Its All Gone Pete Tong

Imagine 'Spinal Tap' meets 'Kevin & Perry Go Large' and you have pretty much summed up this mess of a film.

And it starts so well, interviewing legit DJs and dance music moguls about the imaginary legend DJ Frankie Wilde. It sets to be a truly ingenious spoof on the age of electronic music, but then it starts downhill from there. The editing is so fucked up, that half the film is cut to look like a mockumentary style film with talking heads, and the rest is shot like your regular cinema comedy flick with panning angles, and camera work that has clearly been decided to fit the piece not vice versa. It also doesn't help that the film is completely scripted (and not very well at that) so the whole effect looks very false.

The film's redeeming second half in which it battles with Wilde's deafness sensitively and thought provokingly almost drags the film up to a decent standard, with a decent film twist and a feel good feeling, but you can't help feeling that it could have been done a lot better, and not as rushed.

However, the film does have some good features, for instance Paul Kayes is brillant as Frankie, becoming the character instantly, and rattling off a number of great one liners like a pro. He is probably the films strongest point.

It also has decided not to just opt for the sterotypical Ibiza feel of partying, drugs and Britishness, although it shows this side it also shows a beautiful, poignant and Spanish side to the devil's isle.

I liked this film because of my love of dance music and Ibiza, however as a film standing up on its own it inevitably fails and probably has a future destined to the bargain bin section of HMV.

Not a film review, but film-related...I had an odd dream last night. I was interviewing Steve Buscemi for my chat show (it had no name), and I brought up the subject of him being one of those guys who's had a number of small but memorable roles that make people think he's in everything. In response to this, he told me the story of the 2009 Academy awards, and more specifically the story of how, at this award show, he picked up every single award on offer. Best actor, best supporting actress, best director, the various special effects awards, everything. What made this better was this: Not only was he not nominated for any of these awards, he wasn't actually in any of the films in question. He got Best Actress for Titanic, a clutch of awards for Lord of the Rings, and so it went on, with Steve picking up awards for every recent Oscars-dominating movie of the past ten years or so. He was just about to give an acceptance speech for one of them in his signature twitchy manner when I woke up. I felt the need to post that somewhere, as it's rare for me to remember my dreams.

I watched Barbershop 2 last night. Very, very enjoyable. Ice Cube is probably my favourite actor and I love Cedric too. Excellent scenario, beautifully shot and with good story telling. Loved it.

Body Bags - been catching up on the few John Carpenter things i aint seen. This is a short stort thing that was made for TV, it was meant to be a series but they made 1 and scrapped the plan i think.

JC directs the first two stories, 'Gas Station' is a typical John Carpenter kinda thing, a girl works in a late night garage and goes through a series of cliche like slasher situtuations, it's pretty good and being a short story it feels like you've just watched the segment out of a slasher flick. The second story 'Hair' is fucking weird, and is nothing like anything JC has done before, its about a guy who longs to grow his hair back, he gets an experiment done and get long ass hair which is alive kind of. It's completely fucking strange and actually pretty funny.

The 3rd segment 'Eye' is directed by Tobe Hooper and stars Mark Hamill as a baseball player who get an eye transplant. It feels like your watching a Simpsons tree-house of horror episode only a little bit more gruesome. It's kinda cool, the 30 min. running time is ample. Props to Hamill though, he really gets into the role.

Best thing about it though is John Carpenter's role as the narrator guy who introduces each episode, great!

You've never seen Pulp Fiction or A Clockwork Orange?!? Christ, man.I'm interested to know why Godfather II got 10/10 though, I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the first one. Edited by Vito

According to your website you've watched God knows how many fucking films in the past few years and you've only seen one of those listed above? Considering how big a part of your life movies are I would have thought you'd have more of an appreciation for decent film making.

Goodfellas is on my pile of films besides my tv which I will watch in the next few weeks. I've heard mixed stuff about it so I'm not sure what to expect.

I think I gave the first one 9/10.The reasons I remember liking the second one more:* Develops the Pacino character to perfection, creating a vivid and living character, also nuturing the other characters and relationships so well.* Brillant back story with Deniro telling the story of the Don moving to the US.* More shocking than the first one in terms of events, corruptions and loyalty.* I loved the Cuban backdrop to the middlepart of the film, the communist revolution seemed so poignant and apt.* Even though it had a longer (or same) running time, I felt it made its points quicker and the plot seemed at a better pace.
