Fog Dude Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Feels like we've barely had time to blink since the World Cup finished, and yet it's only a fortnight until the FPL is due to go live again for another season! Although it does feel slightly longer if you refused to acknowledge games held outside of Canada or Mexico. One sign it's time to get on with this is always the reminder to put a Fantasy League squad together. I've already had a warning for an offensive team name (which was admittedly a cheap dirty joke, but contained both the name of my city and my initials to give it two layers of plausible deniability) so I've just made it yet another classic N64 reference like my avatar. Anyway, regulars and returners must doubtlessly know the drill by now. Post here to let me know you're up for it for another season and you can hop in as soon as it starts. To be properly registered, you'll need to have "Dare 2 Disagree" sides assigned to you by the end of September. I've ruthlessly deleted all of last summer's D2D convos from my inbox so there should be plenty of room for PMs. This time, please don't put more than one national team among your three because there are a finite number of international breaks, or more than one club from an obtusely obscure league - try as I might last season, I couldn't find any details of the Cameroonian Third Division. Not gonna go over all the rules again now but for any potential newbies: rather like the card game in The League of Gentlemen, I'm sure you'll pick it up as we go along. There's also an FPL Cup to play for, but the exact format will depend on the number of participants. This is just the registration thread. A new, separate thread will be started in two weeks' time for the main competition itself. Not sure if the imgbox link to how it all ended up last time still works but if not, that's a problem we'll worry about at the end of Week 2. Of the half a dozen people to have posted in here, five have sent fully valid D2D picks with one entrant still outstanding. There's no overlap, so of the eighteen teams picked so far, eleven are from the Home Nations, four hail from elsewhere in Europe and three are based further afield. Three are national teams and fifteen are club sides, of whom nine play in their country's top flight. So far, seventeen 16 are men's teams with only one two being female, and one of those is a third choice so unlikely to get used. Alongside me that means we've got more than an enough for a minimum viable product this season, but seven would be an awkward figure to work with for the FPL Cup so let's try to get at least one more person taking part. To the person who misunderstood my "Cameroonian Third Division" comment: I wasn't complaining about the lack of a note saying what league a team plays in, it's more that it was too obscure a division to find fixtures and results for online. Not gonna name and shame but somebody tried to put in brackets where their second and third choices play, and managed to get the wrong tier for the former and misspell the country for the latter! Edited to add: on the technical side, felt like I was jumping the gun a bit last week because three of the first four weeks still had kick-off times to be confirmed but they're all set now so we should be good to go for the opening month as long as I can find yet another new place to store images of the table updates.
