But also taking a match between two of the best wrestlers of that era (and the precursor to what many consider the greatest match ever) is like arguing because Godfather is superlative old films are all better I think shows as a whole are often more exciting because of the style that is practiced. People still invest in the characters and sure there are times wrestlers could tone it down a bit but I'm bang up for all the exciting wrestling really * yes the Godfather is now an old film Quote

There's lots of people who like old stuff and like to kvetch about the modern version of it It only seems to be wrestling where people try and argue it should return to the old version. You can be like my uncle who doesn't think any good music was written after 1920 but never tries to argue neoclassical musicians need to return to the baroque era Quote

I mean look, you clearly don't like what the Will Ospreys and Kenny Omegas do, I do. That's fine, the world is a veritable cornocopia of different delights and we get to experience the ones that work for us. I just find people who act like there's only one good form of wrestling and want everyone to do that a bit irksome. Especially as they have a tendency to try and shame people for liking what they like. So I'm responding in kind. You think what i like resemble crossfit, I think what you like mostly resembles musical statues. The key thing here is nothing we like resembles a real fight. It's fake, and so there are stylistic choices going on. Quote

We've had 25 years of wrestling shoot interviews with people who think wrestling should always be some house style from the early 80s, grab a hold, listen to the people, learn psychology, etc and that's been roundly shit on because it's a fucking nonsense. In 2003, old Triple Humble watched some Harley Race matches, grew a beard and decided all wrestling should be 30 minute epics with him cosplaying Harley and that was fucking terrible an' all. Wrestling should evolve. The bodies are different now, the wrestlers are far, far more athletic on average, older wrestlers are, well, alive for starters, and generally in better condition. The fact that a lot of the guys can perform incredible moves isn't a bad thing. Nor are the really good matches were those moves are used at the right times to absolutely wow fans. No one in this thread, or anywhere outside of an RF Shoot Interview, has suggested a chinlock is preferable to any of this. But, there are things modern wrestlers and production doesn't do well. Punches are atrocious. Standing around waiting for a big move or wriggling into position for a highspot is rubbish. Going from spot to spot in matches that should be a brawl is always crap. Making wrestlers work to cameras instead of filming wrestling matches as the happen is atrocious. Even worse is doing stuff for the cameras in front of a live fucking audience. Refs holding up ladders or barrels or wrestlers laying at ringside clearly watching for their cue to get involved. Horrible stuff. Not everything was better before but some stuff certainly was. One I nearly added yesterday is shoot interviews so I might aswell now. Nothing in wrestling has aged worse. You'd have to have a brain the size of a pin prick to enjoy daft old cunts telling lies, glorifying sexual assaults and shitting on everything that isn't their own boring work from years ago. Quote
