Paid Members Carbomb Posted April 25 Paid Members Posted April 25 "Professional Fight League" sounds fine to me. Fits in with the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, MLS aesthetic. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted April 25 Paid Members Posted April 25 I'm at the point where I just want them to call it MMA. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted May 9 Author Paid Members Posted May 9 Typical. We get to a week before the show and we’ve lost a fight. Muhammad Mokaev is out of the Adriano Moraes fight due to Visa issues. Really disappointing. That was one of the best fights on the card for me. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted May 9 Paid Members Posted May 9 Wonder if it is a genuine Visa issue? Saw Mokaev lobbying to step in for the UFC a couple of days ago. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted May 9 Paid Members Posted May 9 This is how the card looks now. It still has my interest. The undercard is not in Netflix, should get that on Youtube over here. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted May 13 Author Paid Members Posted May 13 (edited) Finally got around to updating the opening post with the new fight for Moraes and stuff. Notice they’ve switched Diaz vs Perry to co-main now with Ngannou vs Lins third from top. It was the other way around when the card was first announced. Looking forward to this but there doesn’t seem to be as much buzz as there probably should be considering it’s Ronda Rousey’s return fight after a decade away. But I don’t think Ronda’s helped matters there by constantly banging on about her gripes with the UFC. I get that there isn’t any bad blood between her and Carano but Ronda’s basically spent the entire run up to this fight building up her against Hunter Campbell and the UFC instead of her against Carano and just promoting it on the strength of it being her big return. She’s also already said this is it for her and she’s not gonna fight again after this. One and done. So that’s probably killed a lot of interest in it for many. It’s a fun card on the whole though. People can criticise all they want but it’s not a card you’re gonna skip is it? Edited May 13 by wandshogun09 Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted May 13 Paid Members Posted May 13 Promotion seems to be ramping up a fair bit now its fight week, lots of stuff over on youtube, Countdowns, Face Offs etc. I really hope its a success and it leads to more cards, apparently the plan is to run 3-4 shows a year off the jump but its all dependent on how well Saturday night does. Dai Posted May 13 Posted May 13 As a novelty, it is a very interesting fight. Can definitely see Ronda doing the rematch of this if its a well received bout. As for Ebbs point saying the plan is for them to run 3-4 shows a year. But with who? After one or two freak shows, there's nothing out there at all, and it just becomes the PFL. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted May 14 Author Paid Members Posted May 14 Yeah there’s promotion but there still doesn’t seem to be a lot of genuine excitement for it considering we’re two days away now. Hopefully it does well and there’s more MMA on Netflix but like @Dai says, who that would involve I don’t know. If Ronda was sticking around then there was potential for the Holm rematch or even finally getting that Cyborg fight on. Without her, I’m not sure how arsed Netflix are gonna be. There’s Ngannou but he needs dance partners. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted May 15 Paid Members Posted May 15 Yeah I feel you on the lack of any kind of "heat" between Ronda and Gina, it's all very friendly, but at least they're not forcing it. I've followed along all week and i'm all in on this. The presser last night made it feel like a big show, how refreshing too to have every fighter up there and have a chance to say and show something (except Philipe Lins, poor fucker). It made it feel like every fight on the card was worth your attention. Also refreshing to hear questions from media members that weren't the same acredited 4-5 who seem to be at every UFC press conference. Quite excited. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted May 15 Author Paid Members Posted May 15 Yeah, even if it ends up being a one-off or just a couple of shows like Affliction, it’s something a bit fresh at least. Anyone see Ronda on the pads though from the open workout? Christ. She somehow looks even worse than those shadowboxing gifs everyone loves to post. I suspect she wins by armbar but if Gina can keep it standing for more than a minute this could get bad for Ronda and fast. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted May 15 Paid Members Posted May 15 (edited) I'm shocked Ronda hit pads in front of cameras again at all after being mocked about it ever since she left the sport. Predictions... I think Ronda wins by arm bar in round 1, maybe in under 2 minutes. I've only just realised both Diaz/Perry and Ngannou/Lins are also 5 rounders so that's changed my thoughts. I think Diaz may get it done late, if it was 3 rounds I would have picked Perry. Diaz 4 or 5. Ngannou in a round is the obvious play, but he's been out so long who knows? I'd like to see it go round or two. Ngannou TKO round 2. Edited May 15 by Egg Shen Quote
Dai Posted May 15 Posted May 15 (edited) Carano is in her mid 40s and hasn't fought in nearly 17 years. Don't think any other fighter in history can come close to that by comparison. She should be getting smashed within a round. Francis is a 1/12 favourite, which may be the lowest odds I've ever seen. Would be hilarious if it goes into R2 and he gasses Also going for Diaz decision Edited May 15 by Dai Quote

Odds are lopsided across the whole card, I think there'll be a few big upsets though.  Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted May 15 Paid Members Posted May 15 Quite looking forward to this. Between the stars features and the promotional style, it’s a real throw back to when I loved MMA. The fights probably won’t deliver, and there’ll be an air of tragedy afterwards, but it’s nice to be excited and know the characters and stories involved. Wild how different this feels to modern-day UFC. A million faceless fighters fighting for a million interim titles. A show every week, none of which feel worth tuning in for. The only Champion I can name is Strickland, and it’s for all the wrong reasons. Conor McGregor must surely be sending the feelers out to MVP and Netflix. Not that I want to ever see that washed rapist again, but this is the perfect environment for him in 2026. Quote
