Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 24 Author Paid Members Posted January 24 Boys, we’re nearly there. Just a few hours. Been a while since I did one of these posts but here’s the sexy graphics with the fight card, start times and weigh in face-offs for the main card fights. And whatever this was from Arnold Allen casting a spell or something on Jean Silva… What the fuck? 🤣 He somehow managed to out-weird the weirdo and I don’t think Mean Jean knew how to react. All he could do in response was bark like he always does. Honestly might be looking forward to this fight more than the main event. Don’t know what to expect. Quote
Kfogg1991 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 They've seemingly dealt with losing the smotherman fight on the fight pass prelims by starting half ten now ....makes sense......but they are starting the main prelims at half 12 now meaning the move of times is fucking pointless?!!! And the main card starts at half two now This new paramount era is going fantastic Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 24 Author Paid Members Posted January 24 One thing I hadn’t thought about regarding the Paramount move but I heard Luke Thomas mention it the other day, we’re almost definitely gonna get absolutely battered by ads during shows from now on. So prepare yourselves for that. The incessant ad breaks during Fight Nights made watching them live unbearable (not that I stay up for them much anyway these days), but at least the PPVs were relatively uninterrupted. Well them days are gone. With the move away from PPV, I’m wondering how it’s gonna affect the numbered shows now. Of course, Paramount paid billions for this shit, they’re gonna want to make as much revenue back as possible. And a shitload of ad breaks is an easy way to do that. Can see them not even showing fighter walkouts so they can cram more ads in. Maybe they’ll just show the headliners entrances. We’ll see how it goes. But I’m half dreading it. I didn’t watch the Zuffa Boxing debut show last night but I was scrolling Twitter at various points and saw a lot of stuff from people watching it that Paramount were cutting to breaks all over the shop and coming back halfway through a round and stuff. I hope there’s none of that with the UFC shows going forward because that shit will make it almost unwatchable for me. Would especially be a piss take if they butcher tonight’s show for us on the TNT feed considering it is still actually a PPV in the UK. Glass half full etc. On the positive side, I wonder if there’ll be any changes to the look and presentation of the shows now they’re on Paramount. I’m not expecting much but a fresh lick of paint production-wise wouldn’t hurt. They’ve had the same graphics, music and overall look to the cards forever now. Beginning a new era, you’d think they wouldn’t want it to look and feel identical to the ESPN days but what do I know? From what I can tell the UFC do seem to do their own production and ultimately have final say on how their stuff is presented so, given how set in his ways and disinterested Dana is now, they’ll probably change absolutely sod all. I’m tired of the whole debate myself. As much as I’d like to see them all get more, the fighters as a whole never seem to wanna take a stand when it matters. There’s only so much fans and media can do to put pressure on the UFC. If the fighters themselves don’t wanna collectively fight for more, what’s the point? Gaethje’s right in what he’s saying though. It all stems from Cormier recently claiming that the new Paramount deal means fighters are getting paid more. Gaethje came right out and said Cormier is chatting shite and that, as the main event of the first Paramount card, he’s not getting a penny more than he was before. Gaethje called him out on it to his face and Cormier was trying to laugh it off and looking awkward as fuck. I was a huge fan of DC as a fighter but he’s nothing more than a company shill at this point. Despite Dana being very open about letting the fighters say whatever they want, i'm pretty certain this got ironed out before the press conference because Gaethje shut it down when questioned about it. Dana himself was interviewed after Gaethje's initial comments and said they'd attempted to contact Gaethje to regnegotiate his contract recently and that Gaethje never responded to them to do so, which is a bit mental. NeverYield Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Cormier seems to have become the Johnny Nelson of the UFC. Quote

Yeah saw that he apparently “offered Gaethje more money and he never responded”, complete bollocks. Like you say, “offered more money” likely means they wanted to renegotiate or extend his contract. And if that’s the case I totally get why Gaethje never got back to them yet. He’s probably wanting to hold off on renegotiating until after this Paddy fight. If he wins the interim belt tonight, he’s in a better position to negotiate than he is now. Obviously he could lose as well but that’s the gamble. And if he does lose tonight, I reckon he’ll retire anyway. So I don’t think he cares about a ‘bargaining position’ if he loses. He’ll just retire. I think that’s what’s going on anyway. Dana trying to spin it as Gaethje just blanked an offer of more money is disingenuous. Edit - a step in the right direction regarding bonuses… Edited January 24 by wandshogun09 Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 24 Author Paid Members Posted January 24 (edited) The Michael Johnson vs Alexander Hernandez fight has been binned last minute. Been seeing stuff all week about suspicious movement on the betting lines so maybe there’s something fishy going on. Edit - might not be dodgy after all. Read a few times now that Hernandez suffered a hand injury and the info was leaked to a bettor. So not a scandal in the way we saw recently but it would explain late bets coming in on Johnson. Edited January 24 by wandshogun09 Quote
Dai Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Does that mean it was actually only cancelled then because the injury was leaked, which lead to the bets, which lead to them looking into the fight more? Crazy chain of events if that's the case, and if it didn't leak then he would be fighting with a messed up hand. Looking foward to this event too. Hopefully Lewis and Rose don't stink up the place too much, because it should be a great main card otherwise. Quote
jimufctna24 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 (edited) It's possible that information regarding the injury was leaked by someone on the inside of Hernandez''s camp. See here - Sources: Suspended MMA coach James Krause worked with offshore sportsbook - ESPN The most relevant parts: Quote According to sources who spoke to ESPN on condition of anonymity, Krause was an agent for Costa Rica-based online sportsbook ABCBetting.ag. Bettors who said they wagered with Krause told ESPN he provided them with a line of credit and login information. They placed their wagers on the site and paid Krause directly, they said. One source who bet with Krause told ESPN that money was exchanged using Venmo or PayPal. Quote Last March, Krause launched a subscription service featuring his betting tips called the 1% Club on social media platform Discord. He told the podcast "The MMA Hour" in August that the Discord had about 2,000 subscribers, some of whom paid as much as $2,000 a month. Active members of the 1% Club included a self-proclaimed professional bettor known as "Shay" and several UFC fighters, including Molina, a 25-year-old UFC flyweight. (Jim: Molina was caught betting on a teammate's fight with a suspicious betting line, the same fight that resulted in Krause being rumbled for not disclosing his fighter's injury, join the dots) Hernandez would/could also be in the shit for not disclosing the injury. Dai Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Gaethje does it again. What a fight! Absolutely outstanding fight, and saved the main card. Paddy looked good to be fair, and Im sure the social media is talking alot about the eye poke. Should it have been a point deduction? My memory is sketchy, but hadnt he already been warned about the fingers by this point? Gaethje still would have won, but it did seem like quite a nasty poke, and maybe he wouldnt have won that round if the eye poke didnt happen? 4-1 becomes 3-2 if Paddy wins the round, and then it becomes 2-2 if theres a point deduction. Great fight though, and why we still watch. Paddy not switching to Plan B (takedowns) when he wasnt dominating through Plan A (standup) seems a bit baffling though. Had to switch up his gameplan in R3, I thought. The rest of the main card was....there. Cant remember anything about it already, other than Lewis looking abysmal, and giving up and not even defending when he went to the ground. OMalleys win didnt get the appetite going for another title match at all. Watched the prelims and dont remember anything of note from them as well. Gautier's hype should be considerably less after that performance, which may be a good thing. The Figgy match was OK for what it was, I guess. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 26 Paid Members Posted January 26 I see that piece of shit Hokit won. Caught some of the highlights of Pimblett/Gaethje. Sadly, I think this is one of those losses that raises his stock - he'll probably still get a few more title shots in future. Just got to hope that, LW being what it is, the matchmakers will soon run out of ways to protect Pimblett. I know Gaethje is no can or gimme, but I really was hoping he'd iron him out. Hoping that Topuria obliterates him in a non-title return match. Quote
jimufctna24 Posted January 26 Posted January 26 From what I've seen (highlights) and read, Pimblett's prior strengths and weaknesses were mostly on full display - decent knees/kicks, lack of takedowns, very hittable in exchanges, etc. However, what Pimblett seemed to prove in this fight, which wasn't a given before it due to favourable matchmaking, is that he genuinely has a great chin and durability. Quote
NeverYield Posted January 26 Posted January 26 100% great chin & durability but lots to work on as well Personally (and maybe I was watching from too much of a boxing stand point) i didnt think too much of his striking Always like Gaethje, pure fan friendly fighter. Quote
