You'll be pleased to know I went to see it anyway because of the heavy Ralph Fiennes stuff in the promo and it was the right decision. If the first was a 3/5 for me, the sequel was a 5/5.

I only saw 28 Days Later for the first time last year, and thought it was great, an incredibly tense affair and it made me strangely nostalgic.

Weeks was absolutely shit, had far too much Jeremy Renner for a start and not even Rose Byrne could save it.

Years was alright, but fell off a cliff big time after he takes his Mum over, and the films structure and tonal shifts were just too off putting.

From everything I've read on the latest one, sounds like I wouldn't enjoy it, but when has that ever stopped me.

We saw Bone Temple at the weekend and much preferred it to last year’s film. There were definitely some gore scenes where I had to look away and still felt a bit ill, but overall thought it was excellent. It does some interesting and unexpected things, in a good way. Ralph Fiennes is superb.

And the ‘Number of the Beast’ sequence made me want to applaud in the cinema. Absolutely mad and I loved it.

The ending made me excited for what comes next rather than the “what was that??” of Years. And I liked that (intentionally or not) there are quite a few laughs in this one despite the grim subject matter.

Agreed. Especially on Taylor-Johnson, one of the worst actors consistently employed in high profile films around. He's absolutely never good.

I thought Bone Temple was alright. All the Fiennes/Alpha stuff was really good while the Jimmy cult stuff felt fairly weak and under developed. I don't really rate Alex Garland very much as a writer - he has good ideas but rarely knows how to flesh them out.
