Yeah, Lee Butler is who I was thinking of. Never met the guy, I only got invited to work a few GPW shows after it transferred to new ownership but remember talk at FutureShock in its early days about conflict between Alex and Lee. We're talking 20 years ago so none of the memories are clear lol

As far as I remember, Lee Butler was slagging off Alex calling him a "tranny fucker" (or similar) to various people, Alex heard about it, then Alex saw Lee at a show and was going to slap him around and Lee ran off and left the venue.
 

Not sure what year this was. Maybe like 15 years ago or so.

Didn't Steve Corino or someone who came over here talk about Shane taking them to a gay bar full of transvestites? Either leaning into it or where there's smoke, there's fire.

That's something I'll say for the scene at FutureShock, it was a lot more accepting than any of my other social scenes (college, retail jobs). It had the kind of casual toxic masculine/homophobia stuff you could guess at (not saying we were bastions of progressiveness), but it also seemed pretty accepting of actual queer people. Nights out in places like Canal Street were common and being openly weird or defensive about gay or trans people would have been socially ostracising.

I have very mixed feelings about Alex but introducing me to that community and making sure I didn't fell down the weird alt right/UKIP pipeline is something that shaped my life for the better.

Sounds like collateral kindness to me Jesse. Someone once told me that Alex would sell his granny if he thought it would make him a few quid, and they should know, they were the ones that bought her. That's not to be confused with selling for his granny, we all know he wouldn't do that.

Oh yeah, wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him (and I'm very weak) just one of the fonder memories I have of the man and the scene at the time

I did some asking around of people I know from that corner of the world, and I was told it was due to Butler keeping the money for tickets being sold, and also Butler impersonating police officers. I don't know how much of that is true.

I liked Lee Butler nearly broke my hand on a wrist lock when I first met him but got to know him a little bit he had a good sense of humor if I recall

I was very skinny back then but yeah he was a chubby lad have to say I liked him I think I earned his respect.
