Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted August 1 Paid Members Posted August 1 Anyone catch any of last night’s New York show? Nothing earth shattering but wasn’t bad from what I saw of it. Usman Nurmagomedov had just about the perfect result in the main event, stopping Archie Colgan in the first round. Finishing sequence started with a question mark kick of all things! Last fight on his contract and he goes and does that. I can’t say I was overly familiar with Colgan but I knew he had a wrestling background and he was 13-0 going in. Not bad at all from Usman. From what I read he didn’t sign a new deal going into this fight either so he’s a free agent as of today. Timing couldn’t really have fell better for him with the PFL/MVP merger going down this week. He’s in a great position now to just sit back and take offers from MVP and the UFC, or maybe even Coker gets the cheque book out for this new venture he’s supposed to be starting up. Money-wise I’d imagine MVP will give him the best deal, and they should do everything they can to keep him. He’s not a huge ‘star’ or anything but they can’t afford to let any more of these legit, in prime fighters like this go. My initial feeling was he’ll probably re-sign with PFL/MVP but I saw him talking to the media after the show and he was critical of Jake, who he called “just a YouTube guy”, for disrespecting Justin Gaethje post-fight. MVP will have to make their offer but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Usman in the UFC next. Money aside, there’s not much out there for him in the way of interesting fights now. In the UFC there are a bunch of them and they’re all fresh fights as well. Would be shit for MVP to lose him but we’ll see how it all plays out. Thought Dakota Ditcheva looked decent in the co-main. Already seen some criticism that she didn’t get the finish but, to be fair, she’d been out a whole year before this. The commentators kept talking Kielholtz up as some huge test but she’s 37 years old, was 9-5 coming in and didn’t really have any standout wins. She does have a fair bit of Kickboxing experience as well though so I guess there’s that. Regardless, I don’t think it’s a bad thing for Ditcheva to get three rounds of cage time in the bank coming off that year layoff. She literally just turned 28 a week ago, it’s not the end of the world is it? Reading that they’re looking at Ditcheva vs Liz Carmouche next. Mad that Carmouche is still going really and looking at her record, she hasn’t stopped, there’s no big gaps in activity since her UFC days. She’s 42 years old and on a four fight winning streak as well. Fair play. Mad that they didn’t even give Dakota a post-fight interview. Arguably their most promising potential star and she gets no mic time? Guess they thought they were up against it time-wise and just wanted to get the main event started. One thing I will say though, that I really don’t like, is Jake Paul’s big shite haircut having, massive chinned mug being all over the show. Seriously, it felt like you couldn’t escape him. He sounded half drunk every time he spoke as well, which didn’t help. I get he’s the face of the promotion now and I fully expected him to be there and appear on the show in some capacity. Fine. But does he have to shoehorn himself into nearly every part of the show and hijack post-fight interviews and stuff as well? At least two of the fighter’s post-fight interviews were taken over by him, including Usman’s in the main event. Jake kept going “You guys can boo me all you want, it’s funny to me, but this is his moment”, pointing at the fighter. Well if it’s their moment and it’s about them, how about you get the fuck out of there? The New York crowd was having none of his shite either. Booing every time he was on camera, booing every time he was on the mic, loud “Fuck Jake Paul” chants at various points of the night. I do think the MVP merger is ultimately a good thing for PFL but hopefully they take all this on board and he’s not such an inescapable presence on the shows going forward. He doesn’t need to be on camera every seven minutes, for fuck’s sake. There was nothing I’d say was absolutely must see but the full event was streamed on PFL’s YouTube if anyone’s interested. The Ditcheva fight is around 3:25:00 in and obviously Usman’s fight is after that. Quote

Simply put, any fighter serious about their career knows they have to have a run in the UFC, whether it's sooner or later. Yes, Dana White is an unmitigated shit of a man, the promotional side of the UFC has been lacklustre for years, and they don't pay the best money that a fighter could get, but their market presence and the sheer collection of talent they have means you can't afford not to go there ever. A quick swatch of his Wiki says Usman's 28, and fighting at Lightweight. It's probably about time for him to move, given how comparatively infrequently he's fought in recent years. He can probably negotiate a really good contract as an undefeated member of the Nurmagomedov dynasty. Quote

Kfogg1991 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 As a whole this massive summer blockbuster run has been a disaster the first two losing there massive main event title fights the first eblen getting a new opponent and interim title 6 or so day before Then the next weekend they lose the main event title fight 2 days before the event Then last night they had a card with phenomenal fights and finishes until the co-main and main event which we're embarrassing and awful. How they have merged with mvp is stunning neither offer the other to team and yet another name change and rebrand for the pfl how are they still running Quote

The event marks the first card in Dubai since the merger with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), continuing the promise of delivering world class MMA and boxing shows worldwide. I haven't seen any of Bilostenniy's fights, but on paper he doesn't appear to be anything overly special. He lost via decision to Nemkov's stablemate Moldavsky last year, who I don't rate that highly. If the fight is free on YouTube I will probably watch it, but it doesn't really set my pulse racing.
