Bellator's Thursday night MMA run continues with one of the weirder main events of 2020...

B251_1920x1080.jpg?quality=0.85&width=97

Main Card:

Melvin Manheof vs. Corey Anderson

Tyrell Fortune vs. Said Sowma

Austin Vanderford vs. Vinicius De Jesus

Derek Anderson vs. Killys Mota

Prelims:

Georgi Kharakhanyan vs. Bryce Logan

Alex Polizzi vs. Julius Anglickas

Janay Harding vs. Jessy Miele

Sumiko Inaba vs. Jessica Ruiz

Jaylon Bates vs. Joe Supino

Ali Zebian vs. Piankhi Zimmerman

Definitely thinner than the last few Bellator shows, main card should be a decent couple of hours. That main event though...

Man, I don't want to see Manhoef getting ground down and wrestlefucked by Borin' 24/7.

I just dont understand the matchmaking, its as close to a gimme that they can give Anderson for a debut. Manheof is hugely undersized at 205 and despite winning his last 2 fights Anderson is just the worst possible matchup for him. There may be a small portion of the audience who still tunes in for Manheof because they still think he's the the same killer he was 10/15 years ago (that old Mike Tyson comeback effect) but this is just a weird one. Wonder what the odds are?

...that being said, if Manheof somehow lands a shot to put Anderson out i'll probably shit my pants.

The main card is okay. At least Hubbard, Fortune and Mota are all prospects, rather than has-beens.

I actually want Anderson to win the main event, just so Nemkov has someone decent to fight. I don't want him wasting time fighting has-beens.

This is free on Sky Sports Mix later on by the way, for anyone interested.

Like I said before, as a Manhoef fan I loathe this main event but I’ll still have to watch. However unlikely the chances, I’m hoping maybe Big Jan knocked the Fight IQ out of Corey Anderson and he chooses to just stand and trade tonight. With Manhoef’s chin these days that could still end badly for him but his chances obviously go up 50-fold in that kind of fight.

never seen this clip before, but here's a clip of Melvin Manheof taking control of a situation ?

I've set this for record, I do not have high hopes for it at all but if there's a small chance that Corey Anderson gets knocked out I'm going to watch it.

I've also never seen Paige's fella fight before so I am quite interested to see if he is any good. The only time I've seen him compete was on Chael Sonnen's Submission Underground promotion.

Did anyone catch this? Even in a 2 round main event where he completely dominated, Corey still came across like a boring bastard. It was a complete miss match on paper and sadly it was a miss match in reality.

He will probably get a title shot off this performance.

It was a depressingly predictable result. To be fair, Anderson made it look easy and I thought he looked pretty good, so he does deserve some credit. It was a mismatch, but its still Melvin Manhoef staring across at you when youre on youre feet, and he dealt with him easily.

It only took 30 seconds into the first match for me to remember how bad the commentary is. Josh Thompson starts rambling on. Ive had to go back and listen to it again:

"Those of you guys listening at home, we want you guys to listen to the fight....because theres a lot of things you will not be able to hear once the pandemic is done. Theres corners coming in. Theres us commentaring (thats the word he actually said), youll probably be able to hear us. Youll be able to hear the fighters respond. So we need to give you guys a moment to listen to this type of action and you can hear the punches and the thuds landing". Of course as soon as he finishes this nonsense, they all just carry on talking as normal, not leaving a moment of dead air so you can 'hear the thuds land'.

Nemkov is what makes the top-end of Bellator 205lbs division interesting. If it was just Phil Davis and Anderson battling out for the title, few would care. But as it stands, I am very interested in seeing how Nemkov matches up with Anderson, and how he would compare to Davis in a rematch.

Anglickas was the star of this show in my opinion. He has now beaten two of Bellator's undefeated prospects in a row. I don't think he troubles the big 3 at Light Heavyweight, but he's a decent addition to the division.
