As dire as 205lbs is, a rematch between Jones and Gusty is still at the top of my most wanted MMA fights list. I guess Glover and Manuwa could be a future opponents for D.C, dependant on how both fare in their upcoming match-ups. Elsewhere, there isn't much left for Cormier at 205lbs beyond the Jones rematch. The division is at its worst state since I became a fan in 2005. It's not that there isn't talent in the division, the top-end of the weightclass is very good. It's more the lack of viable and exciting match-ups that's the issue. It's an ageing division as well, with Glover, Cormier and Manuwa all pushing 40.

If Jones beats D.C again, I would not be surprised if Cormier gives Heavyweight another bash. The Heavyweight dynamic has changed in recent years. Cormier's sparring partner is no longer dominating the division. Cormier therefore has a higher ceiling in the division, and if he put a few wins together, I'm sure the UFC would jump at the chance to give him a title shot.

DC was all kinds of fun in that post fight interview. Fuck the crowd, Cormier is the man.

Shame to see Rumble go, every fight was an event with that KO power. Manuwa really doesn't have anything to offer DC, there's only really Jones as an option.

I swear people have done a 180 on Cormier. A few years ago he was a bit of a darling with the MMA fanbase. These days he's perceived like Rashad was in late 00's. He's never done or said anything really nasty, but a lot of people have just not taken to him for some reason. I know there was the weigh-in controversy this weekend, but he was getting stick long before that.

I used to dislike Rashad, but looking back, it was probably more to do with him beating some of my favourite fighters at the time (Chuck/Forrest). There was nothing really wrong with him as a person. I slowly realised this, and warmed to him as time went on. With D.C it's different though. I've never had much of an issue with him.

Yeah it's weird. I mean people can like or dislike whoever they want but I really don't get it with Cormier. He seems a really good guy to me.

I was neither here nor there on him really until I watched that Fight Factory documentary series on the AKA gym a few years back. That was shot in his Strikeforce career if I'm remembering it right. He just seemed like such a fun loving big lump of a bloke. Easily the most likeable guy on the show for me. Of all the AKA guys past and present, I've only really warmed to DC and Cain. But Cain is pretty bland personality wise whereas DC just seems like a top man.

The story of his life is touching as well. Him losing his daughter is something that hits home with me and although my circumstance of losing a child was different I can definitely relate to that. Listening to him talk about that on Fight Factory and how open he was about it really made me warm to him and I've rooted for him ever since. Then on a lighter note, the fact he's a huge pro wrestling fan makes him endearing to me. He fucking loves it and he's like a big kid when you see pictures of him at a WWE show or even just talking about it. What else? He's tremendous as a pundit for FOX, big fan of his work there. And I've absolutely loved the few times he's done colour commentary recently. I'm hoping we see much more of that and maybe make it a permanent thing when he retires. There was this as well...

Love the bastard. And all that is before you even get into what he does in the cage. 19-1, and the only loss is to Jones. Outside of Shogun going on an unexpected career resurgence, Mark Hunt winning UFC gold, McGregor KOing Mayweather and Miesha Tate going into porn there's very little in this world involving an MMA fighter that would make me happier than to see Daniel Cormier avenge that loss to Scumbag Jones. In brutal fashion. I'd happily pay for his gluttonous Popeyes chicken celebration myself if that happened.

On a serious note, I think part of the backlash against Cormier might be a guilt by association thing because AKA have never been the most popular camp amongst fans really, have they? This is a camp that had Josh Koscheck as a mainstay for years for fuck's sake. Jon Fitch who bored everyone (bar David) to a state of rigamortis for years on end. Luke Rockhold who's one of the smuggest motherfuckers to ever don UFC gloves. Even the coach Javier Mendez is an overbearing excuse making fat cunt of a man. Plus they're all constantly pulling out of fights which doesn't help. There's also the fact that Cormier started proper moaning like he was Bret Hart turning heel in 1997 because fans were cheering Jones at that press conference. I mean, I can't fathom how anyone could cheer Jon Jones over Daniel Cormier but he was being very whiny about the whole thing for a while. I'm glad he's not only stopped giving a fuck what the haters do, but he's giving them shit back now. Good on him. I'm so glad he's not doing what a lot of fighters do and begging for cheers. Fuck 'em.

This has gone on way too long (said me to no girl ever) so I'll stop now. But yeah, DC is the shit.

I don't like his fight style. In Strikeforce, in the HW tournament, he was great, explosive, mixed his striking with his world class wrestling. His fight with Josh Barnett was a lot of fun. Through most of his UFC run, he seems near allergic to striking, sticking to his opponents like glue and just using clinching and wrestling. I've also noticed he only seems to look for a finish when his opponent doesn't have the tools to defend it (Cummins, Hendo, Rumble). If his opponent knows what they're doing defensively, DC seems content to stay in one spot and chip away until the final horn (Mir, Nelson, Anderson).

Then the weird obsession with Jon Jones.

So yeah, that's why I don't like DC. I got a kick out of his heel promo last night but that's about as positive as I can be on the guy.

The reason why he displayed his striking more was because he was fighting at heavyweight Shane. He was just simply faster than his opponents at that weight. Even in his UFC run at heavyweight barely took Mir or Nelson to the ground. He out struck them both as he's just too quick.

Coming down to light heavyweight was a huge change and he no longer held the speed advantage and had to adapt to the weight.

Regarding your weird obsession comment with Jones, are you kidding me Shane? What do you think he's supposed to do? He's been lined up to fight Jones god knows how many times now and all the media want to do is ask him about Jones. He's carrying the belt that Jones never lost. He's hounded by the media with questions about Jones. The two will forever be linked to one another as they exist in a division where they are leaps ahead of every one else.

Personally, I think Cormier is amazing and Saturday night just proved how incredible he is. The way he just brushed off a head kick that broke his nose just blew my mind. He's a machine.

I actually think he wins the rematch against Jones if Jones fights the way he did against OSP. It's just a shame Cormier probably only has a handful of fights left given his age.

I'm not sure if I see the Weidman thing a bit differently. Obviously it was a legal knee, but in real time (the first time) you could be excused for thinking it was illegal. The ref makes a mistake and calls it illegal, offers 5 minutes break and is then told (against the rules - because video replays aren't allowed) that it was actually legal. The ref has to act within the rules and accept that a mistake has been made, in my opinion. He has to offer 5 minutes and then resume the fight. He'd already told Mousassi that he wasn't taking a point because it was the first offense and not intentional - so no further action required there.

Obviously the fairest call would've been to act on the replay knowledge, end the 5 minutes rest and resume the fight in the position it was stopped in. But I don't think you can just go and change the rules about a replay mid way through a fight.

The fact the doctors stopped it was obviously stupid.

Isn't that how everyone sees it though Chunk? It's widely acknowledged it was a referee blunder and I agree because he stopped the fight initially as he thought it was illegal, he therefore should have honoured that judgement.

In regards to the fight, I actually thought it was fantastic for however long it lasted. Their styles meshed together so well and made me want to see them in a 5 rounder.

That said, I thought Mousasi was close to finishing the fight in that second round (aside from the actual ending). Striking wise I think Mousasi is the best in the entire division and when he started that round with that flurry he had Weidman in trouble.

Mousasi's scrambling was phenomenal too and his ability to get off the ground against a wrestler of the calibre of Weidman was incredible.

Neither can I. For any shortcomings that Cormier has, Jones is a lot worse.

As Wand said, people can like who and what they want. I tend to see D.C's UFC career in a different light.

Exciting fights: Gusty, Rumble x2, Cummins

Duds: Mir, Nelson, Silva

Anomalies: Hendo and Jones.

The latter two are hard to rate. I was engrossed by the Jones fight, but I can't really say that Cormier made it exciting. It was more the importance of the bout that kept me glued to the screen. The Hendo fight was uncomfortable viewing, and I didn't enjoy it in the slightest. However, that was poor matchmaking, and not D.C's fault. The only dud he's had since moving to Light Heavyweight was the fight against Silva, which in his defence was taken at short notice, and was a weird match-up. Overall, his fights tend to deliver more often than not.

I think what turned some people on Cormier is the same thing that had people turning on Rashad. They kept trying to point out what kind of person Jon Jones was, and people just did not want to hear it.

Rashad was still popular, even after knocking out Chuck, but as soon as he started to hint at and suggest that Jon Jones was not this wholesome poster boy he was being portrayed as, especially after he helped catch that robber, people started disliking Rashad. They saw it as sour grapes, as someone being bitter, and just did not want to hear that Jones was anything other than this super nice guy that everyone could get behind. They had their image of Jon Jones and weren’t about to let anyone tell them they were wrong.

With Cormier, I think it was how he handled getting booed over Jon Jones. He complained about it, and whilst he had a valid complaint, people saw it as whining. Cormier also kept trying to explain why he should get cheered over Jones and why people were wrong for cheering Jones. It was as if Cormier felt that if he just argued his case and made his points, people would see his side of things and stop cheering Jones over him. But whilst Cormier made some great points, people took it as being told who they should or should not cheer for, and why they should or should not cheer for them, and reacted accordingly. They made it clear they’ll cheer for who they want to and booed Cormier even more for trying to tell them otherwise.

Possibly, yeah. It just seems that a lot of the focus is on a decision being made once the video replay had been viewed. All I'm saying is that that shouldn't be relevant. The ref has to honour his first decision because he shouldn't be allowed to know what the replay shows.

It's impossible to pin the DC hate on one thing; there are loads of good theories from Rogan to Helwani to folk on here and I think most of them are probably right.

Personally, I think to some, DC came across as a whiny bitch for most of the 1st Jones build. I didn't mind him, but I do remember a number of people on here making that very complaint.

He says Roman Reigns acting like a Don on Raw was one of the main reasons he decided to embrace the hate.
