Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 A pal (a bit of a weirdo, to be fair) of mine told me about it and after initially going "oh can he get me the new Drew Galloway shoot interview on there?" he then told me it was a bit fucking strange, and something I've ran a mile from. Never even heard of such a thing until now. Apparently you download some IP scrambler thing and you can find all sorts of weird shit on there. I'm giving it a miss myself, but has anyone ever tried it or heard about it?
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 I've never been there, but I remember the story of Sad Satan from a while back - very creepy
Paid Members FLips Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 Saw some thing online where a journo had went on to see how long it took to get Child Porn. Not long apparently, plus they were freely selling/trading guns, drugs and god knows what other shit on there. Surprised it's even legal tbh, but apparently governments use it just as much as criminals, for even more devious things, so it's not going anywhere. Undefeated Steak
Yeah, I only went on it for an hour or so to see just how easy it is to order anything you can imagine (it really is). Any type of drug, firearm, assassinations etc - you name it, it's on there on one marketplace or another. The one thing that really stood out was that you could buy brand new iPhones (when the 6 first came out for about £200). They'd obviously come from dodgy means but it was tempting. I didn't order anything from it and didn't look for gore or child images or anything of that nature. I'll post some more tomorrow, I'm typing on my phone and watching MOTD. Paid Members SpursRiot2012 Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 Yeah, it's not hard to access. Just use Tor. Tbh it's all blown out of proportion. You hear all the bullshit about be able to hire assassins and stuff, it's nonsense. There is dodgy stuff there, for instance you can buy a passport and a driving licence, if you've got the money. There are stolen credit card numbers etc you can buy. Fake banknotes. Guns and other weapons. All of this you pay for via Bitcoin. Â As far as the child porn stuff goes, I'm sure it's on there. But you'd have to be looking for it. There is a repository of deep web links you can access and it includes that stuff.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 Only ever heard about it in news articles about bad stuff. Does it even exist at all for any honest reason?
Undefeated Steak
You sure you're not talking about eBay, Riot? There were links to all that stuff clear as day when I was looking. Â Edit: Misread your post, as I mentioned above - I'll post from my laptop tomorrow.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 I've been wondering if any Deep/Dark Web "tourism" goes on. Was toying with the idea of getting Tor to go on there and see what sort of exciting things there were. Then I realised that there was most likely nowhere I could go that would've been remotely interesting unless I had some sort of nefarious purpose in mind. MungoChutney
Fellow in my sister's work was sacked for having Tor on a works computer. The way I view it is I don't understand, given the type of stuff that's reportedly in there, why anyone would want to go on there? Unless you're after something dodgy, what's the point? Paid Members Surf Digby Posted January 13, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 13, 2016 The same reason people used to go to Ogrish or read articles on Terry Richardson. Morbid curiosity.
Undefeated Steak
Unless you're after something dodgy, what's the point? I'll go into more detail tomorrow but there was a site on there called SilkRoad which was an online marketplace for drugs. Loads of people used it, even non-nerdy types. Users would review the drugs purhased from sellers and so it helped cut out the bad stuff, and there were even reports of violence and drug-related crime going down in American cities during SilkRoads' boom. There's a great documentary that I'll link to about this story. I never used it and by all accounts there are hundreds of sites that have cropped up now since SilkRoad got shut down. Â It's also used by people in internet-censored countries, whistleblowers, journalists, and some militaries. It's not all bad, despite the rep it gets. MungoChutney
Yeah, actually googled some stuff on it there. Hadn't thought of the idea of political activists using it to circumvent censorship.
HeavyT
Great way to score drugs.
Refused
Yeah, my old housemate used it for drugs all the time until Royal Mail cottoned on. Â I've had a look before and there's some twisted stuff on there. One site was advertising webcam videos where they had supposedly blackmailed/forced girls to do stuff. Of course, could just be a scam to rip off perverts but its still disturbing.
