France seems much more fucked in this regard. The suburbs are a breeding ground with lots of poor immigrants. Hope when caught they are charged as normal nut jobs and not as terrorists.

It's madness.  I subscribe to Private Eye, which is very similar to Charlie Hebdo, and the idea of gunmen walking into their offices in London and shooting Ian Hislop dead seems insane.

The whole balance between freedom and security is really tested by home-grown, ideological terrorists.  Many of the measures you might adopt to catch or restrict such activities end up curtailing the very sort of freedoms that our society holds dear, and that separate us from fundamentalist states.  It'll be interesting to see what direction France takes on this issue now.

How do you know that yet? All you know is they were shouting Muslim sayings, doesn't necessarily make them terrorists. The Norwegian guy who killed 72 people wasn't charged as a terrorist, and he killed as he thought Norway was being too soft on Muslims. Charge them as criminals, giving them the badge of terrorism glorifies them more than they deserve

What happened yesterday was the very definition of terrorism. Don't see how you can think otherwise.

France have had a load of situations like this in recent days. Only today there appears to be a shooting at a Subway in Paris. Various people getting knocked down by cars on the street like the Glasgow George's Square incident from a few weeks ago too. It's a powderkeg at the moment.

Where's the distinction made between 'terrorists' & 'crazed gunmen'? Is it purely down to how the media decides to report it or is it now dependant on the perpetrators religion? Was the bloke who gunned down that Batman screening in the USA a terrorist? What if he shouted 'Praise Allah' whilst doing it, would that make a difference?

Motive.

To say that what happened yesterday wasn't motivated by religion is bullshit, and you know it.

Terrorism is actions in pursuit of political gains. Killing people over a cartoon is the actions of a fucking loony. Terrorism isn't just what we call non white lunatics shorting and bombing people.
