Paid Members Egg Shen Posted October 25, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted October 25, 2015 Despite the setback the Irish show definitely delivered from a fight perspective.  * Holohan/Smolka like wand. said was probably one of my favorite fights of the year, we rarely see ground exchanges like that and when we do it always feels a bit special. Two guys attacking and countering each other non-stop, lots of fun to watch. It should have got FOTN. Both guys come out of that with raised stock for me, Smolka's an exciting Flyweight who has bigger fish to fry but Holohan is just one of those everyman fighters that it's impossible not to root for. Good on 'em.  * I feel the Norman Parke thing. I can't quite put my finger on it as to why he's unlikable but i sense it too. Fight wise he's not particularly boring either it's just his fights never really spark into life. I have met him in person though and he was sound  * I loved seeing Darren Till get a bit of a reality check in round 3 of his fight. I'm fully on the Till hype train but there was a sense of cockiness early on that i wanted to see get slapped out of him, it happened in round 3 and Dalby should really have finished the fight. If they fight again (and they should), i pick Till all day though.  * Some good stuff down on the prelims, best of which was the performance of Tom Breese. Sometimes you see a performance that really stands out and makes you think you are seeing a future contender, that's the feeling i got here. He destroyed Pendred with ease. I know we all rag on Pendred, but if he has one quality, it's that he makes good fighters look bad, he couldn't do shit to Breese. Tri-Star be making some monsters. Paid Members Supremo Posted October 26, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted October 26, 2015 Everything involving Aisling Daly on the prelims was absolutely spectacular. The crowd singing to her entrance, her great performance, her and the crowd's reaction to the decision announcement, it may have been the feel good moment of the year for UFC programming. Couldn't have been happier for her.
Guy Bifkin
I really enjoyed Tom Breese taking Cathal Pendred apart without so much as breaking a sweat. I know Pendred is the drizzling shits but Breese looks a bit tasty in there.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted October 26, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted October 26, 2015 Yeh, like i said originally, Pendred is bad but he also makes his opponents look bad. He's a bit like Matt Horwich in that sense but Breese just handled him, very impressive.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted October 26, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted October 26, 2015 One thing about Pendred as well, he's shite but he's durable. He's got an odd style where he's probably hard to time with strikes and when he does get hit he can take it. Usually. Breese just fucked him up though. That's what impressed me about it. I thought he looked like he might've rattled Pendred a bit at the weigh in, to be honest. Breese just carried himself like a winner all week. I guess that confidence stems from training at such a high level gym and hanging with world class fighters there. Â I actually like Pendred, he's just terrible to watch as a fighter. He seems a nice enough guy in interviews and when he's been on Beyond The Octagon. I liked him on TUF as well. But he's awful to watch actually fight. Kind of like Phil Davis for me in that respect, although Davis is a way better fighter. I like both guys but I end up rooting against them just because they're dull as fuck in the cage. Ross18
Glad I made the trip. A good night of fights. Although being there it definitely felt that something was missing. Just a big fight main event would have been the cherry on the top. Â Mixed night for the Scots. Unfortunately Elkins just shut down Whiteford down and just smothered him. But another good performance from Stevie Ray. Didn't get the finish but now 3-0 in the UFC after debuting in April. Really hope he can get a step up in competition next. Tom Breese looked fantastic. Glad Pendred didn't lull another fighter into a boring fight and scrap a decision win. Looking forward to what the future holds for him. Enjoyed TIll v Dalby. Didn't know how it was going to go with both being undefeated. Thought something had to give. But obviously didn't factor in a draw scenario! Â Enjoyed the main event. Very good fight. Didn't go the way the crowd wanted it to go. But again they were in good spirits throughout the night and another cracking atmosphere. I'll be back next time. Hopefully for fights at Croke Park. Â Yeah, I don't hate Pendred the same way that many others do either. Best thing about that fight though was Breese emerging as a genuine talent to watch. Really hope they book him on the London card for Feb.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted October 27, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted October 27, 2015 Breese did ask to be on the London card so I think they'll grant his wish. Makes sense anyway. Hopefully he'll get a main card spot. He seems like he's got more about him than a lot of the undercard mob these days. I'd like to see them give him a bit of a step up in opponent on the London main card and see what happens. The way he dealt with Pendred shows he's ready for a tough test. Â Just looking through the list of WW fighters. Â On a random side note, how the hell is Kelvin Gastelum only ranked 15? He's 7-1 in the UFC and has wins over Jake Ellenberger (#14) and Rick Story (#10). Meanwhile, you've got Gunnar Nelson who's 6-1 in the UFC, hasn't beaten anyone in the current top 15 and has a loss to Rick Story, but he's ranked 11. Â Those rankings are really odd in places. He's back at MW now.  I've got no idea how the rankings work mind.

Guy Bifkin
I think while the rankings aren't exactly scientific, they do seem to allow the UFC to hotshot the likes of McGregor to a title shot and give Carlos Condit a crack at Robbie Lawler ahead of Jonny Hendricks. If they were fairer or more transparent it may not necessarily make for more exciting fights or a better product.

The problem with middleweight is that those giant fuckers who can somehow make 185, Rockhold, Romero, Weidman, and Jacare are absolute monsters, and I fear for Gastelum if he can't prove himself now he's back at 170. Same with Hendricks, he will get mauled at 185 if he can't sort out his diet.
