I think show was pretty much the perfect fight night show, i think the winning formula for these shows is to have 1-2 great fights (this show had 1), then have a bunch of short, snappy, violent fights. Add in a fan favourite feel good story on top and you basically have a night where everyone's happy.

...so how about Henderson/Bisping 2?

I give Rothwell an A for effort despite the horrible delivery, not quite sure what he was thinking really. Rothwell was in character all night, even came out to some mental Conan the Barbarian music...shame on Jon Anik for the no-sell!

It was the kind of thing that make fans hate some fighters, but i didn't feel that way about Rothwell. He's clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, there's an almost childlike quality about the big goofy fuck, homeboy can fight though.

Fuck it, im on the Rothwell war-wagon!

This.

If you would have told me 2 years ago, that Arlovski and Rothwell would be in title contention in 2015, I would have laughed at you.

Next up, Berlin.

*Don't forget, this is on PICK TV as well. Saturday 20th from 11pm.

FIGHT PASS MAIN CARD

Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs Jessica Penne - Strawweight Title

Dennis Siver vs Tatsuya Kawajiri

Peter Sobotta vs Steve Kennedy

Nick Hein vs Lukasz Sajewski

FIGHT PASS PRELIMS

Makwan Amirkhani vs Masio Fullen

Mairbek Taisumov vs Alan Patrick

Mike Wilkinson vs Alan Omer

Niklas Backstrom vs Noad Lahat

Scott Askham vs Antonio Dos Santos

Piotr Hallmann vs Magomed Mustafaev

Taylor Lapilus vs Ulka Sasaki

Not the deepest card, even by Fight Pass standards. But there's some stuff worth tuning in for there.

Jedrzejczyk vs Penne could be good. Like Joanna's last few fights, it's another striker vs grappler matchup. To be honest, Jedrzejczyk's striking is so good that I can't even see the strikers in the division wanting to stand with her for long. She's probably going to turn them into grapplers as well. Penne has decent striking but 'decent' isn't going to cut it in a striking match with Double J.

This will be Jedrzejczyk's first defence of her title. She challenged Carla Esparza at UFC 185 in March. It was a fight pretty much everyone not named Esparza or Herrig wanted to see Jedrzejczyk win, but most expected Esparza to smother her with wrestling.

But Jedrzejczyk went out there and put a monumental arse kicking on Esparza. Just obliterated her. Defended every single takedown attempt and smashed her to bits on the feet.

Fuck Ivan Putski. That's Polish Power.

With that win, Jedrzejczyk became the first ever Polish UFC champion and only the third European to win UFC gold (Bas Rutten and Andrei Arlovski were the first two and that's going back a decade-plus).

She's badass. Likeable outside the cage but a monster in it. She's got that dangerous combination of lethal striking and really, really good takedown defence. It's the recipe that the likes of Chuck Liddell and Mirko Cro Cop were so successful, dominant and just plain scary with in their heydays. And looking at the current landscape at 115, she could have a long reign. It's a division full of grapplers whose takedowns she can probably defend, and strikers she's better than. The only one I can see giving her grief is Claudia Gadelha. Hopefully that rematch will come soonish.

Siver vs Kawajiri is a fun fight. The German crowd will be mega into it as well with their hometown boy fighting. Not sure how this one will go. Kawajiri will likely try to grapple and Siver will want to keep it standing. They're both kind of in no mans land at the minute. They're good fighters but they've been around ages and it doesn't really feel like they're going anywhere. They both need to make a statement here to put themselves back into relevancy.

There's really not much else that stands out on this card for me.

Amirkhani is back. If you remember he completely stole the undercard on the Sweden show in January. Won by flying knee in about 8 seconds or something then showed some personality in his post-fight interviews and media appearances. It was a total breath of fresh air, at a time when we're bombarded with forgettable newcomers who come and go, to see a 'some fucker' come in and pull off such a memorable debut. I'll be tracking his fight down on the Sunday.

Scott Askham is from the UK, 12-1 and making his UFC debut.

Can't be arsed to look up the names I've never heard of. Anyone stand out?

So yeah, nothing special but I like the top two fights and these Fight Pass shows are short and sweet anyway and the European cards usually turn out decent.

Most interesting thing about the card is to see how Jedrejczyk carries it. The idea of a tiny Polish lady headlining a UFC card is a bit ludicrous really, but Jedrejczyk has been a bit of a revelation really, hope she pulls it off and the event is a success.

Kawajiri/Siver i'm game for, looking forward to that.

The rest of the card may not jump out but it's packed with European guys worth checking out, Taisumov is a must see fighter and is due a real breakout performance....and of course Akirkhani.

Couple of Brits propping it up too who i always take an interest in. It's Askham's 2nd UFC fight though wand ;)

Is it? Told you I'm struggling to keep up lately.

I don't think the UFC saw Jedrzejczyk coming at all. I think they signed her based on her Muay Thai pedigree but didn't really expect her to become what she's become. If they knew what they had in Jedrzejczyk I think they'd have targeted the Poland debut show for a time when she could fight on there. As it was, they had her challenge for title just a month before they went to Poland. I don't think they expected her to beat Esparza at all or they'd have probably timed it differently.

I love it when someone comes in and fucks plans up like that though. JDS did it at heavyweight when he came in as an unknown and wrecked Werdum. It's not just her fighting either, she's got something in the way she carries herself that just says badass. You can see she's got extreme confidence in herself without it spilling over into cockiness. The way she got in Esparza's face at their weigh in, for example, in hindsight I think Esparza was beaten right there. She never looked up for the fight at all the next night. She walked in looking sedated like how BJ Penn was for the second fight with Frankie Edgar. And Jedrzejczyk well and truly fucked her up.

Im not really holding out much hope for Penne. Obviously she is a talented fighter and a former champion. But there was a noticeable size difference when Jedrzejcyk fought Esparza. Penne has been fighting at Atomweight before coming into the UFC. So she is another small Strawweight. I think this could go the same way as the Esparza fight. I may be completely wrong though.

Mike Wilkinson also pulled out with an injury yesterday too. So think that fight is now off the card.

Shame because he absolutely destroyed Backstorm in Sweden in October so was looking forward to seeing him back in there.

I don't think Penne looks too small for strawweight. I could be wrong but I don't remember thinking she looked particularly small on TUF or in her fight with Randa Markos at the finale. I think it might be the case that she was actually a big atomweight more than a small strawweight.

Regardless, yeah I think she's getting battered here. She's a better striker than Esparza so there's that. She probably won't look quite as lost on the feet as Esparza did. But she's still lightyears behind Jedrzejczyk in the striking. She'll want the fight on the ground for sure. But she's not as strong a takedown artist as Esparza and probably not as strong as Gadelha either. And Jedrzejczyk's takedown defence looked excellent against both of them. Especially the Esparza fight. So I think Penne is going to struggle to get Jedrzejczyk down and get blitzed on the feet. Pretty much like Esparza did but probably not quite so embarrassingly one-sided.

Double J KO within three rounds for me.
