SteelEdge Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 (edited) Just got round to watching NXT from last week. It was pretty great. The Wyatt Family look like proper nutjobs, Paige is the most interesting diva they've had since Kharma, McGillicutty actually looked pretty good in his tag match (he just needs a personality and character now), had forgotten Percy Watson still existed, and the main event was pretty fun (loved the ringside brawl with the NXT roster taking out Reigns and Ambrose) and I'm looking forward to seeing Big E as champ. This and Main Event are the best WWE shows each week, shame that barely anyone knows they exist. PAC's debut next week apparently, looking forward to it. Heard so much about him but only really seen a few Youtube clips. Edited January 14, 2013 by SteelEdge

The Wyatt Family are an awesome unit- who knows if they will bring them up to the main shows with the same gimmick, but it's great fun on NXT.
TheShowOff Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I think they should go back to the Houston Astrodome, and run with Taker challenging Cena for the belt. The atmosphere I imagine for Houston's favourite son going after one last reign while defending the streak against the top star of the last decade would be nuclear. Sod it, Austin as guest ref. I'd jizz in my pants for that one. The only reason Austin should be ref is if both Taker and Cena are leaving the company following the match, and the fans decide to shit on the match. Austin's little reluctant smile is adorable.
Big Jock Knew Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 WWE Shop just tried to charge me $79 (after shipping costs) for CM Punk's yellow GTS t-shirt and beanie hat. Maybe this is God's way of telling me not to walk around like a yellow tit, but surely that is a bit bloody excessive?!
NorthSeaTiger Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I was similar for a GTS long sleeve and pair of gloves. Worked out the shipping and taxes were the same as the actual cost of the items. Fucking scandalous, but they can do it and get away with it..

Austin's little reluctant smile is adorable. Or it will add further sparkle to an already huge match. Like adding a Cell or Shawn Michaels to a HHH/Undertaker match. And because it's Austin, and it's Texas, he'll get a massive reaction. And it adds another dose of intrigue to the match i.e. if he will favour one or the other. And you can do a slice of build around that intrigue on TV in the weeks preceding the show. And it gets Stone Cold to be a part of Mania XXX. There's a few more reasons right there.

The first match between Undertaker and John Cena (since Cena has been a mega star) at a Wrestlemania with Undertaker's streak on the line doesn't need one of wrestling's top 3 biggest stars of all time as a referee. Big difference between Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin, big difference between THE main event and what you can away with with a "secondary" main event (and Cena / Taker would be THE main event). Big difference between (an affectively) first time meeting and two guys who have wrestled countless times in the past. The Undertaker / John Cena Wrestlemania match, if it were to ever happen, has as much chance of it being a viagra on the pole match than it does having Steve Austin in a referee shirt.

Since when has pro wrestling, and especially WrestleMania, ever been about if something "needs" anything, as opposed to being "how can we make this bigger"? I'm not saying Austin will referee the match, I'm sure he won't, it was a completely throwaway line, but your reply about "the only reason" was as daft as Basil Brush. Paid Members neil's bitch Posted January 17, 2013 Paid Members Posted January 17, 2013 I'm still in the mindset that should Taker/Cena happen at WMXXX, Cena needs to turn heel at the end of the match and use the STFU to submit Undertaker, (following some sort of foul play), thus taking the streak. He doesn't "need" the streak, but IMPO doing this would make him one of the biggest heel's of all time.

This is the scenario that I've laid out a few times, if it's true that Cena is hanging them up in a couple of years. Might as well turn him then get some marketable matches lining the new biggest heel in wrestling up against his babyface successors before he leaves, and I can think of no bigger heel turn that cheating to end the streak then telling the fans finally to go fuck themselves, ending the charade of John Cena being booked like top face and acting like a face despite getting roundly booed in a shitload of arenas. The only thing I can't see is Undertaker submitting, it would more likely be a twenty-seven chair shots type deal for me. Probably all a moot point, as I doubt they will actually ever end the streak, they'd probably rather leave it as a legacy unblemished rather than use the payoff, even if ending it could lead to a new (potentially lucrative) direction for the company after Taker finishes. If Taker retires and you can no longer use "the streak" as a selling point for 'Mania, it's not a bankable asset any more, unless you use it to peddle another DVD, which I can't imagine with 20-0 already on the market. That's what makes the proposed heel turn even more amazing for me. To be honest the submission would follow the 27 chair shots, but because nobody really thinks that realistically he would lose at all, (let alone submit), to me every single wrestling fan (from kids to the older fans) would instantly hate him, and it would take Cena to that "level" ,[the real superstar level], that they've tried pushing him to for years. And with massive heel heat, ultimately comes a huge face turn down the line, which is what WWE would want......It'd be a long term deal, but would pay off. See The Rock as an example, floundered as a white-meat baby-face in the early years, let his charisma chine through as a despised top level heel, and turned that into the mega super over face that we see today.

It was daft by design, it was a joke... By your logic, making it Undertaker vs Cena with Austin as a ref for "extra sparkle", why not put them in a cell for a little more jazz. Then throw in a retirement stipulation for some more bells and whistles. In the main event of the biggest show of the year. The fact is, sometimes the "extra sparkle" by design will distract attention from something which is counter productive. By adding unneeded elements into the match you divert attention away from the fact we would have JOHN CENA VS UNDERTAKER which is a huge match on its own. It's like throwing Bruno in as a special ref for Hogan vs Andre. Or Bret Hart randomly being the ref for Cena vs Rock. Not needed.
AshC Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Yeah, Michaels had a good reason to be in the HHH/Undertaker match, which played into the story leading up to and during the bout. Austin obviously doesn't. Unless he's still pissed about the Ministry.
