Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 Better than ECW. Bullet Bob was a regular onscreen character. Â Had the production values of Eldorado and had no many men with tashe's talking like they were extras in Deliverance, but it had its moments. Â He's the demo of it. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 There's quite a lot of SMW stuff on YouTube now compared to when I last looked a few months ago. Â I know fuck all about its history, but am I missing something in that Cornette's lingering hatred of hardcore wrestling was at odds with angles like the one where Kevin Sullivan sliced up Kanemura's arm? Did he book it right the way through its history?
Paid Members JNLister Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 He was booking the whole way through, though I don't think the slicing was quite what he was expecting from the match. Â I don't think he has a hatred of violence as such -- there were plenty of crazy brawls in SMW -- rather a dislike of "hardcore" stuff where its not really in the context of a match and the emphasis is purely on the stunts for shock value rather than the storyline and rivalry of the two wrestlers involved. Â If you can play region 1 discs, this is a great starter point: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Night-Legends-DVD-...1728&sr=1-1 Â It's their biggest ever show (drew 5,000), has some good matches and a crazy Gangstas promo, plus a long hall of fame style piece on East Tennessee wrestling, a 45 minute recap of the Cornette-Armstrong feud, and the DVD has optional commentary by Cornette and Dave Meltzer. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 a 45 minute recap of the Cornette-Armstrong feud I'm sold. Bob Armstrong is the business. Especially in Smokey Mountain. Even now, he's 71, and still wrestles every weekend with the mask on. Believable everyman. Always comes across as a really nice bloke as well. The atmosphere at this years Hall of Fame was great as well. He hushed the crowd, then got them laughing, then told teary stories, then got them laughing again. Everyone seemed to take a listen to him. He really came across great at the HOF. Great storyteller.
bry2j
Heavenly Bodies/Rock n Roll had some real good tag team matches and the crowds were always insane - believed in everything they were watching
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 Cornettes hatred of the hardcore stuff is the same as a lot of veterans. They think it exposes the business and wrestlers are legit hurting themselves instead of 'working'. Â Bret Hart called ECW "wrestling pornography", or that's what Nash/Waltman said. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 Jim Cornette and Bret Hart were the first ones who said weapon shots to the head, dangerous suplexes and high risk stunts were stupid and had no place in wrestling. Out of touch relics they were called at the time. 2011 everyones saying it.
Paid Members JNLister Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 You can get the complete four year run of SMW TV from iOffer for
Moderators PowerButchi Posted September 8, 2011 Moderators Share Posted September 8, 2011 That sounds an amazing deal, and I should have bought that instead of pissing away money on XPW season TV sets which I have no desire to ever watch. I've heard loads of great things about the Paul Orndorff stuff at SMW's genesis, and I really need to get around to seeing it. Â And Hollywood Bob Holly as well, obviously. Snitsky's back acne
From what I have seen on youtube the Gangstas where doing some crazy heel work there  Oh, shit yeah! New Jack, Mustafa and D-Lo nearly got [actually] killed on more than one occassion due to their racist gimmick.  Apparently the Ku Klux Klan was waiting for them outside several venues. Shows either balls or stupidity to play white-hating black people in the bible-belt of America.  Smoky had some great brawls too, like.....  Gangstas v Heavenly Bodies which wound up outside the building and across the street - Gangstas v Rock N Roll Express - The Fantastics v The Heavenly Bodies -  ....and some future WWF stars like Cactus Jack v Chris Candido - http://youtu.be/IQv7Ocn9RDg, The Heavenly Bodies v Lance Storm and Chris Jericho - http://youtu.be/IQv7Ocn9RDg - 'Simply Sensational' Al Snow and Unabomb [Kane] being interviewed by Jim Ross [fuckin' awesome] - - and 'Beauty Tips with Tammy Fytch [aka Sunny] - http://youtu.be/Sv9MYLyc6as

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted September 8, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted September 8, 2011 Kanemura's a fucking pillock. Good job he didn't ask New Jack to do it or he'd have cut his arm clean off and then beat him with the wet end.
