Merzbow
Everyone goes crazy for the FIFA player rating but I'm here trying out Sega Worldwide Soccer 98 only to find that Simon Haworth is Coventry's best rated striker with Darren Huckerby behind even Kyle Lightbourne! I'm surprised it actually has the real players for the club teams though, all the International sides are full of fake names. It's a very good little game for the time though, slower paced than a FIFA and feels maybe more like an ISS of the time.
Big Bully Busick
So in this week's video, I take a trip to sunny Southend where I visit CEX, Base O and Astro City for some retro arcading  The CEX in the hight st is a pretty good one, solid stock, clean and good customer service(I always judge a CEX on the staff as some branches have some right pricks working there). The Retro selection was pretty good too, some nice boxed Nintendo Cardboard in store and a good variety of unboxed stuff for retro handhelds  However the best selection of Retro in Southend belongs to Baseo. I have a friend who lives close by who gave me a heads up on this branch but seeing their stock in person was something else Most Baseo stores I visit have video games for the last two generations and then focus on tech such as phones etc but clearly this franchise owner has a real passion for gaming The Retro stuff was all in fantastic condition too which is rare to see in such abundance  Finally I checked out an Arcade I've been meaning to for some time, Astro City which specialises in retro arcades  12 pound to get in but everything is on freeplay there after It's an odd one as its located upstairs and feels like your heading in to a snooker type club but once inside they have a great selection of stuff to play Will definitely visit again as time was not on my side this day so only stayed for an hour, if that.
Merzbow
There's a new Arcade opening in Walsall town center called The Retro Realm, unlike NQ64 in near by Brum this is a freeplay venue where you pay for 3.5 hours or the entire day. https://www.theretrorealm.co.uk/

That should make all the Street Fighter fans happy.

One of the worst retro arcades I’ve ever been in. Yeah it was £6 for 3 hours, but 10% of the games were off, 50% were broken (Pinballs with no working display, Pinballs with no sound, Broken light guns, broken buttons, flickering displays so bad you couldn’t play them), in fact Radical Bikers that you did play, the throttle wasn’t working when so you could only move on the spot left or right. I was really disappointed, and it was a shame as I’d been planning to go a while as it was so local, but it just felt like a money making venture rather then any care being taken with the machines. Very disappointed.

When i went, there was a few machines out of order but other than that all were working Might have been a case of bad timing? I'll agree with the money making aspect however Just getting in there feels seedy and a bit like a place that shouldn't exist  Personally I'll return and it's a shame that the day ended up like that for you mate I too would have been pissed off

It's very good and goes into a lot of detail. They get a bit obsessed with the speed run challenges towards the end. That stuff is still interesting. Some of the dates are a bit strange. They have a small feature at the end on the winning driver of the 1995 Safari Rally. Covering his return to Kenya in 2024 for this year's Safari Rally. Which hasn't actually happened yet. I suspect they either meant the 2023 event or a smaller promotional event held earlier this year. They didn't really cover any of the sequels. Including Sega Rally 2006 which never made it over to the UK. I still need to track that one down. As it it is rumoured to have the definitive port of the original game included as a bonus. Definitely watch this doc if you have an interest in Sega Rally.
DavidB6937
I need to find time for it but I imagine I'll have to do it in smaller chunks.
Paid Members BigJag Posted Thursday at 11:05 AM Paid Members Share Posted Thursday at 11:05 AM It is a slog if you try and watch it in large chunks. I'd suggest 45minute chunks.
