...and so you should ;) i'm glad Jones is bringing in the numbers, it's good for the UFC/sport.

Exactly

As Anderson is 37 going on 38 and Lesnar wont be around long, having a 24 year old draw is great for the long term.

He's perfect to put on talk shows or ESPN as well, he's young, good looking and speaks well. MMA fans call him fake but he comes across well on shows like Jay Leno as most of the celebrities on these shows are far more fake than he apparently is.

If they do the whole studio thing for the second Fox show, I would be surprised if he isn't in the studio analysing the show.

Are we believing that Jones was the main reason for people buying these cards then, yeah? No one was buying it because it featured other interesting bouts or a "name" opponent?

I'm not. At this point of Jones' career & the sport in general unless you've got a 'star' on the card. The peeps I'd actually class as a drawing MMA star would probably only be a handful of guys..Lesnar, Liddell, Couture, GSP, Ortiz (at his peak). I'm unsure of the PPV selling power of Anderson Silva? I'd say that other factors such as time of year, the overall card (title fights), what other big US sporting events are on, frequency of UFC cards at that time all play as large a part in dictating PPV buys as the inclusion of a particular fighter.

Anderson is 36 and his birthday is in April ;)

Brock at the age of 34 and the athlete he is I dare say has at least 3-4 years of top competition ahead.

I imagine Unified MMA rules but I'd love to see the old Pride rules come back for one night. I reckon it'd screw up lots of people's game plans in fairness, removing elbows & making North/South the most dominant position would be too foreign to the vast majority of the UFC roster.

Forgive me if this is a daft question, but is the UFC Japan show going to be fought under Japanese Rules or the Unified MMA Rules?

Unified rules.

The greatest thing about Pride <despite the soccer kicks> was the yellow card system. Stalling and not trying to advance/finish a fight meant deduction in wage. Hit them where it hurts. Then again the average Jon Fitch fight would make him come home with about $20

It is a daft question. Yes it is fought in Japan, and any other promotion would likely have the Japanese rules, but UFC has used the Unified Rules for several years, on other continents such as UK and Australia, they have no reason to change other than satisfying the needs of niche fans.

I'd love to see the stats on how many 'stand ups' actually occur in Fitch's fights? I think there'd be less than most would expect, he justs get a bad rep from people who don't like watching wrestling.

Exactly. Anyone who knows anything about wrestling knows that what Fitch does is as far from laying on top of someone as it gets. He's constantly moving, constantly looking to improve position and constantly throwing punches and elbows.

There's a reason why he practically never gets stood up in his fights.

Jones past three PPV bouts have drawn very similar numbers:

Jones Vs Jackson (520,000 Buys)

Jones Vs Rua (490,000 Buys)

Jones Vs Machida (480,000 Buys)

Now while some undercard support may have helped attract some more buys, you can't ignore the fact that the last 3 shows that Jones has headlined have drawn better that the UFC shows around them.

Jone's money fight next year of course is with Evans (so lets hope Davis doesn't fuck it up for them). If promoted correctly I could see this show doing about 750-850'000 buys.

Having a named opponet on the undercard does not always help the show. Look at Edgar/Maynard 3, which was supported by Sonnens come back fight and a FW title fight but only shifted 225,000 buys (less than the second fight which did 260,000 buys).
