I'm told his cardio is very good, but i think i'd rather cheer his opponent on over him.

Until he's been tested by a high level wrestler I doubt anyone knows how good his cardio is. It may very well be great, but by the looks of him I wouldn't put my house on it.

Watch out for the UK's Karl Ethrington in this. 7-0 MMA record, all wins coming in the first round, and all under 60 seconds! He's a killer, and a 2nd Dan in Judo.

EDIT: Can't actually see him on the list of fighters for the event. I thought he was debuting for them here, anyone know what happened?

Just checked his Twitter and he says he's fighting at Bellator 87.

What's the UK time for the main card starting? Im at work till 7 for a parents evening tonight, and then I have 2 hour training session, and have to be at work at 8.30 tomorrow morning, but as Babalu is my favorite fighter I am thinking of staying up/waking up to watch this.

yeh, i'll hold off on on Etherington until he faces better opposition, Karlos Vemola was on a similar path when he hit the UFC, just descimating folk in the UK, a few fights later, and he's dropped two weight divisions cause he couldn't handle the big men in the UFC.

Still, it's always exciting when a new 'KO specialist' gets thrown in the mix.

As far as I can tell, the main card starts at 3am so I'm guessing that's bad news for you if you've got to be in work for 8.30 :(

I think it's 3am anyway. I know it starts at 10pm EST in the US and we're usually 5 hours ahead so that would make it 3am here. With the prelims starting at midnight our time.

Someone else might know better but I think that's right. I'm just going off the US start times and converting them on the World Clock.

two more reasons to watch tonight...

:/ I think I will set my alarm and try to get up, with any luck the school I work in will be closed in the morning due to snow. Babalu's fight should hopefully be on fairly quickly as he isn't maineventing. If anyone would be kind enough to send me a link to any streams, would be much appreciated :)

Absolute bastard!

I settle down, click on Spike.com for the prelims. Food ready. Drink ready. Quilt. Dog curled up on my lap.

"Sorry, this video is unavailable from your location"

I'll still be able to watch the main card at least but I'm sick of this shit. It's not enough that Bellator don't bother with TV over here, now they block us from watching their shit online.

EDIT - Wasn't calling you a bastard deathrey. Directed at Bjorn Bastard Rebney or whoever decided region blocking their own fans was a good idea.

Might be Spike's fault in fairness. It is their site. Whoever's fault it is they are a no good lousy bastard.

Nah you haven't missed it deathrey. MMAJunkie must have cocked up their listing because they have Babalu's fight as the opener which is where I got the info from. Oddly they've opened with the FW title fight.

It's on after this Curran vs Pitbull fight so you haven't missed it :)

***Bellator 85 spoilers***

A very strong debut on Spike for Bellator.

Curran vs Pitbull was a great fight. Excellent, close 5 rounds. I felt like Pitbull was getting the best of it for the bulk of the first 3 rounds. I had him 2-1 up pretty comfortably going into the 4th. The 4th was a complete turnaround though, and Curran took over big time. He'd smartly worked the body a lot early on and it paid dividends in the championship rounds. The jab was working well, he was catching Pitbull with some really nice shots flush on the chin and he really went to town with the body shots in the last 2 rounds and it seemed to take a lot out of Pitbull.

Great fight. Pitbull's last stand at the end was wild and for a second I really thought he might land a bomb, but he'd left it too late.

Babalu vs Zayats was disappointing. Babalu looked alright early. It wasn't vintage Babalu or anything and it wasn't that exciting but I thought he was using the right tactics to wear Zayats out and sap the power out of him early on. As soon as he got clipped though it was a matter of time. Babalu's chin is his big downfall and has been for a while.

It's a shame. And as much as I like him, I'd like to see him hang up the gloves. He won't but I don't see what's left for him. He's had a very good career, good record, fought everywhere, wins over the likes of Shogun, Sonnen and Horn. There's nothing left. Zayats might be decent but he seems the type of guy Babalu should have dominated in his prime. Why carry on and keep dropping losses to guys you should be beating?

It was sad listening to the pre-fight video with Babalu talking about his daughters begging him to stop fighting. And his line of "I think I'll die on the mat" was a bit worrying. Why continue?

Great win for Zayats but I can't see him doing that well. This tournament is Mo's for the taking.

Chandler vs Hawn. Fuck, what a performance. I rate Hawn and I thought he'd give Chandler a good test. Chandler mugged him. Total dominance. I was very surprised at how easy he was taking down and slamming an Olympic level Judo practitioner like Hawn. Then he chokes out that Olympic level Judo practitioner. That's fucking impressive.

It's hard to believe Chandler has only been fighting a few years and has only 10 fights. When you watch him fight he looks like a seasoned vet.

That King Mo: Unrivaled thing looks great.

"I looked at my right leg, it was good. Human. I looked at my left leg, it was some zombie shit. Straight up".

I'm looking forward to watching that.

EDIT - Petruzelli got taken out in a round as well. Decent little short fight and a good win for the bloke with Matt Hughes' face.

The King Mo: Unrivaled show was on the stream after Bellator ended. It was really really good. Goes into detail on his signing with Bellator, TNA, his steroid failure last year, going to Holland, his staph infection. You can see Mo is a long time pro wrestling fan when he's talking about the 80s stuff name dropping Flair, Arn Anderson, Skandor Akbar etc. Goes behind the scenes of his TNA debut, Hulk Hogan pops up briefly as a talking head, you see him with Sting backstage. Shows him training at OVW. Track it down.

That was my first exposure to Bellator after simply reading about it for so long, and I was impressed. I have to say, I've long thought UFC missed a trick by being so anti-tournament in modern times, tournaments are always good fun. The fact that Bellator have this ongoing tournament format really hooks my attention.

As for the show itself... I like the fact that they opened with a featherweight title fight. For one thing, opening with a championship fight as the first televised fight on Spike starts things with a bang, and featherweights generally have the exciting style suited to catch the eye of the audience. This fight started slow, but built to great intensity in the 4th and 5th rounds. If this was wrestling, they couldn't have booked the fight better, the fighters and the crowd were at fever pitch in that last 30 seconds. Great effort and I agree with the decision, Curran got 3 out of 5 rounds. Excellent debut fight on Spike.

Zayats got a nice win over a name opponent in Babalu, I'm always partial to the spinning back fist. I agree with Wand that the pre-fight video was sad. I'm a family orientated person, and if I had kids and they didn't want me fighting, I wouldn't be doing it, I couldn't break my daughter's heart with her watching her dad getting beat up. Babalu has had a good career, but if his chin has gone, his career should go with it, no need to take Liddell-esque punishment.

Chandler vs. Hawn was really a showcase of Chandler, I thought it would be a more gritty fight with Hawn's grappling credentials, but Chandler really imposed his will there. Looking forward to seeing Chandler fight again, hopefully there will be shorter intervals between fights next time around. At least now I can go watch the Alvarez/Chandler fight that Wand hooked me up with. :D

Great debut for Bellator on Spike, looking forward to following along with the promotion now. King Mo next week, right? Best part about being on holidays is the ability to watch as much wrestling and MMA as I can get my hands on.
