Van Dammer Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Watched 'Let the right one in' last night. The swedish version. It was all a load of nothing really. Loads of weird kids and it was obvious from the start what was going on witht he girl and her Dad. It was just liek a weird, love story for 12 year olds with random add ons to the story. Having said that, it was OK, just not that great. Uh... I think, to paraphrase my favourite comedian Stewart Lee, it's just not for you. It was enjoyable, ive just seen better.I didnt feel any suspense throughout, I knew what was happening next right from the first major scene. Some scenes felt a little out of the place with the main story, particularly the final scene, why was she in a box?
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 17, 2011 Paid Members Posted January 17, 2011 just had a double bill of two completely different films: 10,000bc - dunno why, but after watching Deep Impact last night i was in the mood for a Roland Emmerich 'spectacular', so i popped out and bought this for 3 nuggets. This film has taken a real slating since it came out, it's just a bog standard type storyline of a boy becoming a man whilst trying to track down and rescue the love of his life. Draws some comparisons to stuff like Apocalypto but nowhere near as violent. It's pure escapism cinema, it was loud and stupid and if you're in the mood for that kind of thing you might enjoy it. The CGI stuff is a bit hit and miss, but the finale on the pyramid's looked fucking spectacular. I'm a sucker for shit like this, i know it was pretty crap but i enjoyed it. Commando - talking about loud and stupid. First time ive seen this in years, for me it's one of the greatest pure action movies ever. Violent, funny, cheesy, OTT and including some of the greatest one liners ever commited to celluloid. It never get's old. They don't make em like this any more.
gary v1 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Le Diner de cons is on the i-player right now. Wanted to see it ever since someone on here recommended it a couple of years back. Very funny with a decent little plot that never leaves one guy's appartment. It was described as a bit Frasier-esque which is probably why I quite fancied it and I'd agree with the comparison. One or two wee things that go wrong escalating into a big farce. Check it out if you have a spare 75 minutes to kill.
Jas Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Saw Cyrus the other day starring John C Reilly, Jonah Hill & Marisa Tomei and I thought it was very funny probably because the movies dark, dry humour appealed to me. It

Harvey Dent Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Just saw Black Swan and was completely blown away. Natalie Portman is nailed on for Best Actress in pretty much every award for my money, its an incredible performance. It's just a brilliant film from start to finish, Aronofsky has said openly its somewhat of a sister piece to The Wrestler and theres a lot of parallel's between the two. Definitely one to see.

I mean i know he cuts his arm off.....so i jsut cant be bothered with it!

Between those 2 and The Kings Speech, it's been an excellent start to the year for film.

Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 20, 2011 Paid Members Posted January 20, 2011 Finally got around to watching Bad Leuitenant (Recent version). I didn't really get it. It was quite good. Cage was outstanding and the gorgeous Eva Mendes was very good too. I just didn't get the point. I'm not big on films without a conclusion. Is there going to be a follow-up? It was never really explained how his injury was caused or his relationship with Mendes. And why wasn't the crucial crack pipe covered in his DNA? The drug addled animal scenes where pretty wacky. I watched it late at night and that Iguana freaked me out. So yeah, well made film, good dialogue, great acting and fantastically shot. Just not really for me.
