shep Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Been a while since I posted a mix. Knocked this up this morning. First time I have used SoundCloud and zshare so fingers crossed the links work.  Recorded on the ones and twos using all original vinyl. I am rusty as hell on the decks so no audio gymnastics, just a whole bunch of bangers. As usual it is encoded at 128 kbps, if you want to hear these tracks sounding richer and deeper get digging for the originals!  SoundCloud link - http://soundcloud.com/dj-shep/dj-shep-hold...al-mixtape-2009 zshare link - http://www.zshare.net/audio/64781612dafc4ddf/  76 Minutes  Rakim - New York (Ya' Out There) Rakim - Been A Long Time KRS ONE - MCs Act Like They Don't Know Royce Da 5'9 - Hip Hop Royce Da 5'9 - Boom Jeru The Damaja - Ya Playing Yaself Gangstarr - Skills Gangstarr - Tonz 'O' Gunz Gangstarr - Mass Appeal Gangstarr - DWYCK Non Phixion - Rock Stars M.O.P. - Ante Up Pharoahe Monch - Simons Says (Skitz Original Music Mix featuring Roots Manuva & Rodney P) London Posse - Money Mad Roots Manuva - Witness (One Hope) Demon Boyz - Lyrical Culture EPMD - Strictly Business Jungle Brothers - Straight Out The Jungle Big Daddy Kane - Ain't No Hard Steppin' Biz Markie - Make The Music With Your Mouth Mantronix - Needle To The Groove Beatie Boys - Intergalactic KRS ONE - Sound Of Da Police Young Black Teenagers - Tap The Bottle Main Source - Looking At The Front Door Naughty By Nature - Hip Hop Hooray House Of Pain - Jump Around (Pete Rock Remix) Pete Rock & C L Smooth - They Reminisce Over You Jurassic 5 - Jayou Boogie Down Productions - You Must Learn (Live From Causus Moutains Remix) Dead Prez - Hip Hop

WildSybianRider Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 sweet! This will defo be getting a download when I'm not in work. Â anyone else (Rockwell, etc.) with hip-hop - or any other - mixtapes should hit them up, always good to get a new listen...
DJ Stevie C Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Have to say very nicely done. Nice choice of tracks and well mixed. Good stuff.
Loki Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Fucking top drawer shep, I'm definitely downloading that. I seem to remember you posted a UK hiphop mix in the old Mixes thread which I still listen to.
Dynamite Duane Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I'll be downloading that for Sunday's train journey up to the big smoke! Â EDIT: Downloaded and listened to some of it but on 2nd listen itunes can't find it Going to try again, gotta have this on the ipod.
Paid Members JLM Posted September 2, 2009 Paid Members Posted September 2, 2009 Forgot to post that I downloaded this t'other day. Nothin but the hits, nothin but the hits, nothin but the muthafuggin hits. Excellent work. Forgot how much I love the beat to "Boom" as well. Hard to get that Craig David remix out of my head when I hear it but Royce absolutely murders that track and it does the trick after a verse or two. Â I know there was a ton of Primo and GangStarr on there but is there any chance of a 100% DJ Premier mix? The man's a genius.
shep Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 I will have a look into doing a Premo mixtape next time I find myself with a free afternoon. In the meantime here is a Rec-One Best Of Premo tape that was doing the rounds a while back - http://www.zshare.net/audio/5799220601ab1ddc/  In the meantime I thought I'd mention one of my other little musical sidelines. I play a fortnightly show of jazz, funk, soul, disco and whatever else floats my boat on an internet radio station I help run. I normally target it towards B-Boys and sample spotters as that is how I first fell in love with all that stuff. This weekend was a little different though, I spent Sunday enjoying a six hour session from Norman Jay to celebrate 50 years of Motown (in the absense of an official Motown 50th Celebration over here - apparently one of their artists passed away and their marketing muscle was directed in that direction instead) and was inspired to turn my show over to Motown classics and the odd out-the-hat rarity -  http://funk.ssradiouk.com/2009/09/13/the-p...-13th-sep-2009/  Marvin Gaye - A Funky Space Reincarnation Eddie Kendricks - Girl You Need A Change Of Mind Eddie Kendricks - He's A Friend Michael Jackson - We're Almost There Tammii Terrell & Marvin Gaye - California Soul Michael Jackson - Dapper Dan Stevie Wonder - Superstition Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke Edwin Starr - War Commodores - Brick House The Undisputed Truth - I'm A Fool For You The Temptations - Cloud Nine Tammii Terrell & Marvin Gaye - Two Can Have A Party Frank Wilson - Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) R. Dean Taylor - There's A Ghost In My House Gladys Knight & The Pips - I Heard It Through The Grapevine Martha Reeves & The Vandellas - Dancing In The Street Diana Ross & The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - The Tears Of A Clown Four Tops - Reach Out I'll Be There Four Tops - I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) Michael Jackson & The Jackson 5 - I Wan't You Back Diana Ross - Love Hangover Diana Ross - The Boss Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way Thelma Houston - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning Teena Marie - Portuguese Love Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out Michael Jackson - We've Got A Good Thing Going  Older, more representative of my normal playlist shows are also archived on the site.   Please note this is a radio show with my dulcets rather than a straight up mix but I would love to know what you guys think. The show can be downloaded as a podcast or using the listen again feature, I am loathe to link directly to the mix as I am trying to build numbers and need the podcast stats. I am also in charge of content on the funk & disco channel on that site so if anyone has the collection and the time to record a weekly/fortnightly show in the privacy of their own home along jazz/funk/soul lines let me know.  Apologies for the shill, I hope this hasn't broken too many rules as this is most definitely a not for profit venture from me and it just a part of my continued evangelical zeal for spreading the word on the music I love.
Paid Members JLM Posted September 15, 2009 Paid Members Posted September 15, 2009 You're providing free downloads of musical goodness and, as you say, you're not looking to make money from these plugs, so I see no reason to move it to classifieds. No one has complained so far anyway... Â Many thanks for that link too, will download it this evening. Â
