shep
Knocked up a quick mixtape last night. Came home from work with the idea of knocking up a mix of political protest songs but, in light of all that has been going on, I found it a little heavy going. Plan B - Something a little cooler for a hot Summer's day or, in this balmy barbecue summer we are currently enjoying, a mix you can close your eyes to, escaping to sunnier climes in your mind. No fancy pants mixing, just some jazzy, soulful goodness. Available to stream or download at http://www.zshare.net/audio/93552428d8cb9f71/ Â Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves The Sunshine Kool & The Gang - Summer Madness Ramsey Lewis And Earth, Wind & Fire - Sun Goddess Leon Ware - Why I Came To California The Jones Girls - Nights Over Egypt Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmc Echoes - Summer Days Victor Feldman - Sunshine Superman Sons And Daughters Of Lite - Let The Sun Shine In Nina Simone - Here Comes The Sun Sly & The Family Stone - Hot Fun In The Summertime Tammi Terrell & Marvin Gaye - California Soul MFSB - Summertime MFSB - Love Is The Message Thelma Houston - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning Nancy Wilson - Sunshine
Loki
Sweeeet! Â Really looking forward to the MFSB tracks - think I've heard Love Is The Message before (it's got a good chord sample in) but not the other one.
Glenryck Pilchards
I have only recently been getting into some old-school hip-hop and I am looking for some recommendations for some more artists from the 80's and early 90's. Acts I have been listening too recently are Grandmaster Flash (White Lines is probably my favourite rap song of all time.) Sugarhill gang, De la Soul Run DMC and NWA. I fins that modern mainstream hip-hop is abysmal, Roots Manuva being the exception he is ace.
WildSybianRider
Public Enemy. Chest and shep will be able to recommend more. But listen to Public Enemy yo. Â Â If by early nineties we can get into Wu territory then there's a shitload of the best ever hip-hop that you're missing out on, too.
Cobra1000
cant beat some Gangstarr of A Tribe Called Quest (although may not be from the generation your looking at)
Loki
I'd try Latryx, Digable Planets, Arrested Development, if you like De La Soul.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted August 11, 2011 Paid Members Share Posted August 11, 2011 I'm not convinced I know what hip-hop is but I stumbled into this thread this morning and downloaded this mix. I thought it was ace, though I did get bored during the long instrumental's. Loki
That's not hip hop, it's rare groove basically. Shep brings the old school goodness. He's the only other person I know who's got a copy of "Sunshine" for starters!
