Torn his pec apparently 🙃 Real shame that, likely to be a few months out when hes got massive momentum at the minute.

Would assume there'll be smoke and mirrors to get round the match tonight, meant to be the main event as well

Nah, he’s not used that in years

Is there a reason people seem to be writing off the idea of Tanahashi winning the belt if Punk's only going to be out for a relatively short time?  It would be pretty easy to have Tanahashi win the belt and then lose the match to Punk when he's back, given I was assuming he'd have been losing to Punk at Forbidden Door anyway.  That's coming from someone with zero knowledge of New Japan or Tanahashi though, so could be there are good reasons why that wouldn't work?  It just feels like the cleanest option if you're just looking for someone to be a placeholder for a few months, if that's really all Punk's expected to be out.

You’ve sort of answered your own question. It does seem as though Punk is only going to be out short term, but even then they haven’t said how long that’s going to be. Even if he’s back by Full Gear, that’s still 4 months away, and I can’t see New Japan giving Tanahashi away for that long, and there’s no way his knees will last if he tried working for both.
Tanahashi is a big name, but it’s a name that appeals to the hardcores, not the casuals (if there even is such a thing anymore)

Plus I would imagine that New Japan would want Tanahashi around for the G1, which starts July 16th and runs to August 18th. AEW would be mental to have their (interim) World Champion disappear for a month, and there’s no way the TNT belt is carrying the show with the way that’s been handled this year

I mean, there really is nothing to be confused about. It’s really simple to understand.

    It’s needlessly convoluted.

    - Why did Moxley leapfrog up the rankings after one win. He’s a face whose going into a match with an unfair advantage over the winner of the Battle Royale. If Mox wins (which he most likely will), he’s beaten a guy whose already had a match. What does that do for Mox?

    - Why does Tanahashi now have to qualify for a match that he already had

    - Just have Mox win the Battle Royale and face Tanahashi at FD. The simplest solution is usually the right one

    Think your confused here.

The battle royal is on Wednesday.

The winner of that battle Royal faces Moxley at FD.

It couldn't have been more clear to be fair.

Why Moxley goes straight to FD, I don't know.

No disrespect, but I believe you’ve got it wrong.

Excalibur said later in the show that Wednesday is the Battle Royale, the winner of that faces Moxley in the main event  with the winner of that match facing Tanahashi at FD for the interim title.

  5. I’ve listened to the first hour or so. Will judge it further down the line once he’s got into his stride a bit, but plus points so far are that Conrad only seems to be the voice of the ads and some other lad is acting as the actual host

Amon Amarth released a new single today (‘Get In The Ring’).

It sounds like… well it sounds like modern Amon Amarth. You’re either going to love their schtick or you’re not.

I do. Very much. And they’re superb live; it’s all dragons and beer and fellas in funny costumes.

Confirmed the new album ‘The Great Heathen Army’ for August 5th as well. Available in various ‘let’s see what tat the fans will buy’ bundles as well as standard formats

14 days!  Arseholes, there's no way I can manage that.  I will have to cherry pick some.  Bloody Amazon, ruining a good idea.

9am - Dr No > break for a pee, need at least 3 mins to urinate (seems to take forever these days, I never thought when I was in my 20s that I’d have to push) > 11:05 - From Russia With Love > 1:15 - Goldfinger, Strawberry Nesquilk, fish cakes > 3:35 - Thunderball > dump? (see how you feel after the fish cakes) > 6:15 - You Only Live Twice, tin of Director’s > 8:20 - Diamonds Are Forever (put the roast on as soon as you see the Moon buggy)

Rinse and repeat for remaining films

When are the stage times for download normaly put out?

It's my first time with more than a day ticket and where there are multiple people I want to see, so I've never needed to try and plan before.

They usually get released in the week leading up to it, so early next week I would imagine.

This Clashfinder (which is based on timings from previous years) might give a rough idea of what they’ll end up being - https://clashfinder.com/m/download2020/?user=0vxdld.ts

  9. Punk & FTR vs Max Caster & Gunn Club announced for tonight.

Are Punk and FTR teaming purely “because Bret Hart”?

Johnny TV Name has an open contract to face “anyone in AEW”. Britt & Hayter vs Toni Storm and Soho also announced

  10. Cancer Bats have just announced some dates for September.

    8th - Oxford, O2 Academy
    9th - Nottingham, Rescue Rooms
10th - Milton Keynes, Crawford Arms
    11th - Birmingham, Mama Roux’s
    12th - Liverpool, Arts Club
    13th - Manchester, Rebellion

  11. When he came in as the Cult Leader from the Swamps, he was totally different from everything else that was around at the time. Once he came up the main roster he could talk up a match better than most and on occasion could have a good to very good match - The Wyatts v The Shield at Elimination Chamber 2014 still stands up as an absolute gem from that era (see also the rematch on Main Event #80).
But, he never got that big win over someone that would elevate him, or he got the win after people had lost interest. He had feud after feud of people beating him in the decisive match, which ultimately didn’t do anything for the victor as every beat Bray Wyatt. He could still string together a rambly promo, but you knew what the result was going, so why should anyone care. He also hung around with Matt Hardy for a bit, copying something that had had its moment nearly two years earlier.

Then he comes back as Mr Rogers with a bunch of vignettes with a lingering dark undertone. Completely different to what he’d been before and and again completely different to everyone else around at the time.
His Fiend debut against Finn Balor didn’t overstay its welcome, but it didn’t answer everything in one go, there was still an element of mystery to him. Did have a split personality? Was he possessed by a demon? All very silly stuff, but it worked in a “it’s wrestling, it’s meant to be a bit daft’ sort of way.

Then he got his big comedy mallet out, and just like that it was dead.

He clearly has a creative mind. Whether that’s just him ripping off his favourite horrors, tinkering them enough to make them look like his own ideas or not is up to you to decide, but he certainly separated himself from the pack for a while.

Do I want him back? That depends- if he can come up with another new persona to rejuvenate the character then maybe, but if all he’s got are Spooky Swamp Preacher and Poundland Pennywise, then no

WWE and The Rock making a coordinated attempt to work not just the dirtsheets but also the TMZs of this world into thinking that Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian were going to host WM27 worked beautifully.

I'd be surprised if there weren't minor tremors caused by millions of people collectively sighing so hard when that woman's legs stepped out of the limo on that Raw!

Made all the better as that would’ve been Kim’s second Wrestlemania, having appeared at WM24.

What year was it that everyone was convinced that Charlie Sheen was having a match with Daniel Bryan after some Guest-GM/Social Media Ambassador bit on RAW

Strong has been in nXt since October 2016, nearly 6 years.

Imagine being in nXt for 6 years.

Wasn’t one of The Ascension in developmental for over a decade?

“Actually managed to get through it in one go” probably isn’t one for the reviews, but it wasn’t as much of a slog as I thought it would be.

The only thing missing from Anarchy in the Arena was for  Natural Born Killaz to kick in after Jericho turned off Wild Thing.

  15. If it’s a work, then it’s on MJF to make it work. I don’t think TK has the ‘wrestling acumen’ (if there is such a thing) to pull something like that off.
If it’s legit, MJF must’ve heard the WWE horror stories, unless Cody has gotten in his ear or put in a good word for him to the higher ups 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Its certainly added some intrigue to tonight’s match, which already had plenty.

People tracking flights out of Vegas and speculating which one he might be on has made some for some amusing conspiracy theories if nothing else

  16. Maybe he’s turning up at WES next week, or “Controlling his narrative”.

But yeah, if it’s a work, potentially fucking people with over with their actual cash isn’t the way to go.

  17. Yeah, New Japan wasn’t what I had in mind. I know they’re obviously going to be featured over the next month, but I just feel like this show needs something for AEW to focus on over the remainder of the year.
I just don’t feel as though 12 matches of “someone wins” is enough, we need something to get our teeth into.
I’ve no idea who a debuting star could be, but thinking back to Moxley turning up at the first DoN, that felt like (for lack of a better term) a moment. This show feels like it needs something like that, and if it’s not a big new debut, it needs to be a big angle.

And it better not be The Fiend, just saying
