  1. Couple of highlights of our recent viewing. Conviction is a really good film based on a true story. It has some flaws as all of these types of film do but I think it does a really good job of picking out the important bits of the story and becomes quite gripping to the point that the culmination of Betty-Anne's fight, despite absolutely no histrionics on screen, is really emotional. I really felt it. Hilary Swank is brilliant carrying it but it has a really strong cast. I've always loved Minnie Driver but she's incredible here. There is one funny bit where Betty-Anne knocks her up at 5 in the morning and it cuts to Minnie Driver's character getting her coffee and looking absolutely sensational. Must have a walk-in wardrobe with a magician in there.

Says a lot about my TV watching history that I recognised the young Betty-Anne from Wizards Of Waverly Place.

Also liked something called I Used to Be Famous. It's pretty far-fetched but a real feel-good film with a bit of heart and a lead who is a knob but remarkably likeable. It's about an ex-Boyband member who's on his arse and meets a young autistic drummer who is seriously talented and sees him as a way back in. Wouldn't comment too much on the portrayal of Autism in the film but it feels like they've tried to go it right. My experience is only of boys and girls we have at our football club and is pretty minimal compared to people on here who live it daily, but it feels like an attempt to show some of the real issues and the dilemma of the Mum wanting to be utterly protective while letting them be the best they can be. Just a quite lovely film with some great locations. The Mum (Eleanor Matsuura) is glorious too, if you're interested.

  2. The video is horrible and looks really bad but there's clearly something that happens just before his leg jerks up. The twitter mob who are suddenly experts on Ice Hockey have already decided the fella is guilty but I think I'll wait for a fair trial and evidence.

Yes, ice hockey is famous for its lack of violence.

That is a fair point but despite those fellas having a scrap every 5 minutes (which is fucking awesome btw), you don't really see them kicking each other in the throat. Either a freak accident or the guy is an absolute nutjob. Which we'll see if he's charged and then found guilty.

I bought that book this year from a charity shop Rick. Even if you don't make the ice cream the cookie recipe is really good.

B&J ice cream base recipe is nice, but I find a prefer a custard-base ice cream. More creamy and luxurious, though ruinously fattening.

When I've seen people making Ice Cream on YouTube, it's normally been with a custard base. There are three different bases in the book and in my memory, one of them was a custard one, but when I dug it out, it turned out they are two different cream bases and one with condensed milk. I'm gonna do a couple of different ones from the book, definitely the cookie dough, which I'll also make the cookies with, before I try something more adventurous.

Out of interest, I spent £1.30 on cream, the chocolate was £1.25, Oreos 89p and 75p worth of Eggs and around 60p worth of sugar. Not sure about the extracts and Milk as quite a small amount of each, relatively, but I'd estimate around 50p for them. So £4.49 for about 1.3l of Ice Cream.

  4. As no one asked, here's the first attempt at making Ice Cream. Recipe from this book that I've had as long as the ice Cream machine, about 2.5 years or so:

Went for this one as I had everything to make it except cream:

    image.thumb.png.a3d70e3cbcd3eb999af3ccb781bebc07.png

Here's it going in to the machine, making a mess and giving a clue as to an all-mighty cock-up:

    image.thumb.png.011a11489ad1de4810117dc7abeb0903.png

And here it is after 15-20 mins or so of whipping:

    image.thumb.png.8eb140edc64a8ef722d0249042e93aaf.png

It was pretty delicious. I've not had much but the kids had a big bowl and said it was "banging". Like yer Mum on Saturday night. Hey, oh.

Anyway, said cock-up. I misread it and instead of adding the milk to the melted chocolate, I put the milk in the cream mix and then added the chocolate on it's own. It kind of worked but all those little specs are bits of chocolate where it didn't amalgamate with the cream properly. Didn't really change the flavour but doesn't look like Chocolate Ice Cream should.

Yeah but we all know Vince won't sell anything so even if he was terminal he'd still act like he wasn't. I actually think he died several months ago and this version of him is just his body with electric currents being run through it to keep it moving.

It's Nathan Lane in his greatest performance since Mousehunt.

I know his Twitter has been mentioned before, but this is another belting find from the archive by Gary Michael Capetta. One  of my favourute announcers ever, but seems like a good dude too.

I've got a ton of nostalgia for The Fink, obviously, and even a bit for Mike McGuirk, but I didn't realise how much GMC's voice had stuck with me over the years. Hearing him announce "Flyinnnnn' Bryinnnnnnn" makes me feel so childlike in a way that I couldn't describe.

  7. Saw someone post that they are "Burning music to CD years old" and someone reply that they are "Recording songs off the radio onto cassette tape years old", which I'm sure most of us qualify for both. Well, I'm now "Bought a chest freezer for the garage" years old. My auntie used to have a spare fridge/freezer in the shed. Always thought it was such an old person thing to do, though it was mainly full of beer which made it cooler (geddit?)

We've been juggling with our freezer for ages. I'm constantly throwing away leftovers because the latest leftovers need fridge space, or defrosting stuff in the vain hope that someone will turn up and be hungry! Finally, done something about it. An exciting prospect is that I bought an ice cream machine during lockdown and it's never been used because I've never had enough freezer space for the bucket thing. Looking to make some ice cream this weekend!

    A cellmate, with any luck.

This cunt isn't doing any time. He'll keep paying off victims, just the price will go up now he's converted shares into hundreds of millions of dollars.

I'd look forward to the day he fucks off this mortal realm except the tributes from the knuckle-draggers who still support his company will make me sick.

    Bottoms (cinema)

Simutaneously an excellent satire of high school comedies and a very funny one in its own right. Just absolutely fucking goes for it with how weird and daft and funny it is and it works. Marshawn Lynch is in it and the best thing in it, too. What?!

    Joy Ride (2023)

Also very funny, and I wish I'd seen it at the cinema. Features the funniest masturbation scene I've seen maybe ever and an actual funny drugs scene, which is a miracle in itself. Ashley Park tho.

Only lasted half of Joy Ride. They were abandoned on the road somewhere when we gave up. Not sure if I just didn't like it because my missus hated it and was moaning throughout. Also really interested in seeing Bottoms so will check both out on your recommendation. No pressure, Dev, it's only a well-earned reputation at stake.

  10. So jealous of chokeout's homegrown chillis. I've never had any luck growing them before. Last year, none of my seeds did anything. This year my initial seedlings did nothing. I planted some more later on and they eventually grew and then I finally got a load of buds (if that's the word) that flowered, some tiny little signs of them becoming chillis and then, boom, the weather turned and they all died off.

Actually three trays I labelled chillis during my planting did grow nicely, turn into plants, I re-potted them, they grew on, and then they budded, flowered and delivered some beautiful, strong, red ... tomatoes. Doh.

  11. Saw a video of him on an awards show with Becky and it's the worst wrestling related thing I've ever seen. If I was still a fan, I'd have died of embarrassment right then and there.

His initial heel run with the Authority was his best solo stuff, in hindsight. It's rose tint because on a week to week basis that Authority stuff was brutal

You're right on both counts. The best I've ever seen from him was absolutely fucking abysmal.

It absolutely could be about Orton. Big risk to take though. And, to circle back to my original point, if this CM Punk chant lark catches on.. they’ve only got themselves to blame.

Why, what's going to happen? Are people going to boycott Raw for a week and only be responsible for several hundred social media interactions in outrage?

    Also lurking periodically.

It's been a tough/emotional year since the breakdown of my marriage and I basically stopped doing everything I used to do. Thankfully, things are now going well for me. Lots of changes.

    Thanks for asking though! ❤️

Sorry to hear that, pal. Glad you are on the up now.

    DECEMBER 2015

    A PERSONAL REPORT

So, I attended the Blackpool NXT show, in the unique atmosphere of the Empress Ballroom (all the other shows were in "small show" configuations of medium sized arenas). Without doubt, this was one of the best times I've had watching live wrestling. It helped that the day was a fun-packed exploration of Blackpool with three buddies (including @jazzygeofferz) - we greatly enjoyed stopping by Coral Island and posing for whimsical photographs in front of "Slots Of Fun" etc. I was in somewhat of a sour mood in the pub by tea time having just watched a Hugo Lloris blunder gift all the points to Newcastle on the telly, but my mate (now boss) cheered me up with an arm round the shoulders and "Come on. Let's go and see Alexa." The crowd were fantastic, virtually the whole roster were over like Rover, especially the American Alpha lads who seemed buoyed by the 2 Unlimited chanting of each of their names, and in the Womens title match the "Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Bayley" singsong was deafening. DJ Otzi would have been proud. There was also a special reaction for William Regal, having grown up in and always been billed as from Blackpool (despite being born in my part of the country). Overall the show was an unmitigated success and though shattered on the way home I was positively fizzing for the next time NXT could make it over here.

We went to the Sheffield Arena show. Have a feeling we really enjoyed it but, my only actual recollections are of the American Alpha song being great and Big Cass missing a big boot, that was still sold, by a distance of about one Yokozuna's arse (1996 Yoko).

  15. Given that we could never see them anyway, why didn't they just unplug and remove them before matches with an announce table spot? Then not remove the cover as Carbomb says.

Or at least have the announcers remove them once the plastic cover comes off. They could waffle about the cost or the danger or how they are going to cope without them.
