Jam jars and a marker pen crew 4 life! 2 legit 2 quit.

I just have mine in the jars they come in. I sometimes see someone who has bought matching spice/herb jars and transferred them all and get a bit wet but then don't bother. I basically like the idea of being one of those super organised tik-tok nutters but I can't be arsed.

Having some issues sourcing replacement labels for a bunch of my mums old Schwartz jars. Plenty to choose from online but actually finding one with all her needs is near impossible - fenugreek, Garam Masala, mace, mixed herbs and mixed spice seem to be mutually exclusive. On top of common ones, obviously, there are about 16-18 she needs. Found one set that had everything on eBay but the sellers sent it to the pickup shop Royal Mail no tracking so looks like it’s lost in a vortex and if it’s not got a collection code by 9th, eBay are going to refund us. Quite a few sets of 342 labels on Amazon but despite the labels coming with an index card none of the sites stocking them even carry a full list or a good quality photo of the list - there’s no point me buying a big pack with everything from Adobo to Coconut Oil if “mixed spice” is too much to ask.

Anyone had similar problems and found a solution?

Examples (review of 612 piece set : “Many labels of obscure items like bucatini and malt powder are there but common spices are missing like oregano , cloves and basil.”

Imagine flogging something claiming to cover every herb and spice (or seemingly tea, coffee, sugar and every other pantry item) that you could ever need and missing things like that. Yes, I need oregano for mama raid.

I bought some little black ones and a chalk pen when I was in the US. I got them from the dollar tree. Also got some little peg ones too that are for clipping on to baskets or plastic storage containers. I haven't used them but they look great when other (capable) people do it!

They were kinda like this. There's millions of them https://www.amazon.co.uk/Chalkboard-Joyoldelf-Waterproof-Blackboard-Removable/dp/B07SX2X1CG/ref=sr_1_6?crid=12D7OJC8D19MW&keywords=blackboard+labels+for+jars&qid=1699274548&sprefix=blackboard+labels%2Caps%2C239&sr=8-6

or to sausage casserole, which is good, but pretty obvious, I guess.

I'd just made a Sausage and onion casserole on Friday with some Pork and Leek sausages we got from the butchers!

There'd have been mash instead of toad in the hole on my list but that all looks tasty as fuck.

We had mash too! And roasties, Carrot & Swede and Cauli. Big Sunday lunch (well, tea).

  4. Got left with tons of sausages at the weekend that couldn't be re-frozen due to our football being off. Had to get cracking to ensure no waste as it's great stuff from our local butcher.

Started with a batch of slow cooker Sausage Ragu. My missus pronounces it r'gu, you can tell she's not from Hull. Might get some argument from @Onyx2 but I've gotta say, ragu/bolognese made with good sausage meat is far tastier than with mince. Texture and flavour just much better.

    image.thumb.png.bf2d22eedd58afe3bfe67159b7c851b6.png

Added breadcrumbs to make a big batch of sausage meatballs. These are incredible with some marinara-style sauce with spaghetti or in baguettes. My missus had some chopped up with scrambled egg and cheese and beans for breakfast too.

Sunday lunch. Toad in the hole, obviously.

    What would you have done?

  5. Saw the fourth episode. Really rough stuff. Doesn't help that I've now done two series of the original and it's so fantastically superior. Even the farcical episodes are miles better than this tosh. Like the tremendous episode where Frasier sets up a date for Daphne but the bloke is gay and thinks he's on a date with Frasier. Or the episode where Daphne is upset about Frasier going in her room which inevitably ends up with everyone, including Eddie, in her room.

The point made about the ensemble cast is so spot on. Scenes with Niles and Roz giving each other stick are a highlight. Niles being infatuated with Daphne is another. They should never get together. It's too funny as it is. Martin is brilliant bouncing off everyone. Frasier's the least funny person on the show most of the time but he's a brilliant island in a sea of chaos. They've tried to keep that but it's a sea of shite.

  6. There aren't many films I've seen twice in the cinema but you can add Hocus Pocus to that short list, albeit 30 years apart. That's fucking frightening that a bloke with a mental age of 12 is old enough for that but it is what is. I hadn't seen it from that original cinema trip until last year when my daughter discovered it and loved it. Now seen it several times again and I'm not sure if it's nostalgia, but I quite like it. This was the first time I really clocked the fantastic line from the bus driver when Bette Midler says "We desire Children" and he replies "Well, it may take me a couple of tries but I don't think that'll be a problem".

We also watched Coraline for the first time which is a really excellent film. Scared the shit out of me with the button eyes but a great premise brilliantly delivered. Amazing stop-motion animation. Also watched The Addams Family, the new version. This isn't particularly clever or original, obviously, but I really enjoyed it. Lots of really funny stuff. Looking forward to seeing the second one, which no doubt will be shit.

  7. Matthew Perry is like most wrestlers and musicians from the 80s and 90s in that I can't believe he made it anywhere close to 54 years and yet I'm shocked he's gone at only 54 years.

I wasn't in to Friends originally but then I got a girlfriend and she liked Friends so that meant I liked Friends (and Dawson's Creek and Hollyoaks...) and then I then became a genuinely huge fan (unlike Dawson's Creek and Hollyoaks apart from the calendar). As Pat states, Perry is clearly the highlight, he's got the best comic timing, the best delviery and the best lines for that reason. Friends at it's height was always about whether Ross and Rachel would get together and what funny shit Chandler would say this week.

I think I jumped in about 3 or 4 seasons in and went back and bought the videos - full price from WH Smiths - and caught up. The obvious thing whenever you watch it back is the changes in Matthew Perry throughout the show. Both his fluctuating weight and his voice, which is incredibly distressing at one point later in the show's run. He had a shit-ton of issues and we're lucky he was around.

Really, really sad yesterday to hear the news. We are on a run through the show with our youngest daughter and just watched a couple of episodes from series 2 on Saturday night. Not sure I fancy watching it again at the moment.

We watched The one with the Lesbian Wedding. Friends has come in for some criticism from some of those revisionist cunts in recent years. It's not perfect but it's not simply of it's time either. This episode is years ahead of most attitudes at the time and decades ahead of the Southern US. It tapered off, like most shows do but for several series, it's really tight and pretty challenging.

  8. I made these little key-lime pies at the weekend. First time trying it and they came out OK. Tasted like lemon to me but maybe I'm odd.

    image.thumb.png.11b324d45e42718c0e4aa24d45b4fbf2.png

Also made a spiced shortbread while I was waiting. Used a "Cake spice" my brother brought me from America. It's pretty close to what they put in "Pumpkin spice" though.

    image.thumb.png.9572913f419e03316bced6450b303052.png

Also did a fruit crumble that I forgot to take pics of. According to the boss it was OK but not as good as this spiced apple crumble I made a couple of weeks ago. The "Cake spice" was used here too.

  9. Anyone tried this? I had it as my post weigh-in cheat. Think it was 2.99 in Aldis. The middle is outstanding. Better than a Dominos, especially for the money. The stuffed crust is a bit dry but a load of ketchup and garlic mayo sorted it out.

  10. I made this. It doesn't have a name because I pretty much made it up. It's fairly close to Pastitsio and on a lasagne vibe but it was just something I came up with for stuff we had in.

Top layer is a standard bechemel with loads of cheddar cheese and once cooled, an egg and nutmeg.

Middle layer was a sausage ragu. Took the middle out of a load of pork chipolatas and fried them off, chopping them smaller and chucked in onions, tomato puree, tin of tomatoes, garlic, black pepper and oregano and just gave it half an hour or so or low.

Bottom layer was cooked pasta, Spirali, that I spread out, mixed in with one egg and more pepper and oregano.

Assembled the bottom layer, bit of mozzarella, poured over the ragu (added a ladle of cheese sauce first to help thicken it a bit) then the cheese sauce. Load of mozarella over the top and about 25 mins in the oven.

    Banging. Better than lasagne tbh.

I've also just got my first slow cooker. The meals aren't exactly picturesque but I've enjoyed cooking for the family. Done a couple of beef stews with dumplings, a banging sausage casserole and a slow cooked ragu that I made an actual lasagne with.

The worst thing about is it'll be couch in the usual WWE/AEW format where everybody has to compare and contrast them rather than saying "they're both shit and they both should be held to account." It'll be "yeah, well WWE has done more of this."

There are people moralising in here who watch Raw and Smackdown every week. People pick and choose their standards and always have.

The worst thing about it is that Ric Flair terrorised a poor stewardess. He'd be cancelled in any other industry. In this one, he's in the WWE opening montage and walking out on Dynamite. Scum.

Innit. Sure the business seemed to have cleaned up and gone from utterly horrific to less horrific. But all the newer nonces and a good chunk of historical nonces all seem to end up on the payroll of the same guy.

Don't worry, the biggest one will still be running the other place.

like Riddle, Velveteen Dream, Stone Cold and Theory? Neither of the big two look good right now, Impact seem to be the cleanest of the main promotions.

My brother lives in Dubai and I have a standing invitation to visit him, but I've chosen not to because being a soft liberal I feel very uncomfortable with adding to the legitimisation of the UAE and its appalling human rights record.  I don't get much holiday each year, I'd rather not spend it somewhere like Dubai.

But plenty of my mates LOVE Dubai and are always going there for the brunches and the shopping and whatnot.   They have different philosophies and morals to me and they choose where to draw the line - so some of them are vegan whereas I'm an affirmed meat-eater still.

The equivalent to this will be when you do go to Dubai in 5 years time.

"Have they sorted their human rights record?"

"No, but they have a GAP now."

But I think in a life as short and as often difficult as people have, expecting them to police their personal choice of entertainment to this degree is exhausting and unfair.

People can do what they want. We all know that. Some people vote Tory. Some people listen to Gary Glitter. Some people support Spurs.

  15. The fact that it's only pro-wrestling and isn't held to any decent moral standards is in evidence again. WWE didn't even cancel the shows in the wake of Jamal Khashoggi's murder and have never faced 1% of the scrutiny and column inches that the Newcastle United takeover has in any real media for this relationship.

That's to be expected. We are talking about an industry that was able to simply ride out the biggest name in its history's sexual misconduct and covering of rape allegations with his dirty money and rather than causing the catastrophic damage it would to any company in the real world - they set financial records and complete a mega-takeover that puts the "rapist" in a position of wealth and power that is unacceptable and unbecoming.

I expect nothing less from the media, particularly in the US. But it's scandalous that on a forum of hardcore fans with access to all the information and incredibly long memories that the absolute disgrace that are these bought and paid for Saudi shows from the "look at us we're nice guys who aren't really chopping up journalists and funding terrorists, honest, and our attitude to women, migrant workers and homosexuality isn't really from the middle ages, shush, be straight" nobs are reduced to complaints about shit DX and Goldberg matches. Even if you're a "I just wanna watch wrestling" moron, the Syrian fella being banned from appearing, the women wrestling in ninja outfits and the entire roster being stuck on a runway in clear distress should make you ashamed of this garbage. I've only ever watched the first one and I'm embarrassed that I did.

It's not a Shitshow because it's rubbish. That's the very bottom of the list of all the problems with it.

I went down a Frasier Google rabbit hole recently. Spoiler, she's aged very gracefully. Hot might be pushing it.

I think the main negative about the new one is the supporting cast just isn't as good as the original, and even as a standalone they're not that brilliant. I'm not sure how to explain it, but the original Frasier always felt like it was regular people that sometimes said clever and funny things but the forefront was their character and personality. This one feels like the supporting cast are always trying to be funny rather than fleshing the characters out. So now you don't focus on the relationships between characters, you focus on the jokes they make and if they land or not.

Saw the third one of the new series and I'm about 10/11 eps in to the original series. I think the first point here is pertinent. It's not that the characters in the original were massively fleshed out. There's been little to really define Niles, Daphne or Ros in the original so far. There's no big backstory given to anyone, it's subtle. The new characters are slowly being given bits and pieces of character too. However, they're just not as interesting.

I think the whole thing is dumber too. That's probably just a modern TV thing but there's a real dumbing down of the characters and the jokes. Probably good for an idiot like me. It's not Mrs Brown's Boys, don't get me wrong but it's a clear difference.
