  1. I don't have an explicit list but this year I got to go to Chicago and got to see a football match abroad. They were big deals for me.

I nearly got to tick off watching pro-wrestling in America but the only shows in Chicago while I was there were Impact wrestling and life is too short for that shit. Sorry @garynysmon !

Can't burp. Don't know how you're supposed to do it. Do you push from your diaphram or just your neck or throat. I can only imagine how satisfying it must be to let a decibel crushing belch out. You bastards.

Someone on Off Menu recently was talking about this. Apparently just managed to do their first burp ever unassisted. I think it was Paul Foot.

Does anyone know of any Britwres shows near-ish Berkshire coming up that would be suitable to take an 8 year old to? I’ve tried googling it but I don’t even know what to search for honestly

I don't know anything about them but there is a show in Bracknell on Friday night on Eventbrite. Claims to be a Family show.

  4. I get what you probably mean but often they're reputable companies. Disney Store get a lot of my money from FB ads and I bought something from Zavvi recently. I bought a TMNT T-Shirt (the character select screen from the old arcade game) from a shop called Qwrtees or something that came from a FB ad and that came and was OK. Generally, if I've never heard of them, I'll look them up on Trust Pilot. Unless it's bloody Temu or Wish or something. They can all bugger off.

  5. A great video from our own Big Spud. I think this is his best so far. Funny, but not intrusive editing, good content and useful. Great job.

Definitely not the first time he's handled a mini chopper though, eh? Eh?

This was pretty glorious. Working at 7 in the morning in the garden. Feels like being abroad.

Got two raised beds you can just about see. They've got lettuce growing like fuck in them, plus carrots, onions and cauliflower that has been decimated. got peas, potatoes and rockets in the containers bottom left, pumpkins in the containers along the fence and beetroot and parsnips in containers behind the raised beds. Got strawbs and raspberries in containers on the shitty decking not pictured, and been growing tomatoes and tons of herbs in my plastic greenhouse. Also seeded more carrots, kale and brocolli recently for some winter interest.

Garden needs more colour. Spring bulbs did well this year and we have a fuschia growing nicely but I put a rose and load of wildflowers in last year that haven't done anything and our lavendar came and went really quickly.

Trying not to cut the grass too often to leave some stuff for the bees and to see if it will avoid going yellow this year.

  7. I made this Mushroom ragu. We had it with pasta though, not polenta, which I've never had in my life. It was pretty good.

I then used the leftover ragu on homemade pizza dough (also Gennaro's recipe!) with cheese the other night and it was incredible.

  8. There are poppies everywhere at the moment. We've even had one growing out of our front wall, I dunno where it came from. I dunno if it's true, I'm getting older or I've got more observant in the last six months but there just seem to be certain flowers that are everywhere. About 6 weeks ago, I noticed just how many magnolia bushes/trees there are around us while walking. Millions of them, all blooming spectacularly at the same time. Not there are thirty billion poppies around and I don't think there's a garden, wall or path in the region that isn't covered in campanula at the moment. Beautiful.

  9. I'm trying chillies again. We planted seeds a few months ago but while our tomatoes and pumpkins have done really well, the chillies just never appeared. I've planted some more and after a few weeks, now have a few seedlings so fingers crossed.

Not cooking but my shitty mini wraps for lunch with lettuce from the garden. Need to eat more lettuce because it's growing like fuck everywhere. Think my daughter dropped some seeds because it's even growing in the lawn!

Anyone else plant their own veg? We've got lettuce, as mentioned, carrots, beetroot, potatoes, cauliflower, peas, rocket and tons of herbs, pumpkins and tomatoes growing in various tubs and some beds we bought. We've even bought a little plastic greenhouse for the tomatoes and seedlings.

There's nothing better than seeing stuff grow, is there? I'm getting old.

  11. Saw this in Ian's twitter. Really gutting news. Baz used to be a big user of my trading services back in the day. Lovely fella, loved his wrestling, football and telly. Fit right in on here. Always nice on MSN, chat, email and on here where he never got into any bother, posted about stuff he liked and never had a bad word for anyone. RIP Eugene. Up the Heed.

There’s something quite comforting knowing it’s on the same platform as all those Marvel films.

My daughter's got her first proper boyfriend. He's constantly round our house with her and has got her watching superhero shite. He's half deaf too so has the volume at 800 and subtitles on.

I've told her I saw him in the pub with another girl.

He'll throw out about 14 blokes at the Rumble, be joking about poo on Raw two weeks after, and then everyone will be booing him and everyone on here will say he's shite.

And then the WWE stans will blame those people instead of the company who haven't booked a babyface well (on purpose) since the 90s. Ah, wrestling.

I'm sure he didn't end up getting the payout from Lloyds of London because of WWF, someone let it slip to them that he was coming back, it cost him 300k.

They told that story on the SCG Monday Night Wars courtesy of Meltzer's reporting but the reason they enquired was because he was going to come back for the Triple H feud so it just doesn't ring true. If Lloyds had paid out and then he turned up on WWF TV (or WCW because they all jumped for the money regardless) then they were going to call it in anyway. I don't think it's as reported.

Pet hate - British wrestling fans who say Lloyds of London. It's just Lloyds Bank, lads. Sorry @sivy, it's not just you.

You can make things feel real without flashing a big neon sign that reads “It’s all “real” wink wink nudge nudge but this part’s ACTUALLY REAL!!11” because it often has the opposite effect - it’s the same level as when Matt Hardy said “Lita was married to Kane on TV but Amy Dumas came home every night to me.” I don’t need Punk telling his rival he’s less good at playing a similar heel character to a guy that works on the other show. I’m watching YOUR show, don’t talk about the other show, and especially don’t remind me it’s just a show. It’s supposed to feel real.

That's an apples and chalk comparison. The Hardy stuff is shit. If we got MJF doing some wink, wink, nudge, nudge stuff about Colt Cabana, it'd be similarly shit but none of this was that cryptic. He compared a snivelling heel to a similar snivelling heel on the most famous wrestling company in the world. None of that is over anyone's head, breaking kayfabe or being disingenuous to the storytelling. It's nothing like the Hardy stuff.

They trod that line very well, albeit as I've said ad nauseum, I'd have just done the Miz line.

That's very subjective surely? Because watching it on Friday night I didn't think that describing an AEW wrestler, albeit a heel during a back and forth promo, as being less famous than a WWE midcarder exactly put him in a good light.

Fair enough AEW has a lot of fans and goodwill on this forum, and are cut a lot of slack as a result, but that was a bit shit imo and was an open goal for the inevitable retaliation on Raw last night (from what I read).

He was belittling him. He called him a jealous fan, said he had a poster of him up on his bedroom wall and said he'd dropped behind Britt Baker as a pillar of AEW. It was completely in context. Of course it didn't put him in a good light.

  17. 24 minutes ago, Factotum said:

Absolutely. What a way to make that line utterly meaningless. Should have had Miz say something about it, fits his character.

On another note, Edge is so boring.

That segment really is terrible. Such a shame too because you'd imagine having Edge back is a draw to people who don't watch every week. His delivery is really appalling. An unimportant note but what was going on with his hair? He messed up his big "zinger" and Maryse could barely speak either. They weirdly scripted Edge to big up all of the Miz's accomplishments out of nowhere, probably just to allow them to get the "zinger" in (You're right, Miz should have mentioned it instead) and he did it all with the enthusiasm and excitement of a Nailz squash match. If that isn't bad enough, the crowd were completely dead and yet the fake crowd were very excited 2 seconds after everything. Horrible presentation. When Edge came out and did his running from to the side of the stage thing, the cameras lost him too. Fucking abysmal stuff.

Who thinks this is a good presentation of pro-wrestling? I get that they make a load of money, that's fine. They know how to milk their audience and how to fill 5 hours a week by obligation. But they've strayed so far from the watchable product they used to present in terms of camera work, direction, sound mixing, commentary and actual matches. It's not about scripted promos, bland characters, PG ratings, etc. They've had all that for 10-15 years and it's not always been for me but it's been something you recognise as pro-wrestling.

I don't know what this is. Every match, every promo, every commentary line feels like a video game. They run this live with an audience of people who want to pay to see them and they put video game sound over the top of it. The crowd might as well be CGI. If the "pandemic-era" shows taught us anything, it's that WWE doesn't care if there is an audience or not, they're going to do the same thing so this is no surprise but I'm just left scratching my head wondering who sits there watching the camera wobble up and down and zoom in and out, watching it flick from shot to shot like the DX entrance video, runs sound over the top of the actual audience in the building and thinks "this is alright this"?

Doesn't even annoy me, it's just sad.

  18. There's a place for it. These people have a history and are mostly known for their work in WWE so references that don't make AEW look bad are fine. That was always the issue with TNA, it wasn't that they mentioned WWE, it was that they always made themselves seem so inferior. Bryan mentioning WrestleMania for heat was great. MJF being called a less famous Miz was hilarious. Cody teasing hitting the pedigree was good too, same when it looked like Puink might do the five knuckle shuffle.

The references to Cena and HHH weren't needed and don't really help anyone. I'd leave that out. But at least it was stuff everyone could get, they're not alienating their audience. The New Japan shite is far worse for that. References to people we don't see and factions we don't know so that some old bastard can wobble down for a one off match or two. Fuck that. Bryan vs. Suzuki as a YouTube exclusive was absolutely fine. That's the way to use this stuff. Keep it the fuck off real TV.
