What are in the ins-outs of Living/Working in America?By that i mean, can you litterally just apply for a job over there and see if the company will sign you off, or would you be able to/could you go out for a "Working holiday" first and go from there? I'm aware of the immigration process' (having a trade/wanted work skill etc), then moving out for X ammount of time , then coming back to the UK and so on. If it helps I currently work in the IT industry, working with the lower end of technical support (which i imagine wouldnt be in great demand).Would it help if you have family who are residents of the US?Let me know if possible.

Hmmm, i'm not sure to be totally honest, although thanks either way mate!i'm just looking into moving over there to work/live, although again i'm aware of the "official" process, i was also previously told US companies can "Sign off" paper work for foreign workers, providing that they can prove no US resident either A) wants that job or B) cannot do that job. I was told this was valid whilst you work for that company. Again i also have family over there that live/work in the states that at very least i could stick down as some form of reference, if that would make any difference at all?If you can do have a word, as it'd be nice to know what the hell i'm doing, as i'm looking into jobs etc, but am basically unsure of what needs to be done for me to move over and work really.

If you've got a job lined up over there, then the company can endorse you for getting a visa. That is what's meant when it comes to signing off on paper work.

Fair shout on that one then, Are you aware if you would still have to follow the full process moving over for X ammount of time (a year is it?) then coming back to the uk for equal ammounts of time, and so on? Or could you generally work out there for as long as the company endorses you?Sorry for all the questions!

It probably varies on the college, but you should get one automatically generated with your student ID, regardless of the length of the course.

Sounds promising, cheers. Will probably phone around just to confirm.Reason I ask is I want to get into this Autodesk student community, which gives you access to a shitload of free CAD software, but you need the education institution addy for it.

Yeah, right. What's the grift, brutha? Nigerian scam? Pigeon Drop? Cousin Junior's Old Timey Do-Si-Do?

Haha, nah, quite the opposite. Too clueless and paranoid to safely DL everything I want through pirated means with cracks/keygens etc, and have

Sound technician advice needed. There is a works do coming up and I've agreed to play a few songs. The plan is have live guitar, bass and vocals. I'm going to record a backing track and have that play. I went to check out the room yesterday and in the DJ booth, they had a 4 track mixer.Would I just run everything through that? Say, one for the vocal mic, one for the guitar, one for the bass and one for the mp3? The manager said she didn't know how it works as the bands normally sort it out themselves.Cheers.

Not a sound technician, but a mobile DJ using a 4-channel mixer that has been in this situation a number of times.I have to say, that's going to be a nightmare, purely because most 4-channel mixers only have a top, treble and bass, so balancing the respective channels will take absolutely loads of sound checking. Commonly, the vocal gets absolutely lost. I'd probably see if you can get in when the place is quiet, or closed, and spend a couple of hours getting the settings right (mark them on the mixer or take a photo). It would probably be easier if you could either drop the instruments, and just sing to the mp3, or drop the bass and mp3 and just work with the guitar.Incidentally, www.jftd.co.uk is my website, if anyone has weddings or anything coming up

Thanks for that, Mr Ford.To be honest, it's a charidee thing and I'm only going to play three songs, including an industrial gothy version of Diamond Lights. It's more a piss take so we aren't pretending it's going to be the Albert Hall. As long as shit can be heard, that'll do.I will look at having a few hours on the day though, cheers.
