Highly recommend viewing if you've never give it a go. Week 2 peaked my interest with the inclusion of Namo Fazil in the main event. Fazil was the loud mouth who close to stole the show on the MVP show earlier this year, he's a bit of a wally but seems like must see TV. Surprised they've had him go through the Contender Series though. He's fighting Kaik Brito, a 2 time Oktagon Champion, this is some high level shit. Weeks 3 looks a good one too after this. He was a fairly high level BJJ guy (extremely boring tho) and I knew he'd been making the move into MMA but never heard anything so figured he was one of the many BJJ'ers who just can't throw a punch. Maybe that is still the case, but funny to see him pop up. This is at 205? Fucking hell I was at a IBJJF event many years ago and he was an absolute unit back then. Quote

Dai Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Watched the show from this Tuesday, which is the first time ive ever watched a contender series. Got lucky as it was brilliant. Hungry fighters, a great commentary team, no faffing with Buffer or entrance music, some nice video pieces to get you invested in the fighters, and a feeling of proper stakes being fought for. Great stuff! That first fight was bloody amazing. One of my favourite fights of the year I think. What followed was a bunch of great fights, and then it ended with an unbelievable, Rocky-esque, KO punch. Straight from a movie, with the way it was thrown and the way the guy went down. My jaw literally dropped when it happened. If you read this topic, @wandshogun09, then a gif of that KO and its replays would be great. Another gif request too, which was hilarious and sums up how checked out Dana White in 2026 is. Round 3 of a brilliant scrap happening, and a KO of the year contender, and what does the 'reaction cam' show Dana doing? Looking at his phone, missing said KO, then looking confused as to what's happened. I wonder if you can screen shot just his face when its in complete confusion as to what's happened, the moment he takes his eyes of the phone. Hilarious, and he must be pissed that they showed it. Quote

With TUF they go down as exhibitions until the finals which is a pro fight but on DWCS it’s pro all the way. Is there a reason why Bella Mir was that big of a favourite other than her last name? I know she’s a legit grappler but she’d only had four MMA fights going in? Seems a bit stupid to have anyone as that much of a favourite or underdog with that little experience. Edited August 26 by wandshogun09 Quote

That isnt THAT young, considering shes been in combat since a young kid. I assume she was such a big betting favourite as people got carried away with the last name and all of the other stuff shes been successful in. In MMA, it counts for nothing, as she got outclassed in this one. She showed absolutely nothing, and looked completely lost and not cut out for MMA. Like I said, 23 isnt young, so maybe she should knock the MMA stuff on its head, as shes clearly miles away from being anything decent. Some great performances on this one too. That Scottish guy, Clancy, looked great. Humphrey is someone im going to keep my eye on too. He looked top notch.  Quote

It's her first defeat - whilst she's not super young, 23's still young enough for someone to have all the pitfalls of youth, i.e. overconfidence, lack of experience under elite pressure, etc. Bear in mind she's a nepo baby - she's probably grown up never questioning her path, and not really having to graft very much for it, so her view of life and how easy things are going to come for her will be somewhat skewed. Her next fight will most likely be the litmus test. The reaction to the first loss is the most telling point. Quote

I'm just postulating that her life up to now, whether it's the fact she's a nepo baby or something else, has had her only experiencing wins in her life, and that her first loss will tell us (and, more importantly, her) more about whether she's a natural fit for MMA or not - from what Dai's said, she put in a bad performance that sounded like she showed no mental resilience, so how would one explain that for someone previously undefeated on a five-win streak? I'm not saying Dai's necessarily wrong; just that it might be jumping the gun to suggest MMA isn't for her, until we see how she comes back. Maybe I'm guilty of armchair psychology - there are plenty of nepo babies who made full use of their situations in life to do well, sometimes even better than their parents in the same field - but, however I get there, my point still stands. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 27 Author Paid Members Posted August 27 I see what you're saying, but i'm fairly certain Bella Mir has been knocked back enough in her athletic career to know where she stands as an athlete, you don't get to high levels of amateur wrestling and jiu jitsu without facing adversity, she hasn't been gifted her titles. You are right in saying MMA may not be for her though, she's breezed through to 4-0 and maybe this was way too soon for her, she may have simply froze on the night, who knows? It is a crazy loss though, there were people out there basically saying she could be UFC Champion now.
