I genuinely find these days planning long term doesn't really work a lot of the time, something always comes up, or you get the usual messers who agree and then drop out

Me and my close friends have got into the habit of phoning each other about a day or so before with whatever it may be we are suggesting and if its a goer it's a goer and if not there'll be another time

Used to try and arrange all sorts long term, hikes, snooker hall tournaments, going out for food and it just turned into a logistical and aggravating nightmare but phoning up striking while the irons hot has genuinely been working much better

My brother in law has been one of my best mates forever, I knew him before I met my wife, and he is and always was a nightmare with lateness and timekeeping. Love the bloke but he’s terrible for it. My wife says he was even like it as a kid. Just could never get his arse in gear and the world seems to exist entirely on his timetable. Thinking of sending him an invitation to my daughter’s 21st soon. She’s only 12 now but maybe 9 years notice will be enough for him to make it to his niece’s party on time.

Statistically there must be someone among us on this fine forum who is actually the ‘always late mate’ right? They’re probably completely oblivious it’s them though. Or maybe they’ll only finally get around to posting in here about it around next Tuesday.

My wife was a nightmare for lateness when we first met, once she was due at mine at 6pm and didnt turn up until 9pm. And she was the one that set the time.

She still has tendencies towards being late, but we put that down to her time blindness as part of ADHD. Conversely Im a big believer in being early not late, autism!

Sorry about that @deathrey - that sounds like a shitty time. Having young kids can be so isolating anyway so losing a best mate during that is rough.

I have a cousin who is terrible at planning and committing to plans - everything is just a noncommittal 'inshallah' and a shrug of the shoulders. It's not a problem for me as I just adjusted my expectations accordingly and I genuinely don't mind, that's just how she is, nothing personal. But then this Christmas she was flying over from Kenya with her son and got really upset in the run up when people were making plans for days out and stuff and she felt she wasn't included, and I had to tell her that she can't have it both ways.

I would have told her our itinerary when she got to the UK and expected her to just join / not join for anything as she felt. There was one thing that needed tickets in advance and I told her about that.

Oh well.. it is true that you teach people how to treat you by your actions.

Even worse when you're on holiday with a bunch of people - either your mates, or stupidly extended family.

People being late for breakfast.

People then using breakfast to argue over what to do with the rest of the day.

The rest of the day being all stressed and ruined by everyone clearly pissed off with each other.

Spend ages looking forward to a holiday and then realising you'd have been more relaxed at home by yourself.

I'd never go on holiday with extended family again. Awful idea.

One of the reasons I've avoided friend holidays almost all my life. I'll travel with the wife/family or on my own.

One of two exceptions I made was Las Vegas many years ago and that had the mural clause between me and my strong women wife of a friend that me and one other mate travel separately with our own plans so our deviating ideas of acceptance didn't clash

Worked a charm as well spent the days separate from them as they wanted to be lazy pool fucks while we were on a history mission. Then nights were "we're doing this...come find us here.."

Worked an absolute charm

I suppose this would fit, but indefinite time periods.

"I'll be over today" "I'll call you later" "I'll be there this afternoon"

Absolutely does my nut in, and I can't relax the entire time someone does this to me.
