Seeing some stuff coming up picking apart Jones' resume and drumming home the fact that besides the Gane walk-over, Jones hasn't looked good in a fight for about 7-8 years outside of that. It's got me second guessing a little.

I always had the Aspinall-ducking thing down as Jones trolling the fanbase a little, but seeing his fight week interview's I do genuinely just see it as more of him just not wanting to risk his legacy by getting into a tough fight he thinks he might not win. He's basically doing the boxing thing where fighters hit a certain level then protect their position by cherry picking the easiest fight for the most amount of money.

Seeing a similar situation over in Boxing now where the whole fanbase wants to see Canelo Alvarez fight the up and coming monster in David Benvavidez, but Canelo is having none of it.

Not sure I see the logic in that, due to the fact that Gane performance was last year. The main bunch of Miocics' last fights were against Cormier, which already seems a lifetime ago when he was fighting. Throw in that massive gap in time, the injuries and the age and I think Stipe being a 5/1 underdog seems justified.

Yeah I do too, but I see what they are saying. The Gane performance pretty much put to bed any inkling that Jones' was massively on the decline, but it was so short it didn't really tell us anything.

It also doesn't really tell us anything about Jones at HW level. Gane made such a rookie mistake, it's difficult to know how Jones would do against an experienced HW at that weight. I would have been interested to see how he dealt with Cormier in a HW match.

Yehh, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Abs don’t mean a great deal in this game

edit: Christ, I didn’t realise there had been a page of posts since the promo shots. Sorry lads.

For me, Jones has always been a bit tainted by just having such a huge reach/size advantage over his opponents.  It’s not really his fault, but it definately felt like a bit of a mismatch against people like Shogun and Machida.

Then Stipe has always looked quite undersized at heavyweight to me, so it just feels like more of the same… not surprised Jones is desperately ducking Aspinall where he doesn’t have such a natural advantage

Jones is now throwing Jamahal Hill into the mix of names he’d be interested in after Saturday. Another Light Heavyweight. Because he wants to fight guys “more his size”. So why move up to Heavyweight if you don’t wanna fight real Heavyweights? He is genuinely fucking pathetic at this point. All these years we wanted to see him move up to Heavyweight, and this is it? He keeps going on about legacy but he’s actually damaged his legacy with this Heavyweight ‘run’ for me. For all his faults, he was incredible for most of his run at 205 and I never would’ve had him down as a fight ducker. This stuff is as blatant as it gets now though. I genuinely can’t remember a worse case of dodging a fight in MMA history than this. Even the Tito vs Chuck thing wasn’t this bad and Tito did eventually get in there and fight him.

Yeah, i thought Jones was gonna come into fight week being a bit playful with it and make it clear he's just trolling the media and fanbase, but it's the complete opposite.

Im so damn happy to read everyone is in agreement with how Jones has been this week and saying he's not interested in tom aspinal and only Alex Pereira or retirement just shows what a joke this is. Take this title out of it and give it to the man who deserves it and acts like a true champion and make Tom the undisputed

He’s even mentioned Derrick Lewis as a potential opponent he’d be interested in now. I love the Beast but get out with that. He’s up for fighting Jamahal Hill and Derrick Lewis but Tom Aspinall’s a “nobody” and not worthy? Fuck me. He did mention those names as being fights if he vacated the title, which, I wouldn’t have had quite as big a problem with this Stipe fight if Jones had vacated the title sooner and let Aspinall vs whoever decide the proper champ. It’d still be a bad case of ducking but at least it wouldn’t have stalled the title picture.

Another excuse Jones is giving now is that Aspinall’s “an asshole” so he doesn’t wanna do business with him. For one, Aspinall’s been about as respectful as he could be in all this, some would say he’s been too respectful and nice about it. And just the fact Jon Jones is calling him as asshole is hilarious to me. Come back to me when Aspinall batters his wife, hit and runs a pregnant woman, fails a bunch of drug tests etc.

Jonny’s bottled it big time.

Bones would have better off just calling the Stipe fight his retirement fight even if he did plan on fighting on in some capacity, it would have stopped all of this shite.

He pretty much did when the fight was booked last year. The problem is he continued to hold the belt hostage and, the main reason he’s been getting backlash for me, he’s constantly been downplaying and dismissing Aspinall the whole time. If he’d announced last year that the Stipe fight was gonna be it but wasn’t such a prick about the most deserving contender in the division, this would’ve all been received much differently. There’d still have been disappointment that the Aspinall fight wouldn’t happen but that would’ve been it. It’s like he’s building a fight that he’s got no intention of actually doing.

Him constantly having digs and being condescending about a guy he’s clearly got zero intentions of fighting is just the weakest shite ever. He does this thing where he acts like he’s unbothered by the whole Aspinall cloud hanging over everything but it bothers him massively. He’s probably the most bothered fighter I’ve ever seen about it. He’s always responding to tweets and talking about people calling him a duck, can’t shut the fuck up trying to justify his reasons and convince everyone Aspinall isn’t worthy of fighting him, he’s even been hiding responses on his tweets that are too on the nose and completely pull his arguments to shreds.

He’s genuinely a fucking joke at this point. I keep seeing people say ‘maybe he’s trolling’ but he can’t be. This is making him look so pathetic, no fighter with an ego the size of Jones’ would actively choose the backlash he’s been getting and people calling his bollocks into question. He’s too sensitive about the criticism he’s been getting. If it was all a troll job and he knew he was actually gonna fight Aspinall, he wouldn’t be so bothered about people giving him shit about ducking. He’s trying too hard to justify it.

Financially, I’m sure he’s done very well out of these Gane and Stipe fights, but for someone who seems so obsessed with what his legacy will be, he’d have been better off just not coming back at all. Before this shitty stint at Heavyweight, his legacy (in the cage anyway) was just as the all time greatest and most dominant Light Heavyweight ever. He’s still got that resume at 205 but now this load of bollocks he calls his Heavyweight run tacked on the end of his career really stains the overall vibe around him as a fighter to me. Even the tired GOAT debate, people go on like he’s the nailed on GOAT and there’s no dispute but how can you be the GOAT when you’ve blatantly ducked the toughest fights at the end of your career? That knocks a bunch of points off surely? Then add in the PED controversies and I don’t see how you can hold him up on that pedestal.

Honestly I'm completely blown away because I thought I would be on my own with my thoughts and genuine detest and feelings about Jones but everyone is matching what I believe which is a rarity.

His behaviour in the media Day presser yesterday shows exactly why he's not the goat and in my opinion Will never be because he's clearly ducked aspinal, trying to change the narrative to suit him and sorry calling tom aspinal a asshole and disrespectful is such a universal lie it's offensive too fan's with eyes and ears. Tom has been nothing but respectful and a gentleman his entire career and throughout the entirety of this situation with Jon literally saying he doesn't dispute his legacy and Carrer he disputes him being the best heavyweight nothing else.

The fact he complained and the UFC changed back to the old gloves because Jon didn't like the new ones is disgusting but it's Jon Jones so accept it. I want nothing more than him go win lose or draw and leave this sport because he's a disgrace and sickening human being
