A fairer and more accurate comparison to Bret Hart in 1991 would probably be to look and see what sort of schedule your average midcarder has in 2024.

Whilst the number of matches worked will certainly still be lower and there wont be any two towns in a day anymore, I think two other huge factors are that matches now are often longer and also have way more action in them generally meaning the accumulated physical wear and tear is very possibly extremely similar.

Wrestlers these days are in significantly better physical condition, generally take good care of themselves, have medical/physical professional support, generally work less when they're hurt and the rings are safer to work in. It's why someone like Sheamus can wrestle an incredibly physical style for 2 decades with no sign of stopping. It's just not comparable to the bad old days.
