Never seen this before…

I get that cynics might say he only did this because he was on camera but I’ve heard a few times how good of a person Merab is. Obviously he’s had his meatheaded moments in a MMA setting but I think this was genuine. I remember Ray Longo talking about Merab not having a pot to piss in when he first came from Georgia and when he started training at Serra-Longo and I think he was still working construction until fairly deep into his MMA career. He knows what it’s like to struggle. Nice to see this.

Everyone’s favourite MMA munchkin power couple Megan Olivi and Joseph Benavidez became parents recently.

Bless ‘em. The newborn’s probably already as tall as his old man. Seriously, this is nice. Always thought Megan seems lovely and Joey B is one of the only fighters I warmed to from Alpha Male.

I’ll be honest though, the main reason I like them is because of their Halloween costumes a few years ago…

Ben Askren’s latest update after the double lung transplant. Anyone who saw the first video, it was hard to watch. He’s already looking and sounding a fair bit better here. Hopefully he continues to improve.

He looks and sounds so much better than his previous updates. It’s great to see he’s doing well, I can’t put my finger on why but I’ve always liked Ben Askren. 
 

You’ve got to imagine the mindset and drive of someone like Ben who’s been grinding in the gym for decades with his wrestling must really help in situations like this. I’d imagine it’s really easy to let a situation like this get the best of you emotionally and drain you. Fingers crossed he’s recovery keeps on the up.

It’s turning into the Ben Askren thread at this point but sod it. What a comeback! 

And he’s back on the mats!

Really great to see. It was looking bleak there for a while. Think it started in late May or early June and he was at death’s door for a while after that. So glad I’m posting about him in here and not the RIP thread. It was looking like it was heading that way for a while there.

Yeah that's great news. Great picture too, as he looks now as he always did, and not unrecognisable like he did when at deaths door.
