Paid Members DEF Posted March 1, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2021 (edited) I'm sure some of you have heard the background of this but I thought it was pretty cool and worth a thread. Over lockdown Edgar WrightΒ wrote to Martin Scorsese and asked him if he had any recommendations forΒ favourites of lesser seen British Cinema. Scorsese sent him a healthy list and asked for some recommendations from Wright in return. This led Wright to sharing both lists with Tarantino and they all seem to have had a blast going down the rabbit hole. Yesterday I listened to an ace 3hr Empire podcast with Wright and Tarantino discussing some films and Tarantino recommended some more films. Myself I've only seen 9 of these films so I'm going to do my best to give as many of them a shot as I can. Here's Scorsese's list Here's Wright's reply And finally Tarantino's podcast picks I've spent the night cross referencing the various available sources for the films and thought some of you might like a guide of where to look. If it says BD next to it assume there is also a DVD available. The ones in green are the films I've seen. If any of you stumble on any sources not mentioned let me know. A couple of the Blurays and DVDs might be out of print and I can't find Johnny Nobody anywhere. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 1, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2021 Needless to say, many of these can be found relatively regularly on Talking Pictures TV and a few of them on whatever Movies4Men is called these days. Wonderful resources. Also, always check ok.ru as they are much better for rare films these days than YouTube is. Their search is really shit so always use Google. Paid Members waters44 Posted March 1, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2021 My Dad won't be happy that Eric Sykes' The Plank isn't on that list! Anyway thank you for posting the list, great stuff! Shamefully I think I have only seen Kind Hearts & Coronets Chalk me down as another one who loved the Empire podcast with Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino, its a fairly big commitment at 3hrs but really really enjoyable

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 1, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2021 All three are strong lists, having looked through them in depth. Tarantino usually has terrible taste in films but All Night Long, Strongroom and The Hidden Room are all excellent and those are the only ones I've seen on his list, so I'm quite hopeful for the rest. Paid Members Chris B Posted March 1, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted March 1, 2021 Really interesting list. Vampyres and The Flesh And The Fiends are both cracking, and not ones I'd have expected to see in almost anyone's list, let alone Scorcese's. The Flesh and the Fiend was also really odd for me, as not only was a pre-fameΒ Robin Askwith a major part of it, you suddenly see why so much was invested in him. The lad was far more charismatic than I'd realised (even though I dislike his comedy stuff).
Rossman
Strongroom keeps popping up on Sony Classics most weeks in the small hours. They also had The Pumpkin Eater on a few times, last month.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted July 5, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted July 5, 2021 Tarantino was right about The Yellow Balloon as well, superb film, and a regular on TPTV. You can't go wrong with J. Lee Thompson.
