The poor bastard needed a a 17” rod in his leg and his career never recovered. (Video is a quite graphic in case you never saw it). I still vividly remember the incident to this day, but despite feeling like he'd been around forever, its mad to think he was still only 40 at the time. It was the same night Nash and DDP walked out during the show, when Steiner beat the fuck out of Page. If Sid had only stayed at home, he might have gotten another run in the WWF in 2001. I got the tape from a trader a week or two later but I reckon I'd have downloaded 87 files titled "SID LEG SNAPS INTO TWO PIECES.mpg" from Kazaa before that with 86 of them being fuck all to do with Sid. I think that entire run in WCW is the reason for most of the Sid angst. I know Mania 13 was a bust and Meltzer hated him but I don't think most had a problem with him even then. That run though? Fucking hell. Insane promos, terrible matches and the worst punches in the business. Great for WCWlolz.com or whatever but destroyed Sid's good name. (We'd moved to Sky Digital from the old Satellite, and they didn't carry TNT - either fortunately or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint!) I'd have most likely been sick had I watched that live. Imagine a Sid comeback in 2001? I'd have happily watched him set up an alternative protection agency to the APA, seeing a gap in the marketplace for a competitor, Powerbombing all around him for his clients, asking only in return that they tell him he's really good at softball. For years my Dad complained that getting Sky Digital was the 'biggest mistake ever' after realising we no longer got the German channels. Thankfully, in my case, dial-up internet had already replaced the delights of softcore porn on VOX. Paid Members The Ratt Posted January 14, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted January 14, 2021 The actual injury occurred on the Sin PPV but due to WCW being WCW theyd actually cut to the entrance ramp for Animals mystery debut as Sid performed his high risk jump off the second rope, and then cut back to him lying on the mat. They actually showed the graphic footage the following night on Nitro. And also because the finish of the match was Animal turning on Sid, he had to lie there in pain while Animal slowly made his way to the ring before he got any medical attention.
