alex1
Does anyone know how i can retrieve my sound on my laptop? It's disappeared. Normally it would have the sound control in the bottom right hand corner of the screen on the desktop-now no longer there. Â Any suggestions would be great. Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted December 27, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted December 27, 2013 Cant you restore your settings to an earlier point? That worked for me when a few years back. Â EDIT: Just to clarify, do you mean you have no sound or is it that the icon has disappeared?
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted December 27, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted December 27, 2013 On a slightly similar note, today I haven't been getting any audio on YouTube, DailyMotion etc. Audio is working fine on everything else on my laptop though. I'm pretty sure my flash player is up to date. Any ideas? It's probably something really obvious.

Bring up task manager, end process on "explorer.exe" -- when the process restarts, the sound icon will be there. Unless your sound card is knackered.   On a slightly similar note, today I haven't been getting any audio on YouTube, DailyMotion etc. Audio is working fine on everything else on my laptop though. Open up volume control and check that the "wave sounds" (or whatever it's called in XP) or the "system sounds" in 7 isn't set to mute. In my experience, it's usually caused by reducing the volume in something else that has a knock-on effect.
alex1
Hmm......tried the explorer.exe thing and still nothing. Â So, is it likely to be a sound card issue? Can i ask how i can get this sorted? Â Thanks
King Pitcos
Go to Device Manager and check the status of it there. If it's knackered, there are USB sound cards you can get that people posted on here a few weeks back.
CTXRussomark
I had this exact problem a few weeks ago after Windows installed some update overnight. No sound at all. If I even tried opening an mp3 in Media Player it just came up with an error message. I restored to the backup that was taken prior to the update and it's been fine ever since. MVP RULZ
Yeah I used to get this all time when Windows does updates  Sometimes it was just a matter of turning off and on again and it was back on occasions it has required a full system restore, hasn't happened in a while actually though thankfully

The sound hasnt worked for ages and i couldnt be bothered to (attempt) fix it, until now.
