Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 19, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 RDA should be counting his lucky stars McGregor is moving up as what was once a division with vast amount of challengers is now very limited. Â Cerrone is gone to 170, Edgar to 145, Henderson 170, Khabib always injured, Alvarez unconvincing, and Pettis now looking a shell of himself. How far would you say the likes of Ferguson, Dariush, Iaquinta, Yakovlev, Poirier, Oliveira and Magomedov are from title shots? I ask because nearly every time I read their results recently, they're winning. Surely one of them could be shunted up?
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 19, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 Tony Ferguson is up there. Him against Eddie Alvarez would be great too. Â Cerrone's move to 170 is a one off isn't it?
jimufctna24
If I had it my way. I would book  Cruz vs Edgar for the title  T.J vs Faber for the next shot  Obviously this isn't going to happen. Edgar stands to make more money by facing McGregor in the Summer, plus he's never fought at 135lbs (although I suspect he could make the weight quite easily). However, I don't really want to see McGregor vs Edgar, as I think Edgar is a bad style for McGregor, and I don't want to see McGregor to lose. Plus, I think Edgar vs Cruz styles would gel quite well. There would be few lapses in action, that's for sure.
Paid Members lambyUK Posted January 19, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 I've said this for a while, but I actually think McGregor handidly KO's Edgar Jim. Â I'm not saying Mcgregor won't have any issues, but Edgar would have to keep Mcgregor down for 25 minutes as he's not KO'ing Mcgregor. As soon as its on the feet Conor is too diverse and powerful for Edgar. Edgar has proven in many previous fights he's hittable and has taken a lot of punishment too. Â Its actually why I want to see it as its another fight to shut up naysayers. Â Edit: Carbomb. On that list you mentioned only Ferguson stands out but I'm not fully up-to-date on a 1 or 2 of those you mentioned. Â To be fair I didn't even consider Ferguson who arguably is the next logical contender on form.

I can't really argue with these points.  My main concern is that Edgar would play spoiler, and perhaps extract a submission in the later rounds. But as you say, Edgar would have little room for error. Even though Edgar has never been finished, it's easy to picture McGregor stopping him.
Paid Members herbie747 Posted January 19, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 Yeah, Ferguson is excellent - but wasn't he on a win streak that got derailed a short while ago? Kinda like Bisping & Cerrone - they keep beating everyone except the top guys. Â Edit - Ferguson hasn't lost since 2012, so he should he up there somewhere! But he has one of those lame angel wings tattoos, so that works against him.
Really Big Shoe
Guy Bifkin, on 18 Jan 2016 - 11:20, said: My recording ended at the start of round 5! Same here. Absolute wankers. I usually always set whatever the next program is to record just incase it runs long. The one time I forget to do it, this happens.  Yep, same happened to me also. I thought with the number of fights on the card it might have run over (plus with the Cruz/Dillashaw match possibly going 5 rounds, they should have scheduled 3 hours at least for the card). I think BT allocated 2 and a half hours for it. Luckily I Sky+'d the Bundesliga goals show afterward so got to see Round 5 and the post fight interviews. Sometimes I set the Sky recording to 10 minutes at the end too, but I think in future I'll Sky+ the next show afterwards, or if they are half hour shows, do the following one, atleast if a show runs way over you get it see it in its entirety. Also happened on the Rousey/Holm fight where it cut off the post fight analysis from Mike & Joe too. Thought Sky could do that thing where it extends the recording time when live shows run over but as it's a BT channel maybe they don't have control over that facility. Same with all the NBA games, I usually Sky+ the day time replay showings instead and watch those opposed to live as I've had ton of those miss the endings in the past if games go overtime. Only matches I Sky+ when they are live are the Playoff finals and the NBA finals since you get extra stuff like the buildup etc which is cut from the replays.
Guy Bifkin
I agree with what has been said about Pettis vs Alvarez. Huge disappointment.  I had a bit of sympathy for Pettis after the shellacking he got at the hands of RDA. He had his eye socket smashed in the first exchanges and to be fair, showed a lot of guts to hang in there as long as he did. He didn't look bothered against Alvarez though and gave a really poor performance. I really think he'd benefit from moving camps. He's the main man at Roufus Sport, and I imagine he's got a lot of people blowing smoke up his arse. They were calling him champ in between rounds. How was he not prepared for someone smothering him up against the cage again? With Ben Askren and Tyrone Woodley in that team it's surprising how poorly he deals with that kind of pressure. Pettis should be up there with the likes of McGregor and Rousey but just looks to be going backwards sadly.

It's similar to the situation dos Anjos found himself in, he slowly worked his way to the top but people still grumbled when he got his shot. Ferguson deserves to be right in the mix. For some reason, I thought that 2012 loss was more recent - like 2014 or something. It shows how important personality is. Ferguson was always just "there" for me - an exciting mid-carder who mostly won. But I never think about him or consider him when he's not on my screen - that's the important part to getting over. I should be saying: "I haven't seen X fight in a while - I wonder when his next fight is." - like I do with someone like Matt Brown or Josh Barnett. Guy Bifkin
Tony Ferguson was wearing sunglasses indoors when he did his last media scrum so maybe he's trying harder to get over. I like him as a fighter but I always mix him up with Max Holloway.

He talks a good game, isn't afraid to talk shit and is uber-confident. He backs that up with an exciting fighting style and a nastiness that lots of fighters tend to lack in MMA. He's gotta be on the cusp of a real breakout.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 19, 2016 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 Tony Ferguson has a real cunt vibe to me. I don't know if that's because of how he was on TUF years ago but I always seem to want his opponents to win. As a fighter though, can't fault him. One of the most entertaining fighters on the whole roster bell-to-bell, I reckon. Â Holloway is the opposite for me. He's always seemed like a proper sound bloke to me. The God stuff gets a bit much at times but I really like him as a fighter and from bits I've seen in interviews and stuff. Â And yeah, Ferguson has to be right up in the mix for a title shot. I'd go with Ferguson vs Alvarez next, I think. Winner gets a crack at the RDA/McGregor winner. Neither Ferguson or Alvarez would be a massive fight for RDA/McGregor but those two are the two who stand out at 155 right now as next in line to me. Throw Pettis vs Diaz together as well and you've got a pretty sweet set of fights at lightweight over the next few months.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 19, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 Tony Ferguson has a real cunt vibe to me. Yeh always seems to come off as the villain of the piece. Nowt wrong with that though, Ferguson just needs that opponent/feud that'll push him into the spotlight.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 19, 2016 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 19, 2016 All Ferguson is really missing is that one big signature win, I reckon. He's beat some excellent fighters but he could do with a win over one of those top names. The Josh Thomson win was great but Thomson has been on and off the sidelines so much in recent years that the win didn't seem to hold as much weight as it probably should've. Â If Ferguson gets a win over someone like Nate Diaz (imagine that fight?!) or, to a lesser extent, Eddie Alvarez, that'll probably go a long way to making people see him in more of a 'main event' light. They could do with putting him in that headline position maybe as well. Stick Ferguson vs Diaz or Alvarez out there in a 5 round main event on FOX or (more likely) FS1 or something. If he beat a name like that in a main event fight, I think he'd be hard to deny as the #1 contender.
