Ben Rothwell just tweeted this. They definitely fucked up not trying to get Ben a replacement. Unlike Dustin, it sounded he was willing to fight anyone.

If it's any consolation for people going, I imagine that Dublin crowd is going to fucking ballistic for Paddy Holohan in the main event. What an amazing series of events for such a likeable guy. First fight on the prelims a year ago, and now he's in the main event in his hometown. I raise a cup of tea to the man.

EDIT: It didn't take Conor long.

Paul Felder is also offering to step in. He's the perfect fighter to appease the fans. Always fun to watch. Unfortunately Dustin seems adamant he's not fighting anyone but Duffy.

Just imagine if they agreed to let Conor fight though. What a story that would be.

I wouldn't even want Conor to step in. Sure, it'd be nice for the people who bought tickets who have been royally fucked over on this show, it's a good short term fix. But in the bigger picture, we've got fucking Aldo vs McGregor in about eight weeks! Why throw McGregor in there on short notice and risk him picking up an injury or something at this point? I know he always 'stays ready' but it just doesn't seem worth it to me. At all. And especially because we've already seen him smash Poirier. He couldn't really batter Poirier any more impressively than he already did. As much as I love watching McGregor fight, and of course I'd tune in, I've got little interest in McGregor vs Poirier 2 right now.

Better to just re-schedule Poirier vs Duffy if they can. I get that people want to save the show, but we're two days out. Can't blame Poirier at all for not agreeing to go in with anyone else this late in the game. As admirable as it is when the likes of Bendo and Cerrone offer to step in left and right, that shouldn't be expected of everyone. There's been a few cases in the past of late replacements coming in and fucking things up (Varner vs Barboza, Ebersole vs Lytle etc). It's risky to take a fight like that. Probably better for all parties (except the Dublin ticket buyers, unfortunately) if they just re-book Poirier vs Duffy for January or whenever. It's a fight people liked when it was announced, it's the perfect test for Duffy, it's a fun matchup of styles. Why not just re-schedule it?

I think UFC really dropped the ball in not trying to get a replacement to fight Rothwell as well.

I do think this was a bit odd though. It does sound like they didn't even try to find Rothwell a replacement. And it's heavyweight. Most heavyweights don't even cut weight so that would've been one less obstacle. Surely someone would've stepped up. Even a Shawn Jordan or Derrick Lewis or something.

I hope Holohan wins now. The only way this show could get fucked up any more is if he loses. Smolka' no joke either. This show does seem cursed. It's like the total opposite to the 2014 Dublin show. It's almost like this is the price they have to pay in exchange for everything going perfectly on the McGregor vs Brandao show last time.

Hope you have a good time anyway.

bit of a disaster really :( being that im at a wedding this weekend i was a little worried about spoilers going on. Originally you had the Klitschko/Fury fight, Brook/Chavezz (which i wasnt worried about) and this. I was a little concerned, especially with the Duffy fight as he's a local lad whenever he fights its all over social media so i thought someone may blurt it out. Now all 3 fights have been called off, bonkers.

I still expect a good night of fights given the Irish factor but it's very disheartening to lose both main and co-main events. It appears that both Rothwell and Poirier turned down late notice fights to stay on which sucks but i don't really blame either guy...though the conspiracy theorist in me feels that Rothwell turning it down may have resulted in him losing out on the Miocic fight altogether which resulted in the UFC going with Miocic/Arlovski.

Full card as it stands...

FIGHT PASS MAIN CARD

Paddy Holohan vs Louis Smolka

Norman Parke vs Reza Madadi

Nicolas Dalby vs Darren Till

Neil Seery vs Jon Delos Reyes

FIGHT PASS PRELIMS

Stevie Ray vs Mickael Lebout

Scott Askham vs Krzysztof Jotko

Aisling Daly vs Ericka Almeida

Cathal Pendred vs Tom Breese

Darren Elkins vs Robert Whiteford

Bubba Bush vs Garreth McLellan

Ridiculously thin. Still a couple of fights I'm looking forward to and I think the crowd will be hot for it so that should help. But this card really got shagged raw.

Is Holohan vs Smolka three rounds or five?

I have come to the conclusion that October 24th is cursed for combat sport.

I know the whole thing is on Fight Pass so it doesn't really matter, but I'd definitely put Pendred and Daly on the main card. Those are the fights people will be most interested in, especially now Paddy is in the main event. It's essentially an SBG showcase.
