Paid Members Egg Shen Posted July 27, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted July 27, 2015 i think top of the p4p list is a bit premature, he's only 4 fights removed from losing to the guy ranked 5th in the world. He's no doubt the most improved fighter in MMA though. The p4p list (which is a stupid list) needs to be topped buy someone who's cleaned out his division in dominating fashion. Whilst I agree that's an ideal benchmark, I don't see how it's a foregone conclusion? I put Mcgregor nearly there too and he's far from near to cleaning out the division. Basically Jones is the outstanding candidate, followed by Aldo, but I find it hard to pick either of those two for said reasons.  I'm saying there's a claim for Dillashaw based on what he's achieved so quickly, and beating a man twice who was previously unbeaten who had been outclassing the whole division and is still in his in his prime, whilst producing two of greatest displays of MMA I've personally ever seen.  Of course you're right, it's a horse shit list that's all objective.  In relation to Carbomb, Weidman is definitely up there too, but I think if he beats Rockhold and then maybe Jacare, I'd put him at the top. Hell, if he beats those two and then Romero, I'd say he's the greatest of all time.
d-d-d-dAz
For me, it's DJ. I think part of the reason his opponents look so ordinary is because he's made them look that way. Â He's boringley good, which I think hurts public opinion of him but for me, there's no one who moves like he does, who's as slick and technical. Yeah, as much as p4p is a pretty daft concept, my vote goes to Mouse.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted July 27, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted July 27, 2015 Just more the fact that Dillashaw has only defended his belt twice, the two wins over Barao elevates him massively but other than that he's not beaten anyone else who's currently in the top 15 of the division. Â Demetrious Johnson on the other hand has beaten (from what i can tell) 7 of the guys currently in the top 10 of the Flyweight Division and is around to fighting some of them again. Â There's no real argument for me. Johnson ranks higher.

I'd say he's got a bit further to go before he can be called GOAT, but there's definitely an argument for best P4P in the world currently.  Talking of subjectivity, I'd say one could make an argument for Rousey being the best P4P at present - cleared out her division, all with decisive finishes, and her entire fight time doesn't add up to even one championship match. Paid Members lambyUK Posted July 27, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted July 27, 2015 Correct sir. I even knew as I was typing it that it was incorrect but I was writing that as I was about to go into a work meeting and couldn't be arsed to find the right term. I knew it had 'tive' at the end of the word.
Paid Members lambyUK Posted July 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted July 28, 2015 Here's a curveball that I unashamedly stole from reading on twitter, how about if Cruz can't get back in time go with Dillashaw vs Edgar for 135 title? I'm pretty sure Edgar could make it as he's still not a massive featherweight. I know Edgar wants Mcgregor first, but there's no way they are giving him Mcgregor before Aldo.  What a fight that would be.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 28, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted July 28, 2015 Dillashaw vs Edgar would be great. Edgar wouldn't be as fast as TJ and his footwork isn't as hyper but his combination of great boxing, top grappling and his own (more traditional) movement could give TJ problems, I reckon. I'd be 50/50 on that one. Â I've said it before, I actually think Edgar has a decent chance of becoming the first fighter to win a UFC title in three different weight classes. Now he's got to get a move on, but he's a guy who's realistically in that weight range where you can see him beating top guys at 155, 145 and maybe even 135. Edgar's own coaches have said before that they believe he could make 135 without much hassle. He's skilled enough that I could see him pulling it off. I wouldn't write him off against Aldo in a rematch and I wouldn't write him off against McGregor or Dillashaw either. I honestly think he'd have a solid shot at either title (FW or BW). Paid Members lambyUK Posted July 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted July 28, 2015 Edgar is that good that I wouldn't write him off against anyone at 135, 145 or 155. Who else could you say that about in the whole of the UFC that could do damage and probably win a title in 3 divisions?
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 28, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted July 28, 2015 He'd be a decent sized 135er as well. He was a small lightweight, he's an average sized featherweight but I think he'd be a bull at bantamweight. He's intelligent enough and has the wrestling background that means he'd do the weight cut right too. So I don't think he'd end up leaving his cardio in the sauna. Â I'd love to see him do it. He's fucking ace. He'll never go down as a big star or anything like that but if his legacy ends up being that he was the first guy to win UFC gold in three divisions, that'd be awesome. He's already one of the best ever lighter weight fighters for me. But that would be something concrete to stick on his Hall Of Fame plaque. Â Problem is I don't want McGregor to lose. Ideally what would happen is McGregor beats Aldo for the title, then they do a huge rematch. While this is going on Edgar drops to 135 and beats Dillashaw and Cruz, solidifying himself as the top dog at 135. Then Edgar comes back up to 145 to do a champion vs champion superfight with McGregor. Edgar wins, becoming the first 3 weight UFC champ. They rematch, McGregor wins. Edgar retires a legend. McGregor moves up to lightweight for classics with Pettis, Cerrone, Alvarez etc before dethroning dominant (still) champ Rafael Dos Anjos... Â I'll stop dreaming now because I'm fully aware 95% of that is a pipedream.
METAL ON METAL
First malfunction of Reebok gear (in use) occurred on this show, Elizabeth Phillips suffered a nip-slip in her fight with Jessamyn Duke. Was bound to happen sooner or later.
David
Am I the only one who wouldn't be overly stoked to see Dillashaw take on Cruz? Seeing two guys Irish jig around each other for 25 minutes doesn't really get the juices flowing...

Seeing two guys Irish jig around each other for 25 minutes doesn't really get the juices flowing...  You know what David, I know just yesterday as I was all like 'this fight will be as good as mma gets', but listening to Cruz on the mma hour a short while ago (and he was great on there btw) changed my mind completely, at least from a fight perspective.  He said something like "Dillashaw won't be able to touch me", and it dawned on me there and then that neither one will probably land a strike with their elite level movement.  That said, I still want to see it, to see if either can work one another out. It would be one of those 'for the purist type fights'.
