Condit vs Alves was a really good fight. Shame it ended on the broken nose because it was shaping up to be a bit of a war. Condit looked lethal and you'd never have guessed he'd been out over a year watching that performance. I wouldn't mind seeing them re-book that Condit vs Matt Brown fight that was scheduled a while back now, if Brown gets by Tim Means that'd be my choice for Condit's next fight.

Oliveira vs Lentz was a corker. Those two really bring a different level out of each other. Loved this fight, one of my favourites so far this year. All action in all areas. I liked Anik's suggestion of Oliveira vs Max Holloway next. Never even thought of that one but it'd be incredible. Maybe a step back for Holloway after beating Swanson but I'd love to see that fight.

I made this Carlos Condit "Desire" video as a joke initially (because he takes himself very seriously, I figured the sound-bites would fit well), but it turned out awesome:

Love Condit.

That's a beautiful thing Herbie.

I would like to see Condit fight Matt Brown next. That would be an orgy of violence.

I believe Condit can win the title and I'd fancy him against Lawler. He's never been roundly beaten, in fact I think he's been a bit unlucky in his defeats...I thought he won the Kampman and Hendricks fights, he blew his knee against Woodley and whereas I agreed with the GSP decision, he gave him a serious scare. He has so many ways to finish a fighter and rarely delivers a bad fight. He's super handsome too. Really hope he can stay fit and make a run for the title.

Who'd have thought this nerdy looking kid..

...would turn out to be such a badass?

I'm with you, Guy. Condit's got the tools to become champion. Literally the only facet of MMA he lacks is defensive wrestling. That's the only way people have been able to beat him. And like you say, only GSP has beaten him convincingly in his UFC stint. I also had him beating Kampmann the first time.

The Hendricks fight, while I see why it was scored for Hendricks, I think I would've scored it for Condit if I was a judge. I thought Condit was getting the better of the standup exchanges for the most part and, while Hendricks was scoring takedowns, he was on the defence the whole time on the ground because of Condit's attacking guard. If you take your opponent down and then get nothing done because you're spending the whole time defending submissions and eating elbows, who really won the grappling?

He doesn't get nearly enough credit for the Rory MacDonald win either. That's written off as 'well Rory was winning the first two rounds, if the ref didn't stop it with a few seconds to go, Rory would've won the decision' as if Condit got lucky. He didn't get lucky at all. He fucking destroyed Rory in the third round. Battered him. Fucked up his eye and all sorts. Even if Rory won the first two rounds (which I'm not even sure about as Condit rocked him early as well), then I still don't think he'd have won a decision because the third round was Condit's BIG. Had to be a 10-8, which would mean Rory could only get a draw at best. Condit took the best Rory had for two rounds then utterly ruined him in the third. Even Rory said after the fight, something like 'it was a good stoppage, he kicked my ass.'

I was suggesting Condit vs Brown too but now I think about it, is there a better option to challenge the Lawler vs Rory 2 winner than Condit?

Lombard would've been the logical choice but he's fucked it all up by popping for steroids. Woodley would be possible but he's Lawler's teammate and he just lost to Rory last year. The only other one would be Hendricks getting another crack which I wouldn't be against but if Lawler wins it might be a bit soon to do Lawler vs Hendricks again.

Plus, whoever wins out of Lawler vs Rory at UFC 189, it's win-win. Lawler vs Condit would be unreal, batshit pure violence. And Rory vs Condit 2 is a rematch that's been brewing for five years. We can't lose with either fight.

So I'd like to see;

Lawler/Rory winner vs Condit

Hendricks vs Woodley

And as unlikely as it is - Matt Brown vs Nick Diaz

Yeah.

If Condit doesn't get the title shot next I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch with Nick Diaz. Given how much bitching Diaz did after the last fight & how selective he is now about who he fights I reckon it’d be interesting. Can’t see it going any differently than the first fight but another win over Diaz should put Condit next in line.

Also, potential good news for Mr Diaz. I heard on a podcast yesterday that Nevada are bringing in medical marijuana very soon & there’s a vote next year for full recreational use (as per Colorado & Washington) which is expected to pass. Once this happens the NSAC will pretty much have to take it off the banned list.

I'd love to see Condit vs Diaz 2. But the MMA Beat lot were on about that a while ago when Diaz was sitting out spending his GSP fight money. Apparently the UFC offered Diaz a rematch with Condit and he's not interested. I think it was Luke Thomas who said that he'd heard that Diaz had no interest in fighting Condit again as he expected Condit to fight the same way as last time.

I love Diaz but that's typical Diaz shite. He won't fight me how I want him to and play to my strengths so I'm not interested.

Diaz is such an idiot. I was really looking for to what seemed like "The Year of the Diaz Brothers" when he signed with UFC & Nate was also doing well for himself. And Nick just fucks shit up for himself by being dumb. He could have made serious money by now - but he'd rather live off a couple of big pay checks, whilst it's also likely he'll have tax issues at some stage. And he can't even stop smoking week for 1 week!!

This Saturday night...

FOX SPORTS 1 MAIN CARD

Dan Henderson vs Tim Boetsch

Ben Rothwell vs Matt Mitrione

Dustin Poirier vs Yancy Medeiros

Thiago Tavares vs Brian Ortega

Joe Soto vs Anthony Birchak

Alex Caceres vs Francisco Rivera

FOX SPORTS 1 PRELIMS

Shawn Jordan vs Derrick Lewis

Brian Ebersole vs Omari Akhmedov

Chris Wade vs Christos Giagos

Justin Edwards vs Joe Proctor

FIGHT PASS PRELIMS

Ricardo Abreu vs Jake Collier

Jose Quinones vs Leonardo Morales

Pedantic but why has Boetsch got top billing over Hendo on the poster? Boetsch vs Hendo doesn't look right to me so I'm not playing by those rules. It's Hendo vs Boetsch.

So...Hendo vs Boetsch is the main event. Not ideal but we've had worse. This card was originally set to be headlined by Cormier vs Bader before Jon Jones being naughty forced a reshuffle at 205. Now Cormier vs Bader looks like it's back on, only now it'll be for the title.

Anyway. Hendo vs Boetsch should be violent and anything but boring. I'm not in love with the fight though. And I think that's simply because Hendo seems finished and has done for a while. He's one of my favourite fighters ever, a legend and one of the fighters who made me a fan in the first place, but if we're being honest he hasn't looked good in years. Looking back over his record, I'd say his last hurrah was the first Shogun fight in 2011. He hasn't been the same since then IMO. Neither has Shogun. That fight left them both close to, if not, completely shot it seems. In fact, the only fight Hendo has won since then has been the Shogun rematch last year. And he was getting his arse kicked for most of that fight as well. It's not just that he's been losing, he's looked pretty bad in the process. It just feels like the years and all the wars have finally caught up to him. He's so banged up now. His knees are knackered, he can't turn his head without moving his whole upper body and he just generally moves like a pensioner.

I'd have been loving this fight a few years ago. But I'm at the point with Hendo where I've seen enough. I'll always tune in, but I hope he stops soon. Now Boetsch is a step down from Hendo's recent opposition, but I still have a bad feeling about it.

Rothwell vs Mitrione should be alright. Two heavyweight sluggers. Don't really like either of them though. I dislike Rothwell less so I hope he wins.

Poirier vs Medeiros should be exciting. Really like the sound of this fight. Totally forgot it was even booked.

Tavares vs Ortega could be a dark horse FOTN contender. Has potential to be a nice ground war. Tavares is well known for his BJJ. Ortega is also a BJJ black-belt under Rener and Riron Gracie though. He looked great in his UFC debut last year but then he popped for steroids and the result was changed to a No Contest and he was suspended. Hopefully that's behind him now.

Joe Soto returns. Interested to see that. He fought well in his unexpected last minute title shot against TJ Dillashaw last summer. I can see him ending up working his way back into contention eventually.

Caceres vs Rivera is my pick for FOTN and should be the perfect way to kick off the main card.

Prelims are thin as fuck. Jordan vs Lewis has 'first round KO' written all over it. Ebersole vs Akhmedov is OK. That's it for me.

Decent enough.
