dxpunk
It's a credit to Bret Hart's ability that he comes up so much in this thread. For me the moment that really kicked me in the gut was the Montreal screwjob. I was and still am a huge Bret fan and was really enjoying his heel turn in 97 and I remember getting really excited for Survivor Series and Bret finally getting his hands on Shawn. This was before I had Internet access to follow the behind the scenes stuff so if it wasn't in the magazines I didn't know it was happening. When it all went down and the reality of it all kicked in I really felt let down and bitter towards the WWF. WCW wasn't as easy to follow in those days from the UK so it wasn't going to be easy to follow what I was expecting to be Bret's glorious run there... Â As it happens this was just what Vince needed to get things going again and the Austin stuff was great but for me things were never quite the same. Have really rekindled my passion in the last few years. I think everyone moving on from Montreal got rid of the bitter taste. Loved them bringing Bret back and the meeting in the ring with Shawn. Closure and moving on.

When Cartoon network finished at 21:00pm  Loads of people i knew caught it randomly just flipping through, as not many I knew people had sky sports when I was a kid. Â No ppvs though. All the build up and no pay off. Very annoying.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted November 25, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted November 25, 2012 I watched every PPV WCW put on via DSF for years. DSF wasn't even a smart fans way of watching WCW either. It was fairly common knowledge that their PPVs were available via the German channels. dangerously420
Was always one that hated the McMahon Helmsley faction. Really felt for Foley losing at the 2000 Royal Rumble.

There was nothing more tense on earth than starting to watch back the tape on Sunday morning in the hope that my Dad, having come back pissed from the pub, hadn't turned channels. I know that feeling. Some great porn on those German channels on a Saturday night. Â WCW Magazine even told us UK fans how to tune into WCW PPVs on DSF. Nice of them. Barrington
Stone cold joining forces with Vnice McMahon. I was jumping out of my seat with the millions of near falls. I remember thinking The Rock had won and dropping to my knees when Austin kicked out. Then screaming for joy when I thought Stone cold had won, only to turn round from dancing to realise Rock kicked out of the Stunner. At this point I didn't care who won. I would've loved both of them forever. Then it happened. Austin told Vince to get him the chair and proceeded to beat The Rock half to death. While JR asked what the hell was going on? I shook my friend and in a fit of rage actually asked "what did you do? Is this your doing?" I didn't wait for the answer, then got upset. I honestly can't think of a time I was actually that bothered.
ryan_of_lord
First 'Heartbreak' in WWF for me is very aptly named!! Was totally the day the Rockers split up.....I hated Shawn Michaels that day! I though Jannetty was so much better....at least I grew out of that! uk_wrestle_fan_1981
My first experience of any kind of heartbreaking moment was when Flair won the 92 Royal Rumble....my heart sank the second Sid tipped Hogan out as I was so sure Hogan was gonna win! It's possible you thought Jannetty was the better because in an awfully high proportion of Rockers' matches - or at least the ones I've seen - it's Shawn that played babyface in peril. So it might have been natural to think "Shawn's getting beaten up again, he needs to tag Marty in to save the day."

LMAO, I agree with this totally, with Marty being the 'older and more experienced' one of the 2 of them, they always seemed to try and make him look like the leader and therefore 'more talented' one of the 2! His failings were highlighted pretty swiftly once they were split. Great memory of the barbershop incident though, probably one of the most powerful promo segments they have ever done, ranks up there with Piper's pits that had the Snuka coconut shot and Andre ripping Hogan's T-Shirt off!
