If the new Rangers arent in a position to apply for the 3rd Division before the start of the season, then tough titties. The likes of Spartans and Cove Rangers have the credentials to apply for the free spot (3 years audited accounts for a start) and as such they should be allowed entry. New Rangers can then bide their time til the next space arises.

Surely the point of having non-league football at that level be regional is to make it more viable for fans to go to away games and boost gates. Conference North is big enough as it is without expecting Oxford City to travel to Glasgow.

You're kind of right; it's to make it more viable for the clubs more so than than for the fans; to limit the cost of travel and accomodation to teams located a long distance away.

If Rangers were to be placed into English non-league football (hypothetically speaking), there's the national conference (Blue Square Premier) which is level 5 of English football, then the Conference North and Conference South, both levels 6 of English football. Conference North would be the nearest league to put Rangers in. The furthest they would have to travel would be to Oxford City (curiously, playing in Conference North and not Conference South next season).

The FA wouldn't allow it. Recently they changed the rules to any new applicants. New applicants MUST be based in England.

Also, if Sevco don't get into the SFL this season then god knows how long they would be able to survive as it's not just a case of "Ooh, next season we'll have a spot." As they will have to vote in a club THIS season.

With Ibrox and Murray Park lying useless, how can they facilitate the costs involved?

The FA would not allow it but why should they get to start as high up the pyramid as the Conference North anyway?

The reason given would be that they have such a large support compared to the other non-league teams, and that it's completely unreasonable to expect 2-4000 travelling Rangers fans to converge on what is essentially little more than small parks rather than actual football stadiums, not least because said non-league teams would not be able to cope with stewarding and policing costs of crowds that would be 10 times bigger than what they normally get.

They wouldn't be placed high up the pyramid due to favouritism, it would be for practical reasons.

When other fan-run newcos have started in English non-league football (Chester, AFC Wimbledon, FC United etc) they have started off at different levels/divisions (some higher up the pyramid than others), mainly due to their differing levels of fan support.

Chester, for example, when they first started off, were originally placed in the 9th tier, but challenged the decision due to their very large support (more than 10 times what a club in that division usually gets) and won, being placed in the 8th tier instead.

What will probably happen is they will create a SPL 2 and Rangers will go into that, the game up here has needed big changes already, like a 14 team SPL and changing the voting structure etc. They could always turn the old 2nd and 3rd division into regions or whatever, with a play off to get into the SPL 2.

Let me rephrase it then, why as low as the Conference North? If Rangers take say 15-20,000 fans to away games can those in the Conference North cope?

the game up here has needed changed for a long time, instead we had greedy clubs feeding off rangers and celtic but now because of the rangers situation, they plan to act? you gotta laugh when the spl managers have asked their fans to vote, funny how they didn't ask the paying punter to vote league reconstrucion many years ago

They should just sit out this season and get everything (Division 3) ready for next season. Not a chance of it happening though.

Seriously, why are some fans even bothering to suggest this? Should we just play a 9 team 3rd division for a season to accommodate a new Rangers? If they're not ready, someone can take their spot and they should be made to wait till another spot opens up. Some fans are moaning about integrity of the league as well then suggest going to the 1st division. Again, a lot of shite. Any new club should start at the bottom, there shouldn't even be a vote to let a new club join the top league in the first place.

The England idea is a terrible one and a total non-starter.

John Brown is an absolute buffoon as well. Charles Green said they're not looking to sell the company, but looking for investors. So he sticks in a bid to buy them, aye, good yin John.

Fair play to the ones who actually did attempt to do something, but to be honest, Rangers and a lot of their fans have no-one to blame but themselves for this whole charade. The majority of fans sat back on their arse during it all, lapping up every word the media said on who the next bidder was and how much wealth he had with the "WATP, we're too big to die," attitude.

Absolute shambles that has embarrassed Scottish football as a whole.

And coming from a Celtic fan, this is a lot of shite as well. Celtic and Rangers were/are the greedy ones. The distribution of TV money has been a farce for years, and showed both sides of Glasgow to be the greedy teams who fear any change will help other teams challenge their domination of the Scottish game.

Have to laugh at a Rangers fan referring to other clubs as greedy when their just about to go under after years of cheating their way to trophies and titles that they couldn't afford.

As somebody else said, Rangers aren't being punished. Rangers are in liquidation, some chancer is running around claiming he owns the name and stadium and is trying to circumvent the system by saying his shell company are Rangers FC. Something stinks here. There's something they're trying to stop us from seeing and it's within the corpse of Rangers. Magicians would call it misdirection.

BBC Scotland has learned of plans being put in place that would allow Rangers to move directly into Scottish Division One in the coming season.

Rangers FC plc are soon to be liquidated and Charles Green's consortium are reforming the club.

But Green's Rangers newco has not gained support to replace the old club in the Scottish Premier League.

And senior Scottish football figures are proposing that Rangers start season 2012/13 in the second tier.

There are also plans for the SPL and Scottish Football League bodies to be merged into a new organisation called 'The Scottish Professional Football League' in 12 months' time.

The main points of the propsals are:

:yinyang: Rangers are to be relegated with immediate effect and be replaced in the SPL by Dundee.

:yinyang: Television rights for Rangers matches in Scottish Football League Division One are to be bought by the SPL for

Good predictions, as you can see elements of that in the proposals leaked to the BBC today.

I still think Rangers should be in Div 3. It's unfair on Div 1 & 2 clubs to parachute a newco into Div 1 instead of putting them in Div 3.

I think the SFL clubs in Div 1 & 2 may start kicking up more of a fuss now.
