Napoli 2 Liverpool 3

Scorers - Lavezzi (1), Cavani (1)

Kuyt (1), Carroll (1), Agger (1)

We had a few connection probs and lost it at half time with Lfc 2-0 up, so we started another game and only included the 1st half.

Kuyt gave Liverpool the lead with a well taken shot inside the box before Andy Carroll continued his recent good run of form with a cracking finish from 18 yards out. Danny Agger nodded home a corner right at the start of the 2nd half to make it 3-0 before Napoli fought back through clinical finishes from Lavezzi & Cavani. Napoli were by far the dominant team in the 2nd half and were unlucky to not get at least a point.

Napoli 2 - 3 Liverpool

A game of two halves, not least because it had to be played in two separate halves! Andy Carroll ran the show in the first half and created Liverpool's first goal when after a neat run his cross to the far post was turned in by an unmarked Dirk Kuyt. Carroll struck for Liverpool's second six minutes later, after another neat run towards the edge of the box the Napoli defender tracking him allowed him space for a shot, believing that he couldn't possibly score from there, but Carroll's strike from the edge of the box found the bottom corner and put Liverpool 2-0 up at the break. After some connection issues at the stadium the second half began. Napoli didn't look at the races in the first half and were constantly being ripped apart by Carroll's play. Napoli's bad form continued when Daniel Agger powered in a header from a corner just three minutes after the restart. Seeing the scale of the task ahead of them, Napoli seemingly woke up. Some sustained Napoli pressure resulted in a goal when Ezequiel Lavezzi nodded home a cross to the far post. Reina was in good form in the Liverpool goal, but was beaten for a second time ten minutes from the end when Cavani scored to give Napoli some hope. Try as they might, Liverpool defended well and hung on to their now slim lead to take all three points and deny Napoli a point after a Jekyll and Hyde performance by the Italian side.

Napoli goals: Lavezzi (61'), Cavani (80')

Liverpool goals: Kuyt (26'), Carroll (32'), Agger (48')

Aston Villa 1 v 1 Napoli

A spirited game at a rainy Villa Park. Villa scored in the 6th minute after the referee awarded a perhaps debatable freekick when a Napoli defender looked like he won the ball fairly after a battle of strength with a Villa attacker, but the referee thought otherwise. What wasn't debatable was the quality of the strike that put Villa one up when Ashley Young curled a delightful free kick in to the bottom corner. Napoli started to test the Villa defence a bit more afterwards, forcing Brad Friedel to make a couple of good saves, whilst Villa almost scored when a header from a corner was smartly plucked out of the air by De Sanctis. Napoli equalised after 41 minutes when a Lavezzi strike was well saved by Friedel, but the American 'keeper could only parry the ball in to the path of Edinson Cavani who steadied himself to put Napoli level with a neat sidefooted effort. Villa almost regained the lead just before the break when a freekick after another debatable foul was put just over the bar. In the second half Napoli started to dominate the game a bit more, forcing man of the match friedel to make a string of great stops from the Napoli strikeforce. Villa looked dangerous on the counter though and came close once again with another freekick. A draw probably about right, though Napoli might think they could have grabbed a winner in the second half.

Aston Villa goal: Young (6')

Napoli goal: Cavani (41')

Liverpool 3 Roma 1

Scorers:- Agger (1), Kuyt (1), Gerrard (1)

Vucinic (1)

Red Card - Juan (Roma)

Liverpool continued there fine run of form with a victory over Roma. Danny Agger struck first with a headed finish from a Gerrard corner & Dirk "TinTin" Kuyt double the lead from close range after a shot was saved by the Roma keeper. Into the 2nd half and a Juan saw red for a professional foul & from the resulting free kick Stevie G stepped up from all of 25 yards and smacked in into the top corner! Roma fought back and after some slick passing football Vucinic found some space in the box & finished neatly for Roma's first goal in the competition.
