UKFF FIFA 11 PS3 League: Season One Thread

The fixture draw has been completed and the inaugural season is ready to begin.

League Organisation

As is stands, the league is organised in the following way:

- Two games for each team per week (a week runs Monday - Sunday, so hopefully there's enough time to plan and play your two matches by the end of the weekend).

- Teams play each other twice over a season.

- Each match is standard default length (6 minutes per half).

- Usual league rules apply, i.e. 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, etc.

- If two teams are level on points they will be separated first by goal difference, then by goals scored and finally by record against each other. If still tied then teams will be temporarily ordered alphabetically unless it's on the final table in which case a further separation method will be required (e.g. coin flipping, playoff if an important position, etc.).

Important Things to Note

When you play one of your games, make sure to note the score and then post it in this thread. Also for this season could people also note down the scorers and any other important info such as sendings off, etc., as stunstone is going to collate the stats and produce scoring charts, etc., and will post an update most weeks. I'll do a league table update after every week of fixtures.

Remember to manually download the latest squad updates from the menu (My Fifa 11 > Squads) even if you've been prompted to do so in a head to head game before, otherwise any recent transfers or attribute updates for your team won't be applied as the head to head updates are usually temporary. If your team's recent transfers still don't show up when you play online, when selecting the 'play a friend' option change the game from 'unranked' to 'ranked' as this may force/prompt both sides to play with the latest updates whilst online.

Your two matches each week can be played at any time during the week and in any order, meaning that you don't have to play your fixture one opponent first before you can play your fixture two opponent.

If you know that you're going to be away/not going to able to fufill your fixtures for a certain week in advance, let your opponents know and also post in this thread so that you can arrange to play those games before/after that week. If fixtures haven't been played by the end of the third week and a reason hasn't been given in advance (e.g. on holiday for week), then the fixture will be decided upon based on who tried hardest to get the fixture played. If both tried relatively evenly then it'll be a 0-0 draw, if one side tried a lot harder than the other to get it played it'll be a 2-0 win to them. The decision will be made by me with occasional consultation with my stats man stunstone316. If we can't reach a decision, or either side are unhappy with it, then a consensus decision will be made. This three-week rule is to prevent a fixture backlog and to make sure the tournament runs fairly smoothly.

Presumably we have no quitters here, but as the EA servers are a bit temperamental I know that genuine connection errors can occur fairly often, so if this does happen it's best to first liaise with your opponent to agree on whether or not the score should stand or whether you should replay the game. It's best to use your common sense with this one, so if one of you is 3-0 up with 5 minutes left it may be worth just accepting the result. If you can't agree, then post the problem in this thread and I'm sure as a group we can come up with a consensus decision.

Here's a list of everyone involved (PSN names in parentheses), sorted by team name. Remember to add your opponents as a friend to able to play them via the head to head -> play a friend menu option.

Week 7 Reports: By stunstone316

<-- click on 'spoiler' to show/hide the spoiler

Aston Villa 2 v 2 Juventus Krasic, Matri

Agbonlahor

Downing

The first point for the new Juventus manager but it could've so easily have been three. Juve found themselves two up half way through the second but as the game wore on and Juve's defence began to tire Villa's spritely attckers came into their own. Once back on level terms Villa pushed hard for the winner and Juve were possibly fortunate not to lose in the end.

Chelsea 4 v 3 Barcelona Iniesta (2), Xavi

Malouda

Torres(2)

Drogba

The top of the table 6 pointer and these games usually promise so much and deliver very little but thankfully in the case of this game it delivered so much more! Quite probably game of the season between two equally skilled sides and it could've gone either way. It wasn't short on entertainment. Iniesta opened the scoring very early on for Barca and that kicked Chelsea into life as Drogba first hit the post from a freekick and then sent through Malouda to equalise. Half time came and went and the second half exploded into life when Drogba again hit the post and the ball fell to Pique who was felled in the box. From the resulting penalty Valdes made the save but it was only a matter of minutes before Torres put the ball past him. A short time later Drogba finally got his goal from a curled freekick and Chelsea should have been home and dry but some poor defending twice allowed Barcelona in. With the scores equal and destined for a share of the points Torres broke Barca hearts by scoring the winner with the last kick of the game. Beathtaking!

Inter Milan 0 v 1 Man Utd Berbatov

Treachorous conditions for this one saw the pitch covered in mounds of snow. As they have in the past United again complained of kits blending into the scenery only this time it was their opponents Inter Milan who they had a problem with as their white kits made it difficult to identify them against the weather. That didn't stop United nicking the win though and nick it they did in the 90th minute from the Bulgarian.

Atletico Madrid 3 v 1 Aston Villa Bent

Forlan (2)

Suarez

Diego Forlan continues to make a late surge for the Golden Boot Trophy just as his side continue to make a late surge to the very top of the league. They just had too much for Villa here. Forlan gave them the lead early on only for Villa to equalise straight after. It was a to and fro battle that went Madrid's way after a goal from Suarez and a second for Forlan.

Roma 0 v 2 Dortmund Riise(og), Kagawa

A little harsh on Roma this one but unfortunately the points ar won on goals scored. Dortmund bizrrely found themselves in front at half time despite not having a shot on goal until after the hour mark. A hooked clearance from Roma's Riise went into his own net. Roma came back strong and looked for a way through but couldn't find it. Dortmund found teh net a second time and then kept possession to claim all three points.

Man City 1 v 1 A.C. Milan Pato

Balotelli

The City boss feels he was fortunate for a share of the points in this one as Milan dominated proceedings. After the Milan boss understandably felt agrieved as he felt his side had dropped two important points.

Napoli 2 v 1 Bayern Munich Gomez

Maggio

Cavani

A difficult game for Bayern as they'll feel they maybe deserved a point from this one but unfortunately for them it comes down to goals scored of which Napoli did once more than Bayern. It was a close game that could've gone either way. At teh end of the game Bayern manager Bumclass Hero gave a hint that he may be contemplating retiring from the game. Bayern fans have enjoyed some good football under his guidance and we're up in arms at the thought of losing their beloved boss!

Real Madrid 3 v 1 Everton Bilyledintiov

kaka

Adebayor(2)

A battle between two sides at opposite ends of the financial scale but on the pitch they were both fairly evenly matched here. The game saw 4 goals all of which were scored via headers. Kaka was the first scorer and after some pressure Everton were level through Bily. In the second half Top scorer Adebayor nodded in twice to make the points safe for Real.

A.C. Milan 1 v 0 Tottenham

Cassano

A deserved win for a Milan side who over the course of the game threw over 30 crosses into the Spurs penalty area. It was a bit of a surprise it was only the solitary goal that won it. Spurs on the other hand only managed one shot in the whole 90 minutes but we're very unfortunate to see William Gallas sent off for an inocuous challenge,

Arsenal 1 v 2 Inter Milan Eto'o, Pazzini

Van Persie

Another London/Milan derby. Another win for a Milan side. Inter reverted to their 4-5-1 formation and it seems to have worked a treat. They were in front through Pazzini although Arsenal didn't take long to respond through their top scorer Van Persie. Arsenal then went looking for a second but try as they might they couldn't convert their chances. Inter could though and how they did. The ball fell to Eto'o on the edge of the area and he squeezed a drive through a host of Arsenal defenders into the roof of the net. Before this game their were rumours Inter boss El Nickos job was under pressure. For now he must have appeased his chairman.

Barcelona 0 v 3 Napoli Cavani (2), Maggio

The perfect example of what happens if you fail to take your chances. This was a bad week for Barca as they lost both their games but it could've been a different story at half time in this one if they'd taken their chances better. As it stood it was goaless at the break. It was Napoli who opened the scoring in the second half from a corner and not long after they doubled their lead. Barca pushed forward trying to find a way back and in doing so conceded a third after sending Valdes up for a corner, Napoli were able to steal the ball and break away for Cavani to slot home into an empty net. Chelsea's league? Possibly.

Liverpool 0 v 1 Atletico Madrid Forlan

A very tight and scrappy affair that was settled by the solitary goal. Athleticos top scorer Diego Forlan was the man with the plan as Athletico look odds on to finish amongst the top 5.

Dortmund 3 v 0 Real Madrid

Kagawa

Barrios

Gro

As silly as this may sound, the home team (e.g. I face Liverpool first) sets up the game, stadium, first choice of kit etc yeah?

I know its a minor in the grand scheme of things but to those of us who like to believe its a 'real home game' with kit, colours, stadiums etc id like to think this would be the case?

Should be fun, good work so far.

It's not essential but if you want to do it that way it's fine. It's really just because each team plays each other twice so it's a way of differentiating between the two fixtures.

Nice bit of symmetry there, as Me and BumClassHero played our first tourne games together last time out. That ended 1-1 and it was a good game so I'm predicting another toughie this time out. Then I'm up against the boss man himself with Napoli in the second game. Barca vs Real Madrid in the first week is pretty tasty and all.

Just a quick heads up to say next week from Tuesday until the next Wednesday (Mar 29th to April 5th) I'll be in the States for that small wrestling thing is Atlanta, so depending on who I get that week I might be able to do the Monday, if not the week after would be grand.

Best of luck to all, except for when you play me, and thanks to TUFCfan for setting everything up.

Again TUFC amazing work you're doing buddy. Jesus....Barca to kick things off, you couldn't have written it eh? What a funny old game football is.

I'm more than happy being the resident statto so if people can provide as much info as possible from their games when they post the results I'd be most grateful. I'm thinking scorers, assists, man of the match, sendings off that sort of stuff. To the new comers to the tourney its always good to do a paragraph write up on your game containing all this info them I'll collate it all together and give a weekly round up of stats, info and debate which will hopefully be a nice closer to the week after TUFC's initial hype when releasing the fixtures.

Again thanks for your help in advance and I'll see you on the pitch. Bring your A games fuckers! ;)

History repeating itself?! If we draw again Nick and I have missed about 7 sitters with Thomas Muller again, I give my promise he will not feature in another game the entire campaign

Better pick the Bayern boys up from the agony of losing the cup final and get some revenge on Tilde too :sneaky:

Good luck to everyone involved, oh and Robben for golden boot!

I've just changed my whole room about, need to buy a ethernet cable so I can hook my ps3 up to the router. I've tried it wirelessly and there is some delay which I don't like, should have that within the next day or two.

Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan

It was fitting that the tournament winners kicked off the league facing an AC Milan side making their debut in a UKFF Competition. Early pressure from Chelsea saw Fernando Torres hitting the post twice from tight angles but then a Torres strike in the penalty area deep into stoppage time of the first half meant Chelsea went in one goal to the good. As the second half kicked off not much was offered from either side until Fernando Torres skipped past one defender before smashing the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box to make it 2. AC Milan put a bit of pressure on at the end trying to get a consolation goal but Petr Cech made 2 fine saves as the final whistle blew.
