Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 5, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2012 Anyone think theres anything in Chael hinting at not fighting Anderson Silva but looking at 170 or 205 instead?  I can't see much coming of that myself. Especially 170. I think Chael's pretty big at 185 so that cut would probably be shit for him. I could see him maybe having a couple of fights at 205 again (Machida's been calling him out aswell), but I think he knows the big fight out there for him is Anderson. It's gotta happen again.  Regardless, Kimbo Slice remains one of the best things to happen in MMA. I ain't talking from a fight or credibility standpoint, im just talking in excitement. Right from following his street fights on Sherdog, to figthing in the EliteXC, upto the UFC thing, everytime Kimbo was involved i was f'n glued! oh he won another boxing match at the weekend too.  Yeah Kimbo's 3-0 in Boxing now. He's never gonna be a top boxer but I'm happy to see he's still found a way to keep fighting and making money. With the way the heavyweight division is I wouldn't be surprised if he lands a biggish name fight if he keeps winning. Kimbo vs Tyson Fury? Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 5, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2012 Few new fight announcements  Brian Stann vs Alessio Sakara (UFC on FUEL 2) Papy Abedi vs James Head (UFC on FUEL 2) Anthony Perosh vs Nick Penner (UFC on FX 2) Mark Hominick vs Eddie Yagin (UFC 145) Matt Wiman vs Mark Bocek (UFC 145) Matt Riddle vs Jorge Lopez (UFC 143) (Riddle replaces Amir Sadollah) Shane Roller vs Michael Johnson (UFC on FOX 2) (Roller replaces Cody McKenzie)  Some good stuff there. Really like the sound of Stann/Sakara and Wiman/Bocek especially. And I'm looking forward to seeing how Papy Abedi looks against a lower level guy. I get the feeling he could be good but Alves was a step up he wasn't ready for.

After his stint in Strikeforce it was pretty much confirmed that the guy had nothing to offer. I remember the old comparison with Mike Tyson, which I didn't really like, as Tyson actually came out and knocked people out. Â Slice looked all menacing until someone kicked him a few times in the knee. He just looked like a drunk, stumbling hobo after that. read my post again, i said i wasnt talking from a fight or credibility standpoint. I'm just talking being excited to see him fight, i bought into that shit and i loved going along for the ride. It was entertaining as shit. Sakara-Stann will probably take co-main on that show...thats the kind of fight they need to get Stann in too, gonna be a slugfest.  Looking forward to seeing Papy Abedi too, he impressed me whilst he was in the cage with Thiago Alves, fearless dude.
Paid Members Dead Mike Posted January 5, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2012 I was so happy when Kimbo got shown up for the bum that he is. Yeah he bought some casual fans to the sport but only the type of people who get excited by someone with a big beard. As soon as he got exposed it was obvious he had no place there & essentially he took a spot that could've gone to someone who actually had a chance of being a contender. Credit where it's due, the UFC did a cracking job of hyping Kimbo up & fooling people into thinking he actually had a chance, unfortunately a carefully edited highlight reel doesn't count for much when the octagon door closes. Kimbo's got a great look, I always thought that he'd be good fronting some kind of 'Toughman' show. Â Did anyone see that clip Ariel Helwani posted on Twitter with the 'Chael's corner' segment of one of the new UFC TV shows? He basically just badmouthed Machida, Wandy & Anderson. It was the most 'WWE-like' piece I've seen from the UFC. I (unsurprisingly) found it pretty cringeworthy but I'm sure some peeps will get MEGALOLZ from it. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 5, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2012 Paul Daley's bagged another fight in Engand, he's fighting for Cage Rage UK on February 4th against Luke Sines, who for my money has never had an MMA fight. He's a kickboxer. i
Barearse
Do we think Daley will use his superior MMA skills then and take this to the ground?!

jimufctna24
Elite XC would have never have gotten the 7 million or so viewers without Kimbo. The second show they did headlined by two world class (for the time) middleweights and without Slice took a major ratings dip. Â Kimbo was never top 10 and maybe even top 20, but he is a important part of MMA history because as stated above he got eyeballs watching the sport. I can see a lot of MMA fans in America were first exposed to UFC/MMA through Slice, those fans crossed over to the UFC to watch Kimbo fight on TUF as well. I bet some of those fans now worship Anderson Silva and GSP. Â He was never that charasmatic really, just a street fighter with a great look who gained fame on the web. I remember watching the Gannon fight online in 2005, the Kimbo thing just grew and grew with the age of the interenet and youtube in the mid to late noughties., it was a product of its time. Â Without Kimbo drawing those ratings on network TV, FOX would not have much confidence in MMA drawing ratings and may not have given UFC a chance last year. Yes he was not the best fighter to introduce a new fan to the sport, but it takes a personality to do that, like it did with me with Tito Ortiz, WWE fans crossing over because of Lesnar, and droves of Japanese fans due to Sakuraba or Sapp. Once they are drawn to it they appreciate the Silva's, GSP and Jones of the world more. I know I grew to appreciate guys like Big Nog and Shogun after Ortiz drew me to there chosen profession.

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 5, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2012 All just rumours at the minute but there's a fair bit of talk that the UFC are lining up Alexander Gustafsson to fight Shogun on the Sweden card in April. Probably as the headliner. If not Shogun then Little Nog is another rumoured possibility.

I heard that  I think Gustafeson may beat Shogun unfortunatly, he looked like a future title challenger in his last two fights. I hope I am wrong but Shoguns career may have peaked when he knocked out Machida.

Why is that unfortunate? Don't we want younger, new challengers to come through the ranks and get into the title picture? Shoguns best days are behind him now. It is unfortunate for me as a Shogun fan, and other Shogun fans which there are a lot of. I am glad there are new challengers on the way up, but its always sad to see your favourite fighters on the way down.
