Nah Sonnen knows exactly what he's doing. By creating the character 'Chael Sonnen' he doesn't have to be publicly accountable or answer any tricky questions about his indescretions. He can just say 'wacky' shit & enough MMA fans will have the 'ZOMG did you hear what he said? How crazy it that?!!1' attitude that he'll be afforded a luxury other fighters in his postition wouldn't. The moral of the stoyy.....if Nate Marquarhdt had slagged off more MMA legends he'd still have a job.

Yeah, but how long will it be before fans stop going "OMG did you just hear what he said?!?!" and become accustomed to his shit? I know that I've grown to accept the fact that he talks nonsense 99% of the time.

In fact, when he fought Silva last time I was rooting for a Sonnen win. This time I'm largely indifferent to the result of the fight.

There's still plenty of people on here, who watch a lot of MMA who still think his fake interviews are 'hilarious'. It's exactly like we discussed with the manufactured smack talk from fighters prior to bouts. People will believe it & buy into it because they want to, same as wrestling.

The first fight was that exciting because it was a real shock seeing Silva in that position. Now knowing what we know a good chunk of that shine has been taken off that fight. The rematch is interesting for a whole different bunch of reasons & I see Silva making short work of him.

:D I don't give a shit myself. Sonnen's good entertainment to me and he's the legit biggest threat to Anderson's title reign. That right there is enough for me to be massively excited for a possible rematch.

All this shit talk from Chael, most of it is clearly a load of bollocks but he does it to get people talking and it obviously works so he got what he wanted. When he signed with the UFC no-one really gave a shit about him. He's not got an overly exciting style and he's not gonna be knocking people out left and right. Right or wrong fighters like that don't get title shots as easy. If he hadn't talked shit he'd be the Jon Fitch of the 185s. Now he's in a position where if he fights Anderson again they're talking about holding it at Cowboys Stadium and it being a huge hit on PPV. Just 2 years ago he was fighting Dan Miller and no-one cared. You can't knock him for finding a way to raise his stock.

I do agree it could wear thin though, it clearly has already for some. I get the feeling Dana's not a big fan of his interviews aswell. A few times Ariel Helwani's brought it up and Dana seems uncomfortable with it and even said people were comparing it to WWE after 136.

Chael Sonnen is by far the most entertaining man in MMA, i can see why he pisses certain people off and i know that he doesn't really believe 90% of the stuff he says, but I couldn't care less. As someone who follows MMA on a daily basis, i love having him around, MMA's like a massive soap opera for me and Chael plays up to it, i know some people will hate me saying that, but i don't care. It's kept me excited every day for the past 8 years.

After Channel 5 hardly showing any UFC for ages, this Saturday will mark three weeks running of UFC on Channel 5. It started with UFC 66 (which I missed sadly), UFC 85 last weekend and will continue with UFC 137 this Saturday at 11:15pm.

If you haven't seen 137 you're in for a real treat with Penn vs Diaz. That was a legit FOTY candidate.

Speaking of that fight, here's BJ Penn on his retirement. His eye's recovered fucking quick.

I don't have ESPN but YouTube's good for finding fights providing you find them quickly and I also know two other streaming sites which work well ;). I watched Penn/Diaz the day after via those methods and thought it was one of the best fights this year. It's amazing to me that the first day of the year produced my Fight of the Year still with only a month left and that's Edgar/Maynard II.

If he's pissing people off he's doing his job, that's for sure. I just think he's slowly creeping to the line of people not really giving a fuck what he says, as they're so used to him talking nonsense.

Casual fans wont care though.

It is only the real die hards that read everything he says. Most just know him as the guy who talked shit about Anderson after beating Stann and the Silva fight itself and the build up to it.

Most wont know his views and pisstakes of Wand, Cro Cop and others. Some wont even know about the money laundering and testarone antics.

Yeah I'd agree with that. This is my rough top 10 fights (UFC & Strikeforce only for easyness) so far for this year

1 - Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard 2 (UFC 125)

2 - BJ Penn vs Nick Diaz (UFC 137)

3 - Nick Diaz vs Paul Daley (Strikeforce: Diaz vs Daley)

4 - Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard 3 (UFC 136)

5 - Jose Aldo vs Mark Hominick (UFC 129)

6 - Diego Sanchez vs Martin Kampmann (Versus 3)

7 - Dominick Cruz vs Urijah Faber 2 (UFC 132)

8 - Rousimar Palhares vs Dan Miller (UFC 134)

9 - Matt Wiman vs Mac Danzig (UFC on Versus 6)

10 - Jim Miller vs Ben Henderson (UFC on Versus 5)

Honourable mentions to

Lytle vs Hardy

Barao vs Pickett

Maguire vs Edwards

Lentz vs Oliveira

McDonald vs Figueroa

Kongo vs Barry

Diaz vs Cyborg

Fedor vs Henderson

Fuck, what a year. And there's still FOX, 139, 140, 141, TUF Finale and a couple of Strikeforce shows to go yet.

hmmmn, maybe at times. I think it's kind of a position now where everyone wants to thrust a microphone in front of Chael in hope that they get some gold from him. Still everytime i see 'Chael Sonnen interview', im gonna take a look.

This time last year we would have laughed if it was said any Fight of the year list would include 2 entries from Gray Maynard. Although he'll have to work his way up again, no doubt he's had a great year from a viewing perspective and he's won a load of fans.

Can't argue with your list either. Can't wait for the MMA awards!

Typically, I'd agree that everything Sonnen does is fake but I watched a few of his interviews back to back and his sociopathic stare is just too good to be true. "You're an immigrant from Brasil and I'm a gangster from America" is just one of his amazing lines and I can't imagine anyone else in sports or entertainment coming up with better smack talk.

Here we go again.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation declined to license Mark Martinez due to incomplete medical paperwork, and Karl Knothe (20-6) has stepped in to fight Bobby Lashley (6-1) at Shark Fights 21. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed the news with a source close to the event after an initial report by Sherdog.com.

The heavyweight title bout headlines the event, which takes place Nov. 11 at Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. The event airs via delay on FUEL TV on Dec. 23.

Knothe is the fourth proposed opponent for Lashley and comes into the fight on the strength of a 12-fight win streak. All of those wins have come inside the first round, and eight of them have come by way of stoppage due to strikes.
