Yeah, it's not a Bond film. It's a Bourne film. Plus I don't agree at all you can't do a campy and more humorous spy film these days - just see the OSS 117 films.

In my weird headspace, the name "Bond" is basically something that comes with the 007 position. Each Bond is a new person that's taking over the mantle of 007, and therefore taking on the Bond name. So this chap is very much a 21st century Bond.

They alluded to this is in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, actually. Lazenby says, just before the opening credits, "This never happened to the other fella...".

Talking of OHMSS, I watched it again the other day. It's amazing.

The thing that worries me about the next Craig film is that yes, Casino Royale was pretty good, but I think that has a lot to do with sticking so closely to the original novel (or at least the last half of the film did). They then had a chance to make their own plot and it was a mess. You could tell whoever scripted QoS had no confidence whatsoever.

The other issue is that they sold Casino Royale as a true depiction of Bond, which isn't really true. Even if you ignore the films, the Casino Royale novel is quite different to some of the ones that followed.

Well, it's the first novel, right? So, character development and so on. I think saying the film isn't Bond enough because it stuck too closely to the original novel in which the character was created, is a bit of a weak argument.

You can't do both types of BOnd in one film, I think the Brosnan years proved that. You can either do campy fun, or dark spygames. This generation has chosen to go with the latter, and I'm on board with that.

I take your point about the next film, though. Let's hope it has a better script than Quantum. Early signs look promising.

Finally got around to seeing Bulletproof over the weekend when it showed up on Channel 5. It's an okay buddy comedy with Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler. Mildly entertaining. Not rubbish, but not great either. Worth a go if you fancy that type of thing from a film

Last night I gave Highlander: End Game a go as it was on BBC 3 well late on. What a complete and utter clusterfuck it was as well. A plot that makes the earlier Highlanders look sensical and straightforward, some acting right out of Am-Dram and some effects that looked like they were done by the work experience lads. The editing is so all over the place that one second one character is in London, without missing a beat the next he is answering a phone call in Paris, and it just spirals from there.

Awful in every concievable way, even Bruce Payne hamming it up couldnt save it. Avoid.

I wouldn't read too much into that line, it was a joke Lazenby kept saying on set, and they decided to use in the film. Moore, Dalton and even Brosnan all have moments that refer to the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, suggesting he's supposed to be the same guy.

And yes, OHMSS is a cracking film.

Well Watched Insee Thong the original Red Eagle last night that i purchased a while ago on a 4 movie boxset from thailand since the recent Red Eagle was released in the UK this year and it was obviously a lot different from the Modern Gritty superhero movie but was still good for when it was made in 1970 still had a lot of the martial arts action, worth the watch if anyone can find a copy.

Have Rowdy Rathore and Don 2 to look forward to watching tonight.

Has anyone seen Ted yet? Is it Family Guy funny or The Cleveland Show funny..?

I saw it a couple of weeks ago at a preview. Its not as scandalous as you would expect from Cleveland Show or Family Guy. Its a badly behaved bear and a tale about boys growing up. Like I said in this thread a while ago if you know of Flash Gordon that might help.

I loved it.

I saw it last night, it's just so one note. It's a bear that swears and drinks and that's the joke for an hour an a half. If you love Family Guy, you'll probably lap it up, but baring an amusing cameo, it's dull and predictable.

Its not a laugh a minute film as you'd expect but its enjoyable enough. If people don't find it amusing then that's not the movie's fault. Wish people would stop being so hard to please.

Well, yes and no. You can't please everyone obviously. Some people find that type of thing funny and some don't. I get slammed at work because I don't find The Hangover funny. I think it's a terrible and unfunny film. Others think it's hilarious, but they're wrong and stupid.

It's just different tastes.

I liked it. really silly and filthy. loads of jokes. not all of them hit but theres some great lines. Cameos are fantastic as well. plus theres a fight scene set to a queen song which i loved. much better than the last few years of his tv shows output and Wahlberg's great in a comedy again.
