Today I learned, via the Football Chiches podcast that two of the 3 lines of punditry from the opening to the seminal football song ‘Three Lions’, spoken by Alan Hansen (‘it’s bad news for the English game’) and Jimmy Hill (we’ll go on getting bad results’) weren’t actually from an England international but rather from the post match analysis of Nottingham Forest’s 5-1 hammering by Bayern in the UEFA Cup in 1996
It was in response to a season where all English teams were dumped out of Europe in some fashion
Manchester United - 1st round of UEFA Cup on away goals to Rotor Volgograd
Liverpool - 2nd round of UEFA Cup 1-0 on aggregate to BrondbyÂ
Leeds - 2nd Round of UEFA Cup 8-3 on aggregate to PSV
Forest - Quarter Finals of UEFA Cup 7-2 on aggregate to Bayern
Blackburn - Bottom of their Champions League group
Everton - 2nd round of Cup Winners Cup 1-0 on aggregate to Feyenoord
Sheffield Wednesday - Group stage of Intertoto Cup finishing 2nd in group
Tottenham - Group stage of Intertoto Cup, finishing 4th and included and 8-0 hiding by Koln
Wimbledon - Group stage of Intertoto Cup, finishing 4th without winning a game
Spurs and Wimbledon were banned from Europe after this for playing weakened sides

The Guardian's Ed Aarons reporting that Favre has changed his mind on the Palace job. At this rate, Everton, Spurs and Palace will win a trophy before they find a manager.Â
Let's not go too extreme there Rick

Whoever that battery is for, I can’t help but feel like it’s going to be a disappointment. That’s probably just be the pessimist in me, but I just can’t seem to get my hopes up about much these days
Seen speculation that it might be Teagen Nox as she’s due back soon from her latest knee injury

Bronson Reed apparently had a try out on Main Event. Let's hope he had his dancing shoes on.
So did Kross, without Scarlett accompanying him

Today I learned that Count Duckula started out as a villain on Danger Mouse. I had seen episodes where he featured, but always assumed they were crossovers, rather than predating the standalone Duckula series.
I also learned that the reboot series features a monkey scientist called Isambard King Kong Brunel, which is brilliant.
Â
The reboot is actually a pretty damn good series by modern kids standards, Alexander Armstrong is decent voicing DM and Stephen Fry is a regular scene stealer as Colonel K

The Impact Youtube channel have put up the 1st Anniversary show for free, the one that had Sting's return to the ring on US soil for the first time since the final Nitro. It also has up the first weekly PPV but not sure if it's a new upload or been there a while

It's always the quiet goody goody ones

If I’m right in thinking this will be the first HITC on tv since the Kane/Mankind match on Raw in August 1998. The only other HITC match to take place at a TV taping was a dark match on Raw in September 2011 between Cena, Punk, Swagger, Del Rio and Ziggler

I've been looking forward to Revelations since it was announced as I'm a huge MOTU fan, particularly the original series and the trailer looks fantastic. We should see some form of first look at Dreamwork's own version of MOTU soon enough as well as the action figure images for that are already online

The fire drill episode always gets me for the fact Dwight gets away with being fired twice in the episode, first for blocking the exits and starting the fire leading to the panic scenes and Stanley having the heart attack then again for mutilating the expensive CPR dummy. This coming after trying to figuratively stab Michael in an earlier episode by trying to take his job as manager on the sly

Gemma Atkinson on Market Street in Manchester this afternoon. The third time I've actually seen her round town but the first time since I was at uni.... a couple of years ago, honest.
Had a big thing for her when she was in Hollyoaks, she was popular for the lad's mags back in the day as well

Miz has been a solid hand for most of his career.Â
Isn't he currently out with his first ever major injury? Pretty astonishing if so considering how long he's been around.
That was the rumour but he didn't appear to have crutches with him when he done the Dirt Sheet segment on Raw last week

The Greeks in 04 were like the Czechs in 96, the underdog team practically everyone got behind. To start then finish the tournament by beating the hosts was something truely phenomenal (and really speaking Portugal shouldn't have been anywhere near the final after the Campbell goal controversy in the quarters)

Pride has always been a big deal for me, though never expressed it publicly. My first job, working in bingo, 2 of my managers were Lesbian, as was my then best friend (even though I was the last person she came out to) and 2 other colleagues were Gay, one of my managers in another bingo club (who sadly passed away a few years back) was a Lesbian and almost every other job in and around that I've worked with LGBTQ people and they are among the best people I've worked with/for. The biggest reason though is closer to home as my cousin had a hard time for years accepting who she was which caused her to have constant battles with her weight, mental health and alcohol, she still needs to take medication for her bipolar but she's now happily settled down with her partner and they have a cute as a button little girl together
I've been proud of the fact that I work for a company that promotes Pride Month every year and the LGBTQ community as a whole, in fact tomorrow is our annual Pride day where we are free to wear any colour within the Pride rainbow. I fully respect that not all people are comfortable with LGBTQ and thats fine as long as they respect why it has to be promoted, it's the bigoted comments that come with any post of its kind by a company, sports team or celebrity that i will never fail to get my head around

Apparently there's more to come with Liv, Keith Lee, Humberto and Garza all rumored for the chop

How's the new commentator? Was he on last night?Â
Thought he sounded great, big improvement from Virk and showed a lot of the big throated passion in certain finishers that Phillips did, like for the finish in the main event

The BSS with the Godfather was a really fun watch, listening to his take on stuff like the Papa Shango/Warrior angle, the planned return for the gimmick in 97 and how Vince would just let him walk away for a period of time if he wasn’t feeling it on the road

Wasn't he also one of the Hindi language ppv commentators?
No, he was a sportscaster for ESPN

Rumours seem to be either Tom Phillips (who shouldn't have been taken off in the first place), Vic Joseph (which may be likely if he isn't on NXT tonight) or another outsider as Virk's replacement. Wouldn't surprise me though if it's none of the above and Cole ends up pulling double duty every week

I'm thinking the IC win Stadium Stampede and then they have the decider on the next PPV as splitting the factions into individual matches (P&P vs FTR, Guevara vs Spears and Hagar vs Wardlow) culminating in Jericho vs MJF where MJF ends the IC for good

Think Mattel have done a cracking job with the WWE MOTU line, arguably moreso than the Hasbro tribute line. That wave with Andre and Sarge also has JYD with I believe Spikor style armour and a Beastman style whip of his trademark dog collar and chain and Bret done like Tri-Clops
