Speaking of Fear Factory and Trigger's broom, saw them on Saturday night and they were excellent. Milo the new singer is basically a Star in Their Eyes version of Burton C. Bell but he sounds great, that's all I needed.

Something which can’t be said of Burton for the last 15+ years

  2. First batch of bands for next years Arctangent have been announced. Some decent names in there that could tempt me

Download announce their first batch tomorrow too. Dino Cazares seemed to self-confirm Fear Factory the other night on social media, but otherwise they’ve kept everything close to their chest

  3. Finally got caught up on the first three episodes a couple of days ago.

The first episode was a lot of scene setting and didn’t yield many laughs from me, but Frasier’s talk with Freddy about missing Marty’s funeral was top draw from both of them, and the tribute to John Mahoney at the end of the credits absolutely did me in.

Jury is still out on David, he hasn’t been properly fleshed out yet, same with Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan. My only frame of reference for Nicholas Lyndhurst is OFAH so I’m pretty indifferent to him. Some stuff lands, some doesn’t.

It isn’t anywhere near the calibre of the original show of course, but there is plenty there to enjoy, and it does “feel like Frasier” rather other sitcoms that came afterwards.

  4. Glad I’m not the only one down on the whole Cole-Strong routine. It’s Roderick Strong for Christ’s sake, a man so forgettable no-one noticed that he was unemployed for 6 months. It’s also something that has Matt Taven involved, that’s an instant -5 stars.

Im not as enamoured with Toni Storm’s recent work as others seem to be, but at least it’s better than basing her entire personality on “owns a ‘Best of Mötley CrĂŒe’ CD”.

They best be keeping Nick Wayne with Christian long term otherwise he’ll be a total afterthought very quickly.

Good match between Omega and Fletcher. Omega is so much better on his own away from the other Elite twerps.

Jay v Penta was decent too, although it annoyed me no end that Jay had to just stand there while Penta pissed about taking his glove off. I’m also of the thinking that if Jay is going for the belt at the PPV, having him get a clean would’ve been just as fine rather than having the interference. Penta is at a decent enough level that a clean loss wouldn’t damage him but that clearly isn’t the story they’re telling though, so that’s on me more than anything.

Nice to see Lance Archer back but for the love of god don’t ever wear that gold gear again. Speaking of gear, Wardlow looks a right shitarse with his white boots.

Point on the previous page about technical glitches at the start of the show. I don't know if that was from a recording or live, but I don't remember anything noticeable from the feed I watched.

I watched on FITE. First through Roku and then checked the FITE phone app to see if it was a Roku issue or not, but the glitching was in the exact same place, so it was their feed more than anything else. Effected everything pretty much upto when Starks & Big Bill came out

Going to be very hard to say no to that Birmingham date even if it is around Download time (unless they suddenly both appear on the lineup the following Saturday/Sunday)

I’d be very surprised if they both ended up playing Download unless you put them on different days, but even then I reckon you’d only get one of them added to the bill if at all.

  7. Saw the opening segment (after a shitload of technical glitching) and yeah, Edge can fuck off with that cheap shit.

Was only interested in the Christian/Bryan match so skipped right to that. As is usually the case whenever these two square off, this was excellent stuff, even if the finish was a little cheap.
I love how Christian has got into the best shape of his entire career and decided to cover it all up with the turtle neck, top level stuff right there.
As someone else mentioned even JR sounded enthusiastic throughout, probably because he doesn’t have to explain away why guys are getting up from 3 or 4 Canadian Destroyers as if nothings happened. Still can’t stand McGuiness though. I know some on here have been coming round to him lately but I don’t think I’ll ever get there with him. Skipping most of the show did mean that I missed his weekly crowbarring of “quid pro quo” though, so that’s another positive

NJPW’s Japanese website gives the attendance as 3,191 (52% of what the first Royal Quest did).

The first of something always draws better due to the nolvelty factor, but announcing the first Royal Quest show 9 months ahead of time rather than 6 weeks ahead of time will have helped as well, certainty for any fans that have to travel/stay over

  9. I wonder what’s changed for them to bring Aldis in now. Could just be that they’ve got some salary space now that Edge is off the books, but you’d think if they were ever interested in him they’d have brought him in years ago.

Even his piped in reaction seemed flat though, but that’s not his fault as about 12 people watch Impact and even less watch NWA. I’d love to know how the production side of that was decided-

“Well we can’t use use ‘hulkamania4.mp3’, they’ll hear the cheer but see that no-ones clapping. ‘GolfClap’ seems a bit too mundane too. Go with ‘MidLevelMurmuring’ and see what happens”

That's only for us, because of BT Sport.

Everywhere else they are put on the day after it's on TV.   Then we have to wait another week.

I was meaning for us, although I wasn’t aware it was next day elsewhere.

I arn’t pissing about with VPNs just to get NXT the next day though

Does it really take that long now? Glad I don't watch it on there then.

It’s been on that long a delay for about 3 years now ever since Gargano & Ciampa had their big big silly Empty Performance Centre Match. It does seem confusing that the Takeover (or whatever they call them now) shows end up being on the network ahead of the go-home episode of TV

I’ve never seen a Saw film, are they any good? I see there’s a new one at cinemas that I might check out

The first is very good, especially when you factor in how it was done on such a tight budget and filmed in under 2 weeks, and gave the genre a real shot in the arm. The majority of mainstream horror for the last near 20 years has been influenced by it in some way.
2 is alright and 3 is passable, but after that it all gets very silly like the majority of franchises. Had they left it as a trilogy, the ending to 3 would be a gruesome but excellent way to go out.
4 thrusts a bit part character into a leading role, 5 treads old ground so you see everything coming a mile off, and 6 has some proper barrel scrapping going on. 7 goes (bad) 3D, which was the style at the time. Jigsaw again reuses ideas from previous films and Spiral was barely a Saw film.
Having said that, I’ll always have a soft spot for Saw. It was the first franchise that I proper got into. Nightmare on Elm Street was already done with, Friday The 13th was onto Jason X by the time I was old enough to go to cinema to see those types of films, Halloween was upto H20 and there had already been 2 (maybe 3) Scream films, so Saw was the first proper original franchise that I got to see from the start and going each year was a good night out with the boys.

    All kits welcome here brother!

I assume they are a bit flashy for RL though?

While still a million years away from other sports, Merch in the sport has come a long way in the last few years. Clubs can’t get by just selling that season’s kit anymore

I can't remember the exact bit I have vague memories of Chris Hero (I think) being on one of those customs/airport security reality programs where he was held up in immigration over questions around his Visa and the rather conspicuous wrestling belt that he was carrying with him.

Border Control Australia I believe it was called

  16. Isn’t the kind of thing that that All Party Palimentary Group (or whatever it was called) should be getting involved with? Or was that set purely to deal with abuse & abuse allegations?

I saw Biohazard at Donnington in 1994.

Why anyone would think it's a new phenomenon is a mystery to me.

Because there’s still people who think Bloodstock should be nothing but bands singing about wizards & elves.

Granted they are an incredibly small minority these days, but every announcement they make the loudest noise about the festival “not being metal anymore”

Is there something wrong with this lad? Is he mentally ill? Just a sad grifter? I don't get it.

A terrible businessman who clearly has the gift of the gab to get people to still take a chance on him

Hatebreed will be fun just to hear the metalheads complain about the kids hardcore pitting.

They should be used to it by now. This will be at least the third time Hatebreed have played the festival, and Jasta did a solo turn one year too, it’s not as if it’s an out of left field booking.

Honestly I’d be fine with them booking a few more hardcore bands. Sick Of It All out in the sunshine would great fun

Opeth’s greatest hits would still be a mega set. They've been doing one song per album in their recent sets so it'd be interesting to see if fans push them towards pre-Watershed stuff. Give me Bleak off Blackwater Park and Godhead's Lament of Still Life please. Although I'd love to see them play Sorceress live.

Oh don’t for a second think that I wouldn’t be down for whatever they go with, Opeth are firmly placed in my top 5 bands. All I was meaning that people shouldn’t be expecting some kind of ultra deep cut to make it in unless they specifically decide to do so. Depends how they go about allowing the vote to happen I suppose.

If I’m going to do a more than one day Festival next year, it’ll more likely be Fortress Festival if I can snag a ticket. The second batch of Early Bird tickets have sold out already.
