Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 11, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted October 11, 2012 This will probably mean nothing to anyone else, but what the hell. Â So, recently I realised that I find something really unnerving about a lot of words that begin with 'Ch'. I can't even figure out why, exactly, but there was a road around where I used to live called Chilworth Avenue that I would never go down because of its name. Completely bizarre but I'm sure there's a reason behind it. I watched a film called The Church and I found myself obsessing over its title while I was watching it (really good film, by the way). Â Anyone else have any of these? They don't have to have any direct connections to anything creepy, or they could be names, but they just put you on edge for some reason or another. Paid Members JNLister Posted October 11, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted October 11, 2012 I'm not sure if this is more or less wince-worthy for men or women, but I can't imagine anyone not being unsettled by "speculum".

Cobra1000
Personally I really hate the word dickensian, it just annoys me and it irritates me when people use it.

Steve Justice
Effectively. My manager uses it 4 times per sentence, both in and out of context. Gets quite irritating after 8 years.

Paid Members seph Posted October 11, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted October 11, 2012 Sputum. Just thinking of the word makes my stomach twitch. Â I'm with you. It makes you wonder why 'Aquascutum' is a good name for a fashion chain as it brings up 'spit floating in water' in my mind.

Smegma Cake
Attitudinal was hammered home by Michael Cole on Raw a while back and it grated on me. Hadn't heard it before, never want to hear it again.
PSF
Whenever a woman tells me we don't need protection because she's been "Sterilized" makes me shudder and imagine a doctor down there with a bottle of Toilet Duck. Not enough to stop me, but she aint getting the standard 40 seconds i'll tell ya.
Paid Members Ronnie Posted October 11, 2012 Paid Members Share Posted October 11, 2012 Nice - such a nondescript word See, I quite like it, because it fits in perfectly where people usually insert the overused 'cool', 'awesome' etc. The fact that it used to mean 'ignorant' before its meaning changed several times over the centuries makes me like it even more. I always had that in mind when a certain poster used to complain that we were mysognists for using a particular expletive outside of its original, biological meaning, waiting to childishly jump on him if he ever described someone as a 'nice person'. Â There must be lots of words that I don't like (aside from the obvious misused ones such as 'random' and 'literally') but they're not springing to mind. There were certain letters that I hated once upon a time such as 'k' and 'w' and it was only after having learnt other languages that I twigged that my favourites didn't contain those letters. It makes me think that there must be some story behind it in my mind.
Wendell Cooley
"loo" always makes me wince, especially when used by men. Also "douche(bag)" when used by British people. Nobody even uses the stupid things in the UK.
