Fair enough, the only evidence I can give you is a link to her adultwork page that gives you a message to say that it's been deleted. Whether or not you believe me isn't the point though.

Did you have proof that the Russian girl was lying before you made your snide remark? If I don't know a great deal about a particular subject or point of conversation, I don't assume that all my pre-conceived notions on the subject are true until I hear concrete evidence to the contrary, because that would make me a prick. Do you see?

Given that this particular Russian girl isn't taking part in this discussion I don't see why an accusation of lying is that bad. Moreover it is a wider point. But anyway, the point is that an Escort may well claim to be doing it for a few months to earn the cash to study. This may, or may not, be true. Given that there is a lot of drug use, criminal connections and illegal migration associated with prostitues it may be that the "student story" is just an oft repeated lie to make her job seem much nicer than the reality.

I am not sure, but I imagine he just said it tongue-in-cheek, much like the "The Stripper Myth" is joked about, by suggesting that girls are only do such things to pay for their education. Maybe I am wrong though.

Its the same as the stripper myth - "they all say they do it to pay for college." It sounds nice and wholesome when put like that. Edited by Dangerous Dave

So basically, you've decided that strippers don't really do it to pay for their educations, this Russian is probably lying, all based on nothing? Tell how you come to be such an expert on prostitues and stippers? You certainly seem to know how little you can trust their motivations.

I'm well aware of all of that. It wasn't the accusation of lying so much as the smug and slightly insulting tone with which you made your point, as if you somehow know better than this poor naive fool who believed her. Pretty much everyone knows that many prostitutes are involved in drugs and other illegal activities - it's so obvious that it barely needs to be made as a point - but when commenting on individual cases that I know nothing about, I prefer not to generalise and it irritates me when people do.

This thread has gone full circle. It started on the first few pages with people saying that these poor girls are only doing such a "job" as they are incredibly desperate, and no one with a choice would ever do it. However, now people are arguing with someone because apparently prostitutes come from all walks of life, and perform the role to acheive academic qualifications. Which is it?

I see what you are saying. But if you read his original post, he actually admits to being " bled dry " by a stripper because he was naive. He then follows up with this comment for a Russian lady that he apparantly believed without question. I wasn't intending to be smug or insulting. Further more, my reply was a single word. You read a lot into that! Edited by Dangerous Dave

Both, obviously. Some prostitutes need to fund their crack habit, some make shitloads of money and use it to buy stuff that they want, some see it as a way to make enough money to do something worthwhile with their lives. Oh yeah, and some actually enjoy it I'm sure. Why does it have to be so clear cut?

Editing someone's quote in that way and giving your thoughts on it using a single word is surely the forum equivalent of scoffing at them and sneering down your nose.

That bit was more relevant to my reason for posting in the thread though. It's partly the tone you took, but mainly the way you tend to make what are often very obvious points, but do so as if they're concepts that the rest of us have failed to grasp. Oh, and the generalising thing. With all that said, we probably shouldn't drag this out any more as the thread has already been derailed a couple of times and some people are getting a bit annoyed about that. Edited by JLM

Well I personally side with the view that someone would have to be incredibly desperate to work the streets to earn money. I just can't get my head around the possibility of someone actually making the conscious choice to have that lifestyle of being picked up and used by strangers purely to make extra money. I could understand going into pornography as a way to use your body to obtain a large income, but prostitution is much harsher. That is just my mindset though, I don't know anyone who's been in this position to get their view on their personal motivations.

It was inteded more as tounge-in-cheek or perhaps ironic.

Well, I took it as a joke but you are right. I fancied someone, they lied a lot, led me on and I spent a lot of money on them until I realised I was being lied to and used. It must have happened to a lot of people. With the Russian girl, I've got no way of knowing whether she was telling the truth. The point I was making is that there are different sides to the sex industry; there are addicts doing it out of desperation, there are trafficked sex slaves but there are also people, especially foreign girls, doing it by choice as a way to make a lot of money quickly.

Whilst I do agree with that I think in some cases the foreign girls are the MOST exploited. Obvious reasons include being here illegally with no friends or family support, not knowing the language, outright fear etc. An example was a "Massage Parlour" in Blackpool named " Thai Paradice." The Evening Gazette did a feature claiming girls were working as prostitues there for wages as low as Edited by Dangerous Dave

Not all work the streets though. Some set themselves up in a nice flat, advertise on a flashy website and charge a premium for their services, as well as selling extras through their websites like videos and pictures. There are those who do it purely because they have no other option and will let you go bareback for another fiver as it'll buy them a bit more heroin, and there are those who do it consciously because they know they can make more money shagging 5 blokes a week in their nice flat than working in an office 9-5.In between the two ends of the spectrum there are plenty of shades of grey.
Bloody good point, and one that I hadn't considered.
